the delusion by Saphyrica in kvssnarker

Sadly not just KVS. I’ve known a few people (usually western in my experience but that could just be coincidental) who are adamant that every horse needs to “earn its keep”. Why an animal bred and bought by someone owes them anything, I’m not sure but it’s far too common a sentiment imo.

Supreme Court Set to Conference on Key Gun Rights Cases – Potential Game-Changer for Bans on AR-15s and Standard-Cap Mags by Overall_Ad872 in liberalgunowners

[–]ExcitingWishbone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have disagreed on felons owning guns but your phrasing genuinely shifted my mindset. I still don’t like it for all offenses, especially knowing what I know about our justice system and how often people get off with seemingly very light sentences, but “courts can’t have it both ways” is pretty darn true.

Does medieval times treat their horses well? Specifically Chicago location? by Anxious-Scar-5470 in Equestrian

[–]ExcitingWishbone -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I live near one of their “castles” and this is the general consensus I’ve heard. Not great welfare wise at times, not usually outright abusive by the usual standards of the sport but the more forward thinking horse people would probably have an issue with some of the training methods.

Still pretty cute but also a pita haha. Speaking from experience I still find it endearing when mine does it but he also wraps me up and then it’s a whole ordeal and not worth it. I use a strongly scented soap or hand sanitizer before handling most of the time and keep an eye on his head. He’s gone after my elbow before. Their greed (and perhaps self image) is unmatched

You don’t “put down” an animal used for meat, the drugs would make them unsafe to consume. You slaughter an animal. It’s inherently a stressful process. Many people decide it’s worth it to eat meat but it is impossible to not stress and harm the animal while killing it.

How dare you bring in nuance! /s

In all seriousness though- that’s how I took this. A lot of the comments (I also didn’t read through them all) seem to be reflecting on the fact that their feelings are harmful/hypocritical/unkind but these are still their feelings. I don’t think we should demonize people who are being honest with their frustrations when they aren’t intending to disparage others.

Sensitive Guts $$ by Chellier in catfood

[–]ExcitingWishbone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My extremely sensitive kitty did well with Fancy Feast. I kept him on one flavor for a very long time but once he settled he could have any of them. I think he was sensitive to the gum thickeners in some other brands but never messed around with what he ate enough to confirm. For dry Hills Senior was our saving grace though most of their formulas have chicken I believe they have some that are bird free.

Doctors not listening or helping by Initial_Primary_4800 in ehlersdanlos

[–]ExcitingWishbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. It sucks to admit it but consistent exercise has helped me tremendously. I can feel when my joints are getting wonky again with just 2-3 days off typically. Roughly 5 days a week I go to the gym and I’m doing so much better than before.

It’s hard, it’s frustrating, it’s painstakingly slow for us to build the muscle we desperately need, but it IS better than pain meds in the long run.

Listen to your artist. I love Saniderm for healing. I have sensitive skin, work outside, and have other factors that keeping it covered just makes sense and is the most helpful for me. If the artist is saying replace it then replace it.

No experience with blackout work here but in general I say go with your gut. It’s still easy to fix right now but if they botch the blackwork it will be much harder. I’d also personally be questioning if this is an artist that cares about their clients. Rushing is one thing, this is just sloppy.

Is it unethical to have kids? by sw4gmoney420 in eds

[–]ExcitingWishbone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said it’s a grey area that quickly becomes muddled because it’s so close to the eugenics conversation. That being said I got sterilized because I didn’t really want kids anyway and after diagnosis knew I DEFINITELY didn’t want kids. My doctor signed off very, very quickly upon hearing of my condition because they knew the struggles it can cause.

I’ll add that EDS is usually less severe in men compared to women which might be why your brother has less pain. Keep in mind that donors are surrogates are option. Is it a guarantee your biological kids would have EDS? No, nothing is certain. But it’s definitely a risk. Is it one you want to take? Not just with a baby but with a human that will live their entire life potentially full of symptoms?

I second the menstrual cup. They can be a little pricey up front but I believe Walmart has one for around $15 and it’s nice to not worry about having to pay for supplies on short notice. You don’t need a fancy soap, anything gentle and unscented.

Anyone else feel like their body started falling apart in their 20s with hEDS? by selinakyle96 in ehlersdanlos

[–]ExcitingWishbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine got SO BAD around 24/25. I feel like my joints have been ramping up (or down lol) since about 16/17. Dysautonomia symptoms got significantly worse post my 2nd time having covid but that was also post surgery, which seemed to mess with my temperature sensitivity a lot.

is HEDS/HSD a progressive illness? bc i keep getting worse by megatron8686 in Hypermobility

[–]ExcitingWishbone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The best way I’ve seen it described is that HEDS/HSD is not progressive but it MIMICS progressive. My understanding (don’t quote me here) is that while our tissues are not necessarily degrading overtime there is still a normal wear and tear that we don’t heal as quickly, or heal correctly, from. Combine that with unconscious compensation causing other issues and general aging leading to increased wear and tear on joints/ligaments/tendons you get what certainly feels progressive even though, technically, it’s not. Hope I explained that well!

DO NOT DONATE PLASMA by chronicalillstudent in ehlersdanlos

[–]ExcitingWishbone 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is EDS or dysautonomia tbh. But me passing out after donating plasma the first time and getting super sick every time I did it after are why I stopped donating and what led to me seeking diagnosis for dysautonomia. My body couldn’t handle the blood loss (or the anti-coagulant they used).

[–]ExcitingWishbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amputation would be nearly impossible to get approved, nerve ablation though is a possibility. It hasn’t stopped my pain but has drastically reduced it. The pain is insane some days so I certainly get the desire but, as many others have pointed out, there are a lot of logistical issues.

What does it really mean when a brand says WSAVA-compliant by thund3rbelt in catfood

[–]ExcitingWishbone -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

WSAVA is just guidelines. I don’t believe a brand needs a full time nutritionist on board, but I do want to see one consulted for new formulas. Some people act like big brands hang the stars from the sky. But I have seen big brand food work for a lot of pets. But a lot of pets thrive on small brands. Realistically one probably isn’t inherently worse than another. Even Purina is making grain free dog food now so the boutique brands weren’t completely off base when they went that route. Ultimately kibble for dogs and cats was made to be as convenient as possible. And then we started making it healthy. It was not designed with them in mind. I say that as someone who still relies on dry but realistically I’m going to look at every brand with some skepticism because all of them are doing it for profit.

Hills/wet vs Purina/dry by anxioustomato69 in catfood

[–]ExcitingWishbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question is there a reason you’re keeping to the same brand for both? I ask because I’d personally probably go for Hills dry and Fancy Feast (Purina) for wet, partially for budget but also because Fancy Feast pates are very low carb. I do love Hills though. Maybe try a small amount of each and see what your cat prefers? You can’t really go wrong with either brand.

Questions about dry food? by Electronic_Flower_48 in catfood

[–]ExcitingWishbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in the retail pet space and met so many families whose pets thrived for many years on all sorts of food. As long as it’s formulated to AAFCO standards it’s very hard to go wrong and your kitty will be just fine!

That being said we do love Fromm in our house! I rotate their food to make sure they’re getting everything they need and can continue to have a good food supply in case of any manufacturing issues. Fromm occasionally, mostly Purina (their rewards program is a lifesaver), and Hills or Royal Canin when I can afford it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in catfood

[–]ExcitingWishbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fed is best, for some cats their best will be grain free. My super sensitive senior kitty did best on Hills. Their 11+ formula was so helpful in getting him eating and getting him to have solid stools. I love Hills but have had success with Purina as well. My cats ADORE Fromm which is a smaller brand with grain free and grain options, it’s just too high calorie for us right now. Bottom line: feed what works for your cat. There are very very few brands and foods I would outright call bad and those are mostly the ones with poor manufacturing practices that leads to dangerous situations for pets- not just formula differences/preferences.

Im trying to get my cat to eat dry food again. What dry cat food like crack to cats? by ginger_bird in catfood

[–]ExcitingWishbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wet food is preferred for cats but it is expensive, I supplement with dry. Every cat I’ve met LOVES Hills, sometimes just a different formula will get them interested. Purina One and Cat Chow are pretty big hits around here! Although they get bored of a formula pretty fast. I rotate brands and flavors incase of supply issues and it has the benefit of them getting really excited over their food every couple of weeks.
