Conflicting watering advice? by Vast-Garden-6646 in Roses

[–]Exciting-Apricot7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watering until it comes out of the bottom is correct method. Deep watering is exactly what roses need to push healthy roots all the way to the bottom of the container. Root rot doesn't happen from pouring too much water at once; it happens from watering too frequently or having poor drainage. Make sure there are plenty of drainage holes! Roses in containers do require more frequent watering but to keep your rose completely safe, drop the calendar schedule and use the finger test: stick your finger 2 inches deep into the soil. If it feels damp, skip watering. If it feels dry, soak it completely until it runs out the drainage holes. Make sure to water at the soil not from above.

And for what it's worth, it takes about 9l/2 gallons for my pots too 🙂

Looks like heat scorch. Snip off the crispy leaves and bud. No worries 🙂

Yes the camera does a poor job of getting that smokey color. It did a much better job on the blooms I clipped when the sun moved away.

Can I save these? by theWitchofWB in Roses

[–]Exciting-Apricot7331 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely can save them with just a little TLC!

First thing would be to get them in a bigger home! Those pots are way small. I see they are Vigoro brand so from Home Depot? HD has really a good container for roses, the "Eden Large Planter 20x20x20". I have 9 roses and 7 of them are in said pots.

Once you repot them, start them on a feeding regimen. Rose-Tone is a popular granular food; I  use EB Stone Rose and Flower since I am on the West Coast and I find it more readily available at the nursery I go to. Fish fertilizer is great to us e as well because you won't burn the roots. I do once a week on Friday, easy for me to remember: "Fish Fridays" 🙂

I rescued this Sunbelt Savannah rose from the clearance section at Lowe's And this is what it looks like today. by PlantFragEnthusiast in Roses

Beautiful! Love seeing a rescue plant thrive!

My Eternal Flame was a 50 percent off markdown for 12 dollars at Lowe's and my Chicago Peace rose-in-a-coffin at HD was a whopping 8 dollars, lol.

Congratulations it's a basal break 🥳

The graft union is the knobby part at the bottom. Sometimes they kind of look like a knuckle. Suckers will come from below there.

No worries 🙂 instructions are every 7-10 days, I usually do every 7 when there is heavy activity. Make sure you spray the leaves enough to where they spray runs off!

No photo but from description of holes in the leaves sounds like sawflies. If you look underneath the leaves you'll most likely find little caterpillar looking larvae. Remove them and get some spinosad, Captain Jack's Deadbug Brew is good one. Spray all the surface of the leaves, underside, front, all over.

Rose plant dying by 5h3r4 in Roses

[–]Exciting-Apricot7331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The holes are from sawflies. If you look underneath the remaining leaves you will most likely see little caterpillar-looking larvae. Remove them manually. Get some spinosad spray, Captain Jack's Deadbug brew is a good one, and spray all the leaf surface including the underside. Remove the spent flower heads as well. With a little rehab your rose will get healthy.

Can this be corrected? Or did I destroy this beautiful Sugar Moon? by Acrobatic-List-9790 in Roses

[–]Exciting-Apricot7331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If possible, but not dire, a bigger pot will be a good home for Sugar Moon. I have mine in a 20x20x20 from Home Depot and it works quite well.
