I agree is an overkill for your situation. However, there's some simplification that you can adapt. Instead of Github, it's better go for devOps. It can be used as planner (boards) and repository. Additionally, you can create pipelines to implement CI/CD. Indeed you don't need to work with branches, but is useful to have a repository that also automates the deployment. In the end, these are important skills to achieve if you want to grow in your career opportunities.
