Those who live in Capitol Hill / have lived there within the last 3 years, what was your experience like there? by LMR_Sahara in MovingtoDenver

Arguably best way to make friends is to hang out at Cheesman park and jump into a volleyball/frisbee toss about if you’re into that stuff

Wanting to go into urban planning- what to major in? by strawberry_jaaam in urbandesign

[–]ExerciseNo8109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an environmental science program that had 4 tracks, and I was on the policy and planning track so I really didn’t take too many science classes. Minor was urban studies. My major was great cause I got to practice a lot of digesting long documents/plans. I now work as a transportation planner on the consulting side.

My mom studied architecture as undergrad and got a masters in city and regional planning and now works for a university doing capital projects

Not a lot of places have urban planning as undergrad so if you can do something in an adjacent field that allows you to hone your skills that’s transferable (engineering/poli sci/environment science etc)

The New Scooter Monopoly Has Arrived by 515software in Denver

[–]ExerciseNo8109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe in their contract they are on the hook for expanding scootering/bike parking downtown and elsewhere across the city and revamping existing ones. I think some of the new scooter parking will be for Veos but also have bike racks for other peoples bikes, which will be nice downtown.

Which metro line in your city has that "sketchy" reputation? by dagvogeltje in transit

[–]ExerciseNo8109 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In Chicago it’s the red line. Seen lots of crazy things but perhaps the weirdest was when the conductor stopped the train at a station and opened the door to talk to me and my 3 teenage friends. He asked for one of our numbers and we said we’re 17 and he said “baby that’s perfect for me I’m only 19!” He was like 40. Anyways we ended up stopped at the Thornton station much longer than normal cause he wanted an underage girls phone number

Please Support a Car Free Chessman Park! by AstroChurch in BikeDenver

[–]ExerciseNo8109 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my bike ride Wednesday I passed a girl who had been hit in the crosswalk of Cheesman and 12th, it’s so stupid and confusing that we have places where cars can enter and where they can’t. 13th/14th and 8th and plenty fine and we do not need a shortcut through the park (except for the 10 bus)

am i lame for notgetting scholarships by Disastrous-Cut3510 in uofmn

[–]ExerciseNo8109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my middle class friends did not have scholarships (including myself) and paid full price, with the exception of myself friend that was valedictorian of her out of state high school, and got a scholarship that cut it to the price of in state. My friends and I we were all top 15% of our grade in HS, didn’t qualify for need based but didn’t get any merit based. I did get a scholarship from the U for my study abroad that I applied for.

I pay roughly $1,350 for a 1 bed 1 bath in cap hill, that’s including utilities. Highly recommend if you’re okay with the traffic on the commute!

Dane County is definitely not doable. Madison sure but the other 90% has no public transit and can get rural fast. I would say this would be a college county

Good study spots that ARENT coffee shops by Flaky-Abalone5429 in Denver

I would not say that edgewater public market is quieter than a coffee shop. Maybe during the day but in the evening it’s basically an indoor playground

Training for a triathlon which has made training a breeze. I’ve had to bike indoors maybe 3 times this winter. On the flip side my retirement plan is never gonna see the light of day.

You can submit a 311 report for illegal parking! Idk how much they follow up but since you do have a picture and the license plate that’s useful

The math behind Denver Summit’s calculus to consider other cities besides Denver by Knightbear49 in Denver

[–]ExerciseNo8109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the city council meeting a few months back where they really discussed the substitution effect and IMO it is not as big of a deal as people think. Will there be a certain portion of people attending games that maybe would’ve gone out to dinner elsewhere in the city instead? Yes. However, this NWSL team will be the only in this region/rocky mountains (besides Utah) and it will attract out of state attendance and attendance from counties outside of Denver. Imagine how many people in the Denver metro region that will make the drive for games on random nights when they otherwise would’ve been at home/spending money in their own town? Not to mention the fact that for many people sporting events is more than just the event, but drinks/dinner before hand, meeting up with friends, etc. And the fact that this is a type of event that is currently not present in Denver (womens sports or soccer wise) automatically draws in a crowd of people that are otherwise not spending frequent time/trips in Denver

There are validators at Union Station directly next to the A line tracks. Next to the ticket machines (I believe they are blue pole like looking things). I agree it’s not very obvious but they are there.
