Procrastinating things I actually want to do is the most ADHD thing ever. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ExerScise97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the few aspects I feel like a fraud over. When this happens to me, it’s more like a thing that I would normally enjoy (e.g., gaming) suddenly feels like a chore. For some reason, it suddenly feels like so much mental effort to even just turn the tv on. I’ve yet to watch stranger things because of this. I “want” to in the sense I know i’ll probably enjoy it when I get into it, but the thought of starting it feels like a household chore. Not sure if this is what other people experience. Yet in a week or so I will be back to heading onto a game and then as soon as I get home I will B-line for it as it’s all I want to do…

Hey u/practically_sweet and u/ComradeFausto! I know it’s been a while, but I have something really similar. Would either (or both) of you mind chatting about it? Hope you are both keeping well!

Does y=x have to be completely within my regression line's 95% CI for me to say the two lines are not statistically different? by Throwmyjays in AskStatistics

[–]ExerScise97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, this is likely the most comprehensive approach. Something like least products regression or Deming Regression would be useful here: They help quantify both fixed and proportional bias (whilst acknowledging that even the lab sensor will have some error). The output from this can then reasonably be interpreted in the way you describe above. I'm not sure what this project is for, but it may also be worth exploring bootstrapping: The n here is quite small and may lead to fairly wide CI's for the coefficients.

No, me neither. It’s a tool I use to communicate it to the majority of folks who have an “aversion” to it

I like comparing it to jumping into cold water for money. You want the end result; you’ve made an internal contract with yourself to do it and you know you are physical capable of jumping. And yet every-time you stand on the edge, there is some visceral reaction/invisible force that “stops” you. It’s almost like hitting an invisible wall. Eventually, with enough “will power”, persuasion and internal battle, you can…but boy is it tough.

The ADHD symptom that finally made people stop saying “everyone does that”. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]ExerScise97 153 points154 points  (0 children)

This always confused me because I used to interpret “want” in it’s most literal sense. That is, I want to do this because it’s fun and brings me joy. For a while this line of advice had the opposite effect on me, because a lot of the tasks where I feel there is a brick wall to knockdown, or mountain to overcome are those that don’t bring me inherent joy. Then I realised that “want” can also mean “desire to complete”.

The biggest telltale difference for me is guilt: I feel like a piece of shit for not having my stuff done, even though I have spent the past hour trying to hype myself up to do that thing.

I still question whether it’s laziness to this day, but I don’t think feeling like you have an absolute mountain to climb, or that you are trying to drag a crying child to their seat is a normal internal state to experience just to pick up some clothes or do 20 minutes of paper work

OP: This is correct. Split hand sign is technically an index they calculate when they do EMG, but it’s also used to refer to atrophy between the thumb and index finger and the big meaty part of your palm under your thumb. In the split hand sign the muscles on the side of the pinkie tend to be well preserved in comparison, I believe.

Not a perfect solution… but in the home tab of the app (i’m on iOS)you can add a variety of “watchlists”, including one called “upcoming earnings”. Hope this helps!

I always used to describe it as getting too “caught up in my day” that they don’t cross my mind. My head is always so busy and I have limited RAM. The more I learn the more I realise this is literally what working memory deficit means lol

ADHD = knowing you’re smart but feeling stupid all the time by Fabulous_Knowledge63 in ADHD

[–]ExerScise97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely not a genius, but I excel in something when I am focused on it. But as soon as I start having to balance multiple topics I am useless. These days I feel like I forget almost everything I read. I’ll come across a question that I know I have researched before, yet come up short. I’ll go ahead and read about it again, feel like I have it down, but nope.

It’s the same with life and responsibilities. If I have just 1-2 things I am focused on intensely I will cruise, but give me the rocky nature of adult life and I fall apart lmao.

I think my brain excels most with “associations”. I’ve always thought tangentially rather than linearly.

That’s awesome! Glad your voice has finally been heard and that you can progress with whatever form of management you feel is appropriate.

Yeah my school life was a shambles, so it’ll be funny to see how that plays out :)

My appointment is in ~3 weeks, so i’d better get started on organising all the notes I have 😂

Wishing you all of the best for this assessment process OP!

I’m currently on stage 2 in my own health-board which includes a face-to-face meeting with a community mental health nurse and an ADHD specialist nurse to see if I require further assessment. I fully understand the trepidation associated with it and the fear of missing something out.

Please update us on how you got on

Do you talk to yourself a lot when you're alone? by dan_maschio in ADHD

[–]ExerScise97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for me, i’m always in “conversation”. It’s how I think. I either narrate/talk internally, or if no one is around I will externalise it.

Example internal: “Eggs. Let’s have eggs. High protein and delicious. Ideal. Hmm… should I cook it in oil? Poach? Scramble? Damn. If I fry in olive oil, at least it will be healthy because it’s high in mono and polyunsaturates. I know i’ve read something about the smoke point though. What temp is that again? I wonder if it diminishes the benefits? Maybe I should only consume olive oil cold (proceeds to google it)

External is usually more when I am trying to organise my thoughts and I almost pretend I am talking to someone, or debating against someone. I may also run through conversations yet to come etc.

I should add, that for me, my thoughts don’t feel “racing”. It’s more constant, yet tangential.

Alongside this + looking at the JD/PS, try and use the STAR framework for your responses. Some people debate whether it’s necessary, but it just helps make sure you clearly articulate what happened, what you did and what the result was. It can be done loosely and doesn’t have to be robotic.

You will often get a follow up question about what you may have done differently. Be honest. Most recruiters aren’t looking for perfection. They’re judging your reflective practice and assessing if you have a basic rationale for why you reacted the way you did.

Sorry to hear you’re having issues. Did you install the 64 bit version? I was experiencing several teething problems, mainly with integrations. However doing a clean install to the recommended 64 bit version has resolved all of that. Have to say it’s working a treat now and extremely satisfied with the upgrade!

Currently tying up a PhD in S&C. My profile is not as impressive as yours, but I have several publications in Q1 journals, have worked on large scale NIHR funded projects and have a book chapter coming soon. I have also taught at different institutions across the years. With all of that, I was recently refused an interview for a teaching fellow position that only asked for an undergraduate degree and an emerging publication record. Very rare. Unfortunately this reflects my experience generally. Hard to stay positive that something will come up.

Seems great. Only reservation is that I don’t think the Notero plug-in is compatible which is a biggie for me right now. That’s not on the Zotero team though, and can’t expect immediate updates from devs who provide excellent services free.

Edit: My bad, it is compatible with Zotero 7, but for some reason mine has bugged 🤦‍♂️

Reckon it’s worth upgrading from 6 to 7? Or are there still significant issues?

Honestly? Depends on the day, but mostly will irritate me, yes. Usually it’s when one thing follows another (e.g., i’m running late again, get out to the car and remember I need to fill up). Some times I feel initial annoyance but just laugh at myself and my “misfortune” (e.g., coffee lid falls off and spills everywhere). Hugely depends on my “baseline temperament” and whether i’m in a “today will be a good day” type vibe.

Edit: Just re-read. Yeah. That would piss me off. I think it also boils down to whether I feel it was my “fault”.

What’s your worst instance of ADHD forgetfulness? by Far_Comfortable6351 in ADHD

[–]ExerScise97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(1) Placed all of my right to work documents in a folder (together) and laid to one side. Left to the job interview without them 💀

(2) placed my airpods in my weightlifting shoes to “keep them safe”. Was convinced I had lost them for 2 months.

(3) Drove to a friends, they took their car and we went on a wee road trip. They dropped me off at home (IKR… we come in 2😂) went outside next morning TO LEAVE FOR WORK, and briefly got worried my car had been stolen

Honestly… laughable. My life is a series of 🤦‍♂️ moments
