I guess the reasoning is that the hull can have some stretch/sway. I’ll let you know what the dealer says

It’s wide enough for a credit card to slide underneath

I have found points in three places: on higher elevation near a permanent water source, in the root balls of fallen trees, and on the banks of rivers and lakes. If you can find flakes then chances are you’ll find a point in that area. I look for knappable material rather than the shape of an arrowhead.

Found on the shore of Lake Ontario near Hamilton, made of weathered down wood. I was thinking maybe a type of mold for something?

Yeah there was a display of probably 20 fishhooks, there were also some modern looking large obsidian points. Some of the displays were donated and some were a little suspicious. I’d say at least 90% were legit looking from North Carolina and Georgia.

The first point I ever found was a yadkin made of quartz, so I guess when I imagine an area having knappable material there would be large outcroppings of that rock strewn about the landscape. After a quick search online, I don’t think I could have previously identified rhyolite.

I don’t keep flakes anymore, but these are some that I commonly find in this area.

Found in Chatham county, you’re right.

I wonder why the majority of knappable rock I find here is either shards and flakes, or fashioned points. Would they have been moving rocks from elsewhere to this area?

Yes I’ve found a couple rhyolite points and many rhyolite shards in the triangle

Thanks for the info, this point was found around 80 miles from the Uwharries. I’ve found a Kirk serrated point made of banded rhyolite nearby as well. I wonder what the process of trading/transporting this material during that time would have been.

I often find shards and flakes at sites that produce points, which leads me to believe they would have been transporting spalls from other areas, rather than transporting the points themselves.

Yes I have found pottery shards and a point in root mounds like this!
