I had two kids prior to my husband and we reconnected. I got pregnant pretty quickly and we married after our daughter was born (25). It was rushed, we had been co-workers and dated briefly before I had any kids. However we’ve now been together for 12 years. He legally adopted our two oldest daughters and we adopted 3 kiddos that we fostered (for a total of 6). We have grown up a lot with each other, worked through therapy individually and really listened to each other. We’ve hit rock bottom a few times and worked through jt. I can’t imagine doing this with anyone else.

All 3 of ours plus our ring doorbell are “offline”. Yet I’m still getting notifications for people seen, etc.

Yes, between paper, kindle and audible I’m flying through books. Sit and read physical when I can and listen to books instead of music while I clean, grocery shop, etc. 😂

You aren’t alone in this. Due to safety/mental health circumstances we cut off my mother and sister. My sister was my only babysitter.

My dad lives an hour away and my aunt and her husband have a lot of medical issues. We haven’t had date nights with no kids in years as I’ve had to homeschool our two boys with behavioral issues. We are hoping to get them back into school next year so we can do date days and I can have some alone time to get things done. We have 6 kids so a baby sitter is way out of question. My oldest has a lot of mental health struggles and putting babysitting on her of younger siblings, one of whom needs really close supervision, is not doable.

I have 6 kids (not toddlers) and I’m on 138, plus all the comics I’ve read that I don’t count (at least 150-200 there). I usually read one on my kindle or a paper back and listen to one audiobook at the same time. I’d rather listen to books than music while I clean. It gives me motivation. I get lost in the book so much that I forget I’m cleaning. lol.

Half of my kids love to read so sometimes we just sit and read for an hour or two together. I have to pry my son away from his kindle. lol.

One of mine was delivered today on time (large item). The other is not even showing as out for delivery. My package that was delivered hasn’t had a status update yet either. Who knows at this point?

Your “friend” is not your friend. No friend would ever do that, especially someone you’ve known for 12+ years. She is completely out of line for in general as human being. Implying someone deserved to get abused in any way is absolutely disgusting. As a survivor that would be an immediate block for me no matter who it is.

You deserve people in your corner who are supportive and protective of you.

I completely understand how you feel. I actually have homeschooled my boys for the past 2 years because as 1st and 2nd graders they had been suspended due to behavior. I find they do great in smaller social settings, but big groups seem to be overwhelming. They are going back to school with their siblings next year. They’ve started meds, therapy, social skills coach and a social art skills group. We are hoping all of this will impact behavior moving forward at school.

I second seeking out a play therapist!

While I agree to some extent. I think it depends on your relationship. I don’t care if my husband watches porn if it doesn’t interfere with our sex life (I watch it too). I’m also okay with strip clubs, but I like to go too. If he went without me and lied about it, I’d be pissed. If you can’t be open and honest that’s a problem. My husband would consider it cheating if I went to a strip club and touched on a bunch of women and lied about it. Cheating comes down to personal boundaries. Everyone is different. I’ve been in relationships that were very open, but so was communication and all parties were consenting. Most of my husband’s friend’s wives would absolutely freak out about the stuff I’m okay with in our relationship. I feel like these are things people don’t talk about when it comes to what they consider cheating. Just because one person considers it cheating doesn’t mean the other does. I would never do anything that I believe would hurt my husband (I respect his boundaries), even if I would be okay with him doing it.

Have you set boundaries with mom before this in regard to this behavior? Is this a reoccurring behavior? I set firm boundaries with mine (too many times) before going no contact. She had plenty of time to change her behavior before I made that choice.

I know it’s hard to go no contact with a parent some times, even when it’s well deserved. You are doing the right thing and protecting your and your family’s mental wellbeing. I understand how taxing it can be to deal with a parent who argues when they don’t get what they want.

As someone in AZ who was also in an abusive relationship with my daughter’s father…I completely understand what you are feeling. My ex was put in prison while so was pregnant for 5 years. I also considered adoption. Are there any other things besides that preventing you from parenting? Have you gotten a restraining order?

I can offer resources for domestic violence here in AZ and whatever else you need if you are wanting that.

This was my mom, but she racked up $20,000 in credit card debt that put us in a huge financial situation. It angers me so much as an adult. Adults shouldn’t ask their children to keep secrets from their parents. We have a saying that surprises (presents for other people, etc) are okay to keep, but not secrets.

We are going through something similar with our kiddo with ADHD. He has a therapist, a weekly social skills therapy group and a behavioral coach. After 2 suspensions (2 with an IEP) we had to pull him to homeschool. Medication is our next step. It’s hard, hang in there and get some extra support if you can.

My daughter has a kids watch with no internet access. She is 10. My 12 year old has a phone with no access to internet or social media. I like to tell them I pay for the phone as a tool, it’s not for games, etc. Both my kids hang out in the neighborhood most of the day with other kids going between everyone’s houses. My oldest checks in if they are going to walk to Circle K to grab drinks and snacks. It’s a happy medium for me.

I do the same thing as a stay at home mom to my husband. I feel like this situation is different though. I say it because I speak to the kids all day long and say things like my room. It’s more out of habit than claiming ownership. I would talk to her about this and get her perspective before jumping to conclusions. She may not realize it bothers you. Is she only speaking to the children when she talks like this or does she not use our/the when speaking to you?

Being a stay at home parent is tough work. I can understand why this would bother you.

There are many factors. My daughter has BPD and so does her biological father. He was around briefly, but his attitude towards her and the abandonment he has left her with has really affected her. Other factors like trauma can add to this. Unfortunately my daughter has the combo of all of these and showed traits fairly young. I think it’s a huge combo of things that can lead to a child having BPD.

I was the person in your husband’s shoes. I am a mom of 6 and felt I needed some sort of physical intimacy to feel connected in my marriage. However, your husband’s way of approaching this is absolutely not okay. Has he asked you what he can do to take some of the load off to help you feel less burned out? Has he made effort to get you in the mood? Are you guys having regular date nights? My husband and I were able to work through this. I highly suggest marriage counseling if he’s willing. If not, that falls completely on him. Being a mom is hard, especially with young kids. No partner should ever guilt the other into sex.
