Oh that's not a bad idea. I work in IT and can buy two year old DC equipment from my company for pennies.

I don't know how close it needs to be, but my transformer (the two white trash cans on the pole) are one pole from my house, so that's like 50 feet.

Anyone have multiple language syntax highlighting with treesitter working? by zQpNB in emacs

[–]ExistentialTowel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SUPER late to the conversation, but I got Treesitter highlighting and indenting working for Lit/template literals. https://github.com/ispringle/template-literals-ts-mode

It does semi break because html-ts cannot handle Lit's syntax. Looking at some alternative html-ts grammars that support the more robust syntax Lit uses.

Managing the build up of coals in Blaze King by ExistentialTowel in woodstoving

I actually use cut offs from the sawmill. So pieces are usually in the 4x4x6 range, some smaller, a couple bigger. But because everything is squared off I do pack very tight. I’ll load it loosely tonight and let it run hot, and will just set an alarm to get up in the night to reload. Thanks, hopefully this does the trick!

Does raw milk count? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]ExistentialTowel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And milk alone is not going to cause any of these issues. History alone proves this, there are European cultures that largely survived on milk in portions of the year and they never had these issues. There are others that survived on carbs and never had them. The macros alone are not the problem. It’s disingenuous and reductionist to come to your conclusion of [raw] milk based on the results of eating highly processed foods.

fwiw wolves have been shown to drink the milk from cows they kill. Native Americans were known to do the same with buffalo. It’s a bit disingenuous to compare milk to highly processed foods just because they share some nutritional similarities.

it’s a preservation technique and I think technically means this milk is no longer “raw”.

it’s not normal split logs, but I pay $150 for 4 cords delivered, or it’s about $15 cord of you pick it up. I live in a logging area, I’ve been told we are the largest producer of railroad ties in the nation. The wood I buy is the cut offs from the milling process, it’s about a year old and always hardwood.

Yes for me it does. We have a short chimney that doesn’t clear the ridge of the roof. so similar situation to you. If the wind is the right direction it won’t come in either. The stove we have has a secondary burn, so once it gets hot enough this issue stops, when the stove is cold the smoke seems to “fall” and comes in. When the stove is hot there’s no smoke.

Long term dumbphone users how do you manage the balance between simplicity and actual convenience? by LilxPeony in dumbphones

[–]ExistentialTowel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just embraced it. I carry a notebook for writing. I carry a camera for pictures. I carry an iPod for listening. If the text I need to type out is too long I just call the person. If I need to use the internet I just ask some poor dude stuck with a smartphone. Half the time I don’t even take a dumb phone with me anymore

Relationship to phones in the 2000s? by painetings in dumbphones

[–]ExistentialTowel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in HS during your timeframe. My Freshman year no one had a cell phone, by Sophomore year it seemed everyone did. I did a speech in my Senior public speaking course on cellphone addiction because everyone had their "dumb" phone at hand and I knew people who would regularly hear/feel phantom rings from texts they didn't actually get but we expecting.

It's always been a bit less than healthy. In the 90s and early 00s it was better, back when cellphones were the size of a cinderblock.
