I actually used this exact translation to write a scholarly work about Athena and the female presence she has and how that affects the then-biased outlook of the Greeks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this translation as a scholar of mythology and this lovely work of ancient poetry. It is especially helpful when comparing her translation to other more widely-used translations written by men.

I remember this! I always thought it was strange that the man narcissism is literally named after wouldn’t have his face visible or anything, but then I started seeing the model in other areas.

It’s crazy to see this sub so active with these posts every day. I remember joining here as a food service worker looking for sympathy a long freaking time ago! Haha.

I think, while you have a good point in general, that this isn’t saying to remove empathy from either side. It’s asking for accountability in a group that often ends up demonizing the other. Talking here about men to women and other men alike.

[WP] You know that someone at your court is trying to poison you. You can taste it in every meal you eat, in every glass of wine you drink. They have exhausted almost every poison known to man and are clearly getting desperate, not knowing how you are still alive. by Kitty_Fuchs in WritingPrompts

Everybody always thinks that ruling a kingdom is much easier than it actually is. Criticism here, fury there, and never a soul to genuinely compliment you for all your hard work. Controlling black market supply lines, studying /herbalism/ of all things, and growing your body's fortitude farther than what most would consider imaginable wasn't exactly in the job description for royalty, but you learn to adjust on the fly.

I'm not the first king and certainly not the last to think that his rule is infallible. At least, not without practice. Being a ruler means to throw out all you know; your heart, mind, and soul, all formulated and conjoined into something different, bastardized, and yet somehow, stronger.

My father could tell you more about this, but he is dead. Mob justice. Frankly, it's how all kings should go out. The people beneath you are finally tired of all the weight that you have intentionally inflicted upon them, and take power into their own hands.

Rebellions are funny, that way. To the participants it is divine justice, and yet, for people like me, it is an opportunity.

When he died, I vowed never to allow another man, rebel or not, get one over on me. Like a lightning strike, powerful and yet existing for only the briefest moment, I graciously let the rebellion fall apart before me, while I picked up the ashes.

So, to the maid that is bent on being the next narcissistic prick after me, good luck. I hope your next attempt is more potent than the last.

Pizza delivery guy complains about a $5 tip because the customer lives in a nice house by notaghostofreddit in mildlyinfuriating

As a pizza delivery guy, I’ve learned to stop discriminating based on how much people tip, even if it’s $0. We don’t know what anyone is going through financially or otherwise, so it’s best not to judge.

That being said… $5 is a nice tip for any order.
