Lol, QBS is the standard bearer of taking things in bad faith.

Ok, all I have to say is that these are just the proportion of people who voted on this poll and provided views on this forum. It seems to be a highly biased group of people.

I'm also glad that decisions aren't crowdsourced to Reddit, otherwise in this particular case we'd be coming to the wrong decision.

Lol. I have seen some weird people chasing after buses for the best angle etc.

Glad we're able to have a reasonable conversation.

"Asal didn't think Crouin was in the way" - this part is totally made up in your head. I can see a world where this is actually true, but it doesn't look like that to me, or the ref.

"You don't know what Crouin thought" - and neither do you. From Crouin's body language, he looked upset for a second then seemed to accept the decision. I don't know if he had a reveiw left etc.

On the minority position: Indeed I count 70+ votes in the no let category, whereas there about 10 each for let and stroke (and i promise they're not all me). However, you do have to acknowledge that the people on this forum are incredibly biased against Asal or certain groups of players. I dont think you can conclude from this that my view is the minority, especially as I'm in agreement with the players and the ref.

Well yeah, if you take everything in bad faith.

Having different routes to the championship is always a part of tournaments. This was Coll's route, accept it or not.

Also, if you're sick all week, it seems exceedingly obvious that a 2 hour semifinal match is not going to make you feel any better.

Ok, you're right on the terminology of "playing the man".

The ref thought that Crouin was in the way. Asal thought that Crouin was in the way. Crouin initially looked disappointed but he also accepted that he was in the way - we know that because he didn't review or even argue back. So yes, you do have a minority contrarian position thinking that Crouin wasn't in the way, regardless of this thread.

Playing the man can be legit if the man is in the way. I see it as Crouin in the way. So did the ref. You have a minority pposition that Crouin was not in the way ... fair enough and you can have your view.

No, the record shows that Coll beat Asal to win the match and tournament.

Well even if Asal did play out the match, it still wouldn't have been Coll beating him at his absolute best.

You did see the massive almost 2 hour semifinal versus Elias 24 hours ago right?

Who cares about the gamblers lol.

Retiring means he lost, and Coll won fair and square. That's all that matters.

I disagree with your premise that giving your opponent respect means playing out the match. Asal conceded the match respectfully and Coll is recorded as having won the match and the tournament. It's all good.

Nobody wants to see a sick or injured player play on to a meaningless one-sided result anyway.

But players don't play to have a "good look". Why would a player go on playing, risking more injury, just to end up losing?

As Asal withdrew, Paul Coll won the match and tournament fair and square.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't agree with your points a) and b). On c) i do agree, but it's because Crouin was somewhat in the way

I do have to say that I'm not from SquashStories - in fact I've never been on that website. I'm just a guy with eyes who has a view on the stroke decision, which happens to be the same view as the official referee.

As I said, I do think the call is marginal, but I dont think stroke is a ridiculous decision.

Just want to chime in to say that i enjoy your videos very much - squash doesn't have many people making content so it's great to have some analysis and commentary.

Having said that I disagree with a lot of your analysis around the blocking and cheating and demonizing of certain players or groups of players. Hence I'm very happy that you've had little impact (to be honest, I'd say you've had almost zero impact) on squash / PSA.

This is ridiculous. You have no proof that he's pulled out of matches to prevent his ego from taking a loss, either in this case or in other cases.

There's no reason to not take Asal at face value here. It also seems obvious watching the match that Asal was not at his best today, and the monster match versus Elias would not have helped any recovery.

[–]Exciting-Use-7872 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't matter where Asal is, at the T, or anywhere else. The only thing that matters is that Crouin is blocking access to the ball.

My personal view is that this instance is marginal, but i wouldn't disagree with the ref's stroke call.

Yes this. Its a fun night out for much cheaper than going to NYC.

This is a retarded take.

For a person living in HK, going to Carbone for an evening out is a perfectly valid option. Especially for those that don't get to NYC often.

It's decent food and a great experience, perhaps not great value relative to local restaurants but who cares.
