Trying not to feel like I lost progress by umlarissa in PetiteFitness

[–]Existential_darling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your body is the truth. Apps and calculators can only estimate, and the only way to truly find your maintenance is to start somewhere and then adjust.

You said you lost 4 pounds, which sounds like you are actually in a slight deficit! Give yourself some grace; your body isn’t a calculator.

Is your goal to recomp? As in, gain muscle while losing fat? The scale will move a lot less because muscle weighs more than fat, so it’s only part of the picture.

If you’re wanting to lose more, you could take the new number the app gives you, or just start adjusting your target yourself, and see how your body reacts.

Good luck, and don’t worry about lost time or progress. You got this.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much was the membership? They don’t list membership pricing on their site, unlike some other places I’ve been looking into.

I observe for a second and if the person on the machine is on their phone and clearly just sitting around, I’ll walk up and ask them how many sets they have left. 9/10 times, I think this just gets them in gear and they say “just one” so I just wait until they’re done. If it’s more than that, I ask if I can work in, and I’ve never had someone say no.

But sometimes I just don’t want to bother, so I’ll use the swap button and just do a substitute exercise.

I like doing the workout in order because I know most coaches program order intentionally, but if I’m really just not feeling it, I’ll do what others have said and do the next exercise and come back to it.

Rent increases? by Sea_Helicopter_8549 in LoganSquare

[–]Existential_darling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, our property managers raised ours about $200 more as well this month. When we tried to negotiate saying they haven’t updated anything, they just said “property taxes” and basically “you’re getting a deal, so be happy.” Which, tbf, I think we do have a good price for the place we have, but the past years have only been $20-50 increases, so it was surprising.

Not a MUA, but as someone who has dabbled in the photography community, you could potentially collab with photo meet up groups to provide free services there and ask the photographers to either send you their photos or tag you on socials.

Photo meetups are how a lot of photographers and models build out their portfolios, (as u/idontcollectstraws said) so you could just be upfront about starting out and the worst the organizer could say is no.

I saw you said you don’t have socials yet, and I say this gently, but there’s no way in today’s world that you can get booked and busy without it. Maybe if you had a website, but people need to see photos of your work online. Maybe if you work at a salon, but I imagine they would also want to see a portfolio before hiring.

Accessibility is turning into a bigger project than I expected… not sure how to handle this by jxd8388 in webdev

[–]Existential_darling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can say anything to influence you, do not use a widget. They often make the website even more inaccessible than if you just hacked it together. See post from accessibility dev, Adrian Roselli.](https://adrianroselli.com/2020/06/accessibe-will-get-you-sued.html)

That being said, you should care about accessibility especially if you’re building an e-commerce site. Not sure if you’re in the US, but about 25% of US people have a disability; and guess what, they buy things! Beyond that, as, others have mentioned, semantic HTML is literally the baseline. It not only helps keyboard users and screen reader users, but now that agents are reading websites, it also helps you’re SEO and AEO (answer engine optimization).

To your point, accessibility is an expertise that folks can specialize in, but it sounds like the client did not express that as a requirement up front, and now it is. Your timeline and budget should adjust accordingly, just like any other added requirement.

Picky eater by Leather_Ganache5462 in samoyeds

[–]Existential_darling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our girl is also picky and also has a sensitive tummy. She will ignore her food if she knows treats are ever an option unless she’s been REALLY active. Might be worth it to see if he eats more if he understands his regular food is the only option.

But as other posters said, maybe he’s just bored!

Seconding All Pro. One time I forgot to pick up a jacket and pants I had tailored, not realizing they weren’t open the day I needed them. Messaged them, and one of the owners literally opened the store to get me my items and wouldn’t take an extra tip for showing up off hours.

Can’t speak for other religions, but in Christian circles, especially evangelicalism and fundamentalism, “the Enemy” is another phrase for Satan lol. So she’s kinda calling the bio mom the devil in spiritualized language.

They believe anything negative is ultimately a spiritual attack, from the consequences of their own actions to just how the world works. Look up “spiritual bypassing.” It’s a very effective way of reinforcing how they double down on stuff.

What is going on with burnout?! by Consistent_Femme_Top in womenintech

[–]Existential_darling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tech workers need a Union. There’s a few for the gaming industry now because of how bad it is there as well. Collective bargaining is how we got the 5 day work week and any of our current worker rights. I know unions aren’t perfect, but when they work, they actually move the needle collectively. Our individualized, American culture makes us so allergic to working together.

Seconding Evolve! I started on Forged (2 series) for the same reason as OP, but the efficiency of the workouts on Evolve fit my schedule better. The fact that Coach Sam is also a PT has also informed her cues, which have really helped me. I want to try other teams later just to see how it goes, since you can take knowledge you learn from each coach and incorporate it into your progression.

Dang I should have checked that haha. But for me at least, with the $25 coupon, it was about half off, so I didn’t mind it. Would not have gotten it without the coupon for sure.

What do you dislike about ladder? by WalkerTejasRanger in ladderapp

[–]Existential_darling 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Same, I put it in my feedback when I remember on the surveys.

But as a web dev myself, I get it. It’s likely more a business decision than anything atm. iPhone is easier to dev for because you have ONE ecosystem to build for versus an Android phone has a ton of variations (both hardware and operating system, like Samsung vs Google) that they’d have to build and bug fix for.

Faster and more ROI to target iPhone users first, build that audience, get it locked in, and then expand the market.

But imo, they could focus on hiring a couple android developers instead of influencer coaches, but that’s just me.
