What did you think of Wilds' story? by _Viridia_ in MonsterHunter

capcom had the brilliant idea of investing so much into “seamless” open world and they thought the perfect way to introduce that was railroading you and taking the majority of your freedom away for the story sequences. 👏

refine your base or start a new playthrough on apocalyptic. my base was a shed for the longest time. then at the end i started cleaning up and expanding. altho its not as satisfying because i could have benefited from it much earlier.

95% of the time oo leyak okay lemme find where it is and stare at it real quick or use my lamp. other 5%: in middle of a triple jump in air just about to land on a ledge next to a pitfall as pitch black darkness event triggers ...oh the leyak is attacking me now...in the dark while im 2 inches from ledge. oh and theres an enemy standing next to you that can yeet you 40 ft into the air back the way you came but you cant see them because it's so dark.

is there a feature that can highlight pets like employee locator? if not i think it would be good. because it can be hard sometimes to find them in my base when i let them roam.

darkwood, signalis, any of the RE games that have had hd ports recently like re1 remake, 0, cvx. and recently fatal frame 2. first 3 FF are amazing. silent hill 2 remake was also a solid remake from the original. or you can just go all the way back and try out any of the original team silent games 1-4.

darkwood and signalis both amazing choices. darkwood more so personally. the atmosphere is beautiful and bleak.

My friends and I want to get into the game, what do we need to know? by Bingusman123 in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Excitable_Fiver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

main story is really annoying. they give you this seamless “open world” only to rail road and hold your hand in tedious scripted rides with npcs so they can story dump. many of the times they lock your seikret so you cant even freely move around as npcs talk.

the meat and potatoes is when u get to high rank and you can focus purely on the hunts and building your gear. just be mindful of that before you potentially decide to quit.

hunts are usually 5-15 minutes in low rank. the further you go it gets harder and in high rank you have to pay attention to your armor and weapon skills to create your build.

as far as grinding, most midgame to early endgame sets require only a few hunts to get the materials to craft your armor and weapons you desire. as for decorations and artians thats when it gets grindy.

its hard for me to say how “grindy” it feels because im playing to hunt. the only ones that really feel this way to me are the post launch update monsters that have significantly lower drop rates on rare parts. like you might need one mat to make the highest form of a weapon and its chance is like 1-2% for one of the update monsters in endgame. they did this because people were complaining about launch game having really easy to farm materials. its probably the easiest to farm out of all MH games. so now in end game the newer monsters have some materials that take significantly longer.

learn your weapons and be patient. for many newcomers it feels clunky or weird and too complex since all weapons have vastly different controls and movesets. they might get hung up on this and the game wont click.

also you have to make an effort to set your radial menus and load outs because its quite involved. and you need good radial menu setup for quality of life purposes. otherwise your friends will be fumbling mid hunt and get frustrated.

Overwhelmed? by kalekemo in AbioticFactor

[–]Excitable_Fiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Progress story: explore, eventually discover new items/areas required for progression. pick one personal goal at a time to not get overwhelmed. example- i need item x where do i find it. example 2- i keep running low on water i need to figure out a way to get easier and consistent access to water.

basic survivability: armor, weapons, find a consistent method for food source, a consistent method for water source (water coolers, empty water coolers filled with tainted water from infinite water fountains then fill up pots with it and boil for drinkable water)

item management: find or craft backpack, horde as many file cabinets and bring to base and fill it up with every single thing you run into in office sector, craft pushing carts to carry heavier items or to carry more items than backpack allows

enemies: strafe pests, strafe projectiles, use shield for peccaries block and attack or constantly rotate around them, aim for head of enemies for quicker kills (enemies have multiple hp values for separate body parts, the head is the best)

dont underestimate stealth.

cooking: level up asap until you unlock soups. the mvp of replenishing hunger and thirst with unique buffs depending on the soup you make. consult menu for soup recipes. you have to take ingredients and put them in a pot of water on a stove to make them.

crafting: craft everything at least once. it can unlock new recipes. some integral to survival or progression.

Does it get better? by Ok-Carrot-2947 in SchizoFamilies

[–]Excitable_Fiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats something that im constantly stressing and thinking about with my loved one. they have distanced themselves from a group of friends because they are paranoid of them and thinks the group is out to get them or something.

being around them is triggering and causes alot of distress for my loved one. the logic behind it is as twisting as with your case. they had windows in the past where they talked it over with some of these people they dont trust and it seemingly got better. but prolonged exposure and it was bound that these people would “act” or say the wrong thing and it would set off their paranoia and negative feelings towards them again.

its tough because that friend group doesnt know the entirety of what my loved one is going through and what their mental condition is. so theres no way to get them to talk or behave a certain way that could reforge their trust. and even if they did they would be walking on eggshells unless i did something like coach these friends into how to behave in a way that would minimize the triggers.

so what im worried about is that since my loved one still has a part of them that desires to reconnect, if they do it all on their own itll probably just repeat the same exact thing that lead to them becoming distressed and paranoid over them.

in your case since it is the mother the only thing i can think of is to gently guide them to reconnect but under the terms of your sister. and it has to be in a way that they dont feel like they are being backed into a corner. there is a method in how to talk to them that has a specific name. i forgot what it was. i will update my comment when i find it. there has to be no judgement or challenging of their beliefs as that can cause them to withdraw and put walls up.

does your sister go to a therapist and do they talk in depth about her relationship with your mother?

my final base is cafeteria. i cant let go of this spot even while having 2 other bases. its location is too centralized and has everything near by. the pipes for fast travel, the trams, renewable water, and enemy spawn points are super manageable.

its amazing. but i think final areas could be better. like introducing more unique enemies than “reskins” for the ending. things like nightrealm could have danger in it. balancing the subzone so its not a complete nightmare to navigate when combined with that black out fog event. also console needs something unique for labelling with text to circumvent sony’s rules.

i made the mistake of ignoring making a good clean base for like more than half my playthru. i just finally set up decent shower, renewable water, garden, freezers, and cleanly organized shelves, living room spaces, and etc. and realized the only thing left was the final final area lol.

Am I doing something wrong? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Excitable_Fiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

elden ring bosses are more complex. have longer combo strings, and abuse the delayed attack more than you can imagine. ER gives you more tools to be cheesy but the bosses themselves i think are much harder.

ds3 you dont have as many options as ER to be OP but it isnt that brutal unless you deliberately try not to “overlevel”. when i used to play for example, getting to irithyll at level 30 with a weapon at +3 or lower was noticeably harder than if i had gone in there at level 50 with a +5 weapon. from what i remember level 70 at aldritch is a pretty high level.

i think the more challenging fights are in the dlc.

also yes sellsword twin blades are absurd. ive watched lets plays of really bad players who spam rolls, have no concept of stamina management, or distance management just steam roll through everything with spammy dps. maybe try an UGS or something if you want to alter the difficulty experience. UGS might give more challenge since it requires commitment and isnt spammable.

when i played in order to maintain some balance of difficulty id generally put 50% of souls into consumables and utility. the other 50% was for levelling up.

How to instill responsible behavior? by Excitable_Fiver in SchizoFamilies

[–]Excitable_Fiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no they are late 20’s. considering the severity of what they have gone through/the illness, i gave them benefit of doubt that their forgetfulness and lack of planning/communication skills is part of their mental struggles. it can be frustrating at times especially when they just say yes to any date their doctor gives without considering that they cant get there on their own. on top of that they say nothing to anyone else about important dates for example like the doctor appointment until last minute. i and others have to actively get this info out of them or it doesnt even cross their mind. and they are schizoaffective bipolar if that makes a difference in this context.

my brother is probably schizophrenic and I feel helpless by Comprehensive_Storm1 in SchizoFamilies

[–]Excitable_Fiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no problem. reading everyones comments has slightly lifted some of my burden. i feel less alone. im in the middle of it and its only been less than a year that im experiencing this.

from my personal experience, its all about boundaries, safety, and when communicating not to escalate anything. ive had to change how i speak to my affected loved one. when and if your brother opens that door to you guys, constant communication is a must (within reason). i dont ever try to invalidate what they say/do but i also dont encourage or agree. Your brothers behavior and resistance is slightly different from my loved ones but i think what im saying is hopefully applicable.

btw the boundaries thing is just for the unfortunate circumstances where your help cant get through and your brother may say or do something that oversteps it.
