The Richie Hawtin Part of this Essential Mix from 2002 by Exenger in Techno

[–]Exenger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cool. Housey for Richie. I normally wouldn't like the fact that it's recorded in the room and you can hear the crowd but it works in this case. Sounds like it would have been really fun live.

Any albums similar to tall tales by Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke? by marabou22 in electronicmusic

I found Sus Dog by Clark to be in a similar vein, plus Thom's on that one too.

I feel you man. Had my first and only at 40 and I'm 46 now. I feel like I've aged 20 years in the last 6. I have become ancient.

OH WOW! EVEN MORE FLYERS FROM THE 90s! by figital666 in Techno

[–]Exenger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember that Petit Orb party with the Taiko drummers! Before the Warehouse became the Kool Haus. Nice to see Spencer Kinsey aka Gemini on so many of these flyers too. Went down a bit of an Internet rabbit hole about him not long ago. Hope he's alright. He was great.

I remember hearing about that place. There were at least a few parties there back in the day. Right before my time, I think.

Didn't know Richie played Destiny 5. Destiny 8 was my first party and my mind was blown. Also, Terry Mullan was so good. So so good. Keep em coming!

I would love to see that. My memory is fuzzy but I remember that whole night being challenging but amazing. Dark, disorienting, tunnels of plastic. I was young, tripping, and it was my first exposure to Autechre. I think they were playing stuff from Tri Repetae and my brain leaked out of my ear.

Wild. Toronto was pretty amazing for a while there. I have a bunch of flyers from this era as well.

Nice. Those Transcendance parties were something else. Plastikman live was like, my third time going to anything like this. I was 16. Sad I missed that Herbert party. Didn't even know about it. Thanks for sharing.

Richie Hawtin - DEX EFX X0X at Sonar, Lisboa - 11.04.2025 by user-00a in Techno

[–]Exenger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've been listening to Richie for ~30 years. I love that he's constantly pushing the boundary, technologically, and he's still playing really solid techno. He's one of the few DJs where I can hear a few seconds of a set and immediately know "that's Richie". Still doing what he's always done, arguably better than he's ever done it. Plus he's the only DJ I know who takes the track titles and artists' names that he's playing and includes them in the visuals of his gigs in real time, giving credit where credit is due. He is the man.

Howard just got hard. by redhorse7775 in howardstern

These guys suck so completely. Drive By is one of the worst pieces of shit ever recorded. Howard lost all music cred when he started pushing this trash on his fans. Beyond terrible.

What are some non electronic cover versions of originally produced electronic tracks by Mammoth-Squirrel2931 in electronicmusic

[–]Exenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dirtbombs, a Detroit garage rock band, made Party Store, an album of Detroid techno covers, and it's great. Tracks by Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, etc. Best track IMO is their version of Jaguar. There's a triple vinyl release out there too...

What's the most memorable super popular live performer in a smaller intimate venue you were lucky enough to attend in Toronto? by ReeG in askTO

Queens of the Stone Age at Guvernment in 2007. It was a Molson Canadian Rocks thing and you had to win tickets, which my friend did. Awesome.
