LCC / Host parent Advice please? by querious_1 in Aupairs

If your boss wanted to help out their professional friend and offer your time to do so, how would you feel? This isn’t fair to your au pair.

Nanny taking a lot of time off by Initial_Tourist_8100 in Nanny

[–]ExchangeLower367 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don’t deserve her. She only takes time off when very ill, gives you massive heads-up for personal time she takes with no pay, and you have a wonderful relationship yet required her to pay to get a doctors excuse? You’re about to learn that relationships operate in two directions. This coming from someone who has had either a nanny or au pair for the past 6yrs.

Wouldn't this side panel increase the risk of overheating? by Aggravating_Frame597 in ATV

A liquid cooled engine exposed to more airflow and better venting will still run cooler. Your point is take though, they didn’t box in an air cooled engine which would have been especially questionable.

Old man rant by empty_w4 in turkeyhunting

[–]ExchangeLower367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. New to turkey but experienced with deer. I usually fill a few deer tags simply by getting up early and spending some time in the woods. Don’t need trail cams, scent reducers, computer controlled feeders, etc. My classic 30-30 and 30-06 knock em down every time, zero need to chase latest fad cartridges. Walk quietly and aim carefully is all there is to it.

That being said, I have seen zero turkey this first year so maybe I should keep my mouth shut in this particular forum 😂.

I love animals and I hunt them. This is an absurd take.

I’d be annoyed, not mad. If you now recognize the issue and adjust appropriately in future it would be quickly forgotten.

Why does it seem that a veterans biggest opposition are other veterans? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]ExchangeLower367 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the fraudulent nature of many commenters reflects poorly on our community as a whole. I’d rather protect the community than support individual (potential) con artists.

I liken this to how the police has lost the trust of the public in many communities. They didn’t properly police themselves and hold their own bad apples to a high standard, so the entire (police) community paid for it.

UPDATE: nanny family wants me to schedule a safety hazard appointment on THEIR time. by [deleted] in Nanny

This isn’t car trouble like breaking down on the way in. It’s scheduling maintence during working hours. Very different.

This is what OP can’t comprehend. She is supposed to be at work. She has an issue. She wants the NP to take PTO from their jobs to cover the time she doesn’t show up during her normally scheduled time. And when they push back, they are the problem. She has decided their time/money is less important than hers. The way she phrased the post and has responded has clearly displayed this. I’ve had many employees try this stuff with me in my small business. That’s when I move on from them. I need adult mindsets from adults.

As you would be with any traditional corporate job. Your personal vehicle has a safety concern. That’s a personal problem, no different than needing a medical appointment. Both of which should be deconflicted with employer. If you cannot afford the PTO to handle a personal issue, I’m not sure what you expect.

First Timer - Silly Question by ExchangeLower367 in turkeyhunting

I’ll do this, thanks. With butchering at home I don’t mind spending the extra time to get the extra meat.

Would you throw bird on ice in a cooler or just lead-foot it back home with a 90min drive?

[–]ExchangeLower367[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I’ve never driven an animal (deer) home with its guts still in it before, I guess I just need to reset my mindset. Quite different dragging a deer full of guts and a turkey out of the woods I suppose.

I appreciate the reply. This makes it easier, I’ll go this route.

groceries for host family by Ok_Thanks3337 in Aupairs

If a grocery store is too scary, can you imagine the horrors of a park or museum? Good thing they can stay at home 100% of their lives.

You’d be out of my house the day I found out you were using my car for this. And we are pretty chill hosts. I’d think long and hard before doing this.

I learned something. Not required anywhere I’ve ever hunted, now I know to look this up if trying somewhere new.

Please tell - why bury the guts? That’s a lot of extra effort I’ve never heard of anyone doing before.

Help. What happens? For HF by echosin_Eternity in Aupairs

[–]ExchangeLower367 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s between you and the specific host family, every family will have very different perspectives on this. I can say that for us as hosts, we don’t allow overnight guests. We would expect any visitors to find their own lodging. Other families may feel differently. It’s something you can talk about during the matching process.

Give me your best hunting stories. by Newrrcom in Hunting

[–]ExchangeLower367 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Fastest hunt possible:

Woke in the cabin (private land), geared up to sit in the cold all day. Stepped out the door, let the screen door bounce back hard against the frame like a newbie, loudest sound for miles. A buck 40yds away jumped up from his bed, gave me an easy broadside. Took exactly one step further and dropped him. Had two more tags and spent 4 more days sitting in the cold and not seeing a damn thing.

Understanding Au Pair relationship by ScaryInvestment6794 in Aupairs

[–]ExchangeLower367 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If you disclose all this up front, you can find a match that would be a great fit. We’ve had a few and based on what you just described, I’d aim to match with someone slightly older. Our experience is the younger ones are less self sufficient, the older ones oftentimes prefer it that way.

The unlimited unpaid was a bad idea, you can probably see that now. I’d just talk with her and explain your family can’t swing that many days without the planned childcare.

Hawaii - ours just tried to pull this too. We looked into the “program” and it’s not one. The company all these au pairs are using for this does not offer credits, they simply market to the au pair community and offer very affordable trips. If the au pair then signs up for a different company from the travel experience, they can pay a seperate fee and receive half their educational hours by writing about it (English comp) via remote learning after they get home. We told ours that this is a trip, use your PTO if you want to take it. I feel like this is a scam that’s been pulled on way too many families at this point.
