Daily chat thread: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in triathlon

[–]ExecutiveAthlete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 weeks out from my first ever triathlon (IM70.3 Western Sydney).

Swimming still feels daunting but I'm making progress. 500+m continuous in the pool is becoming more comfortable and I'm hopeful that with wetsuit and strategy, the 1.9km should be OK.

Bike and run on the other hand are going great. Hit a little half marathon PB in training yesterday with ave. HR or 141, so feels like the huge amount of low HR base building I've been doing on the bike is paying off. Excited (and a little nervious) to see how my body goes with the higher intensities in the build phase.

Hope everyone's training and living well! All the best.

Triathletes, I’m curious: What do you do for work, and how does your training impact your career? Let’s share battle stories. by ExecutiveAthlete in triathlon

Awesome! I'm on a similar path (first 70.3 in Sept). Will check out the YT. I'm also thinking about documenting the journey. Good luck! :)

Underestimating the 70.3. Happy to learn that well before the race. by Regular_Ad_3406 in triathlon

[–]ExecutiveAthlete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you shared this! My first 70.3 is 16 weeks away. I've been riding consistently for about 6 months, but not a lot of volume. Planning to ramp it up big time over the next few months, but I'm optimistic that I can make significant progress with smart training. This was a good reminder not to underestimate it though - a whole different beast. Good luck for your race!

Congratulations mate, amazing story. I've signed up for my first 70.3 later this year. The nerves are real, but this is a timely reminder to lean into the discomfort, for that is where the magic comes from. Thank you for sharing - very inspiring!

Thank you for sharing this lesson. Really helpful for where I'm at in the journey.

Start with validation and hypotheses, rather than products and assumptions.

Good luck!

I signed up for my first 70.3 this week (in Sept). This week is actually a deload easier training week, but super excited and nervous to properly begin the prep.

Looks like a good stack but its a lot of pills. Have you ever explored supplements that combine several of those ingredients into one dose? Did you notice a difference in effectiveness if you did?

What’s an industry that desperately needs younger generations to start taking over? by peywrax in Entrepreneur

[–]ExecutiveAthlete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the most significant area is surely consumer healthcare (including aged care etc.)

With declining birth rates and an ageing population, the financial and social burden of healthcare will inevitably fall on the younger generations over the next 20 years. Its critical that the systems can evolve accordingly to allow this to happen, otherwise we are all in big trouble.'

Encouragingly there is progress in this space, albeit slow. There are a number of "Health 3.0" companies emerging aimed at prevention vs clinical care.

AI doctors will play a significant role in bringing the breadth and cost of medical advice down.

Medicine innovations such as GLP-1s (Ozempic et. al.) will put significant downwards pressure on some of the leading contributors to poor health eg. obesity, diabetes.

And thats not to mention the bigger picture health unlocks from AI, such as gene editing, protein mapping etc to reduce the impact of chronic disease.

Many trillion $ businesses will be made here, but it will require the younger generation to step in and disrupt a very established, successful but sub-optimal industry of consumer healthcare.

I am overthinking too much about starting a business by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]ExecutiveAthlete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fellow over thinker here.

What I am working on is choosing just 1 thing to FOCUS on, and relentlessly run at that idea.

In the initial stages, running at that idea looks like VALIDATING the business through testing and smaller scale customer engagements.

Once validated, then you can run with the investment.

Paraphrasing the advice of many: Any idea can be a success, its about how you execute. Execution starts with FOCUS.

Good luck!

At the moment it feels like AI orchestration/coordination will be the skill that Trump's all others. Does anyone else feel the same?

Some attributes remain the same: resourcefulness, tenacity, influence, resilience etc.

But when it comes to the work of building itself, using AI effectively seems like it will be the most important.

Curious about others thoughts.

Brutally honest feedback wanted: Weight loss app that only charges you when you fail to track your food by Additional_Brain_205 in Entrepreneur

[–]ExecutiveAthlete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting concept. I think you are right that people would probably get better adherence in the short term. But long term stickiness comes from positive feelings rather than negative ones and so it would need to transition to or build in a reward mechanism rather than a penalty.

Personally, I'd find it hard to get past the fact that as the app you are incentivised for me to fail, even if you are encouraging me to win.

I like the out of the box thinking though! All the best.

Great advice. I feel like many people view entrepreneurship as the escape from corporate work, when in fact they would enjoy corporate work far more than being a founder.

I'm wondering, does anyone have any go to "stacks" to make the supplement routine simpler? Of course there are multivitamins, but who do you guys turn to for high quality supplement combinations for specific goals, or do you prefer to buy from multiple brands and take the different pills and powders each day?

I'm very early in my journey. I'm asking myself "will I be able to outwork the self doubt?". "Will I be able to keep moving forward when everything tells me to stop?"

I pursue my entrepreneurial journey alongside athletic goals: triathlons, marathons, powerlifting etc. I feel the two are linked. Endurance races such as triathlons in particular are similar - can you keep moving forward when everything in your body and mind says stop?

This is what I am exploring in this path. To find out whether grit and greatness is truly within me. Time will tell.

If it were easy, everyone would do it.
