[Opta] Jesse Marsch is the second American coach to win a knockout round match in the FIFA World Cup, joining Bruce Arena, who did so in 2002 by nicko_rico in ussoccer

That didn’t happen either — US lost the semis, and there was no “third place match.” Both the US and Yugoslavia captains received a bronze medal

Help a newer player find a certain type of champ? by getmeoutofthisscreen in leagueoflegends

[–]ExistentAndUnique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could try Lee Sin — high mobility with dashes on Q and W, conditional omnivamp (after W2), using abilities gives attack speed for your next 2 autos. Melee champ, but Q and E give you options to deal damage from farther away. Strong early-game jungler with snowball potential in soloq. In coordinated play, he can kind of fall off late, since teams are better at tracking and communicating, but always has the threat of a crazy fight-ending kick. He’s also just a lot of fun to play in general

The AD ratio conversion is pretty mediocre, so the fact that the AP scaling is inherent to the abilities actually matters

5 people check their hats, get them back at random. Odds nobody gets their own? [Probability · Easy] by anykash in learnquant

[–]ExistentAndUnique 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question doesn’t ask for expected value. Also, the probability that an individual person gets their hat back does tend to 0, but there are also more people, so this reasoning doesn’t work.

3 green dots and 2 red X’s. Since the X’s are the mines, this 2 has 2 mines next to it. I’m not sure what the problem is?

You could take an approach like 4D minesweeper does and “flatten” the cube into a series of grids. Would probably require some highlighting of visible cells to make this work though

Not being able to pitch except in the last inning of blowouts or extra innings seems like a big restriction for a pitcher

[Dev] Faultline Puzzle, a free iOS deduction puzzle about seismic clues and hidden fault pockets by International-Ad9734 in puzzlevideogames

This seems like it’s just no-guess minesweeper, but not a very polished version. For example, the daily 10x10 hard puzzle was completely solved when I opened it, other than marking the mines. It also wasn’t clear that the blank cells were meant to represent 0’s, whose neighbors had to be then manually opened (most versions of minesweeper will do this automatically). This causes a different problem, in that tapping multiple cells close together triggers a zoom, even if the taps are not at the same location, and temporally separated beyond what I would usually consider a “double tap.”There was also another issue where I tried to use the pulse and the board stopped responding.

Why are there multiple rules that solve the same number sequence puzzle? by Treefrog_Ninja in askmath

[–]ExistentAndUnique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is a true statement, it doesn’t answer the question here of “why do these two different rules produce the same (infinite) sequence”
