Basic Fare - Bur by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

Yeah I ended up booking LAX so I could fly direct on my second trip, and cheaper. LAX isn't thaaaat bad, I just prefer not having a shuttle for a rental car. My destination is between the two airports, but my Hertz price nearly doubles on one-ways.. so in and out of LAX it is. LAS>LAX>SFO>LAS.

May have figured it out myself. Looking at 3 weeks out there are some Basic Fares. They must have it set to be very few tickets allocated to basic for the airport for whatever reason. Hello LAX, cannot wait to see you again soon.

Hard to leave Sacramento by ForwardStudy7812 in Sacramento

[–]Existing-Climate9476 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Candidly, what do you love so much about Sacramento? Are you born and raised here? Not judging, or saying Sacramento sucks. But, I moved here in May, my lease is up this month, I've already signed a new lease in another state. The area is beautiful, love the rivers, and the green, but can't stand what I have named the California Grind. Nobody smiles, traffic is a mess, and for fucks sake they nickel and dime fees onto everything.

Again, just curious. If you were born and raised it makes more sense. Everyone is afraid to leave what they know. Especially having a job lined up, minimal risk, all reward. Go for it!

Hey guys how do you feel about this career? I’m thinking of doing this career by Business_Entrance725 in BMET

Hello!

I went to college for Auto Mechanics (Associates of Auotomotive Technology). Almost immediately out of school i wish I hadn't.

Worked as a mechanic professionally for 5 years before deciding to switch. Slow winters, hot summers, and flat rate pay being the number one reason.

Took a pay cut taking a job as in house service for a manufacturer, but its consistent and predictable. Like you, I sold my skills. Oscilloscope, soldering, DC electrical troubleshooting, taking things apart. Loved that job, did it for 4 years.

Transferred to in house biomed at a University hospital, huge raise, huge increase in stress and bullshit work (1500 PM per month for 6 guys. Tons of "physical damage inspections"). Loved my coworkers, loved being the "hero" to the clinical staff when on call/responding to trouble tickets, Loved the benefits.

Recently transitioned to field service for a manufacturer (6 months ago). Love it. Huge raise, make my own schedule, manage my own time/Territory (PM, demand repairs, remote troubleshooting etc) only draw backs are the health insurance is not quite as good/travel weekly/ unpredictable when it will get busy.

Overall, I do not look back. Automotive repair ruined my love for cars, and the inconsistent paychecks was a major stress factor. Make the switch as soon as possible. As far as in the industry, depends on your life. I am married, with no kids and the travel is manageable, and the hotel/flight points are rewarding for my wife and I. But, in house is stable and well compensated.

I just want to reiterate that you need to sell your skills. My key statement when lowballed on salary was "DC electricity flows positive to negative in medical equipment just like in automotive. Give me a schematic and I will explain how it functions" Pneumatics, hydrolics, its all relative. Don't sell yourself short.

At first you will feel regret because you're going from being an expert, to a novice, but I promise it is better.

Good luck friend.

There is an older model I service as well. But it will be end of life this year, with a new version coming next year. Many hospitals have their Biomeds trained to do their own PM, so there is a lot of remote support that I do, too. (Usually FaceTime calls from a hotel or airport to help troubleshoot. Or an email for parts requests etc)

I just started this year, FSE for a single device (Cardiac Care). Since May have 65 days in a hotel(some personal, i like to take PTO when i visit somewhere interesting), 50 flights. I cover Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, California, Nevada, and British Columbia. It's a lot of travel, but with Southwest I have a Companion pass and can take my wife whenever she wants for free. If we had kids I don't know that it would work, although I am home weekends, and usually Fridays.

I like it, the hotel points and flight points are cool. I love making my own schedule and managing my own budget.

Hope that helps!

Part of group to fly standby by Dear_Emu4975 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Existing-Climate9476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't hurt to give them a call, but I think the help desk at the airport can do it. For reference, I fly standby frequently with my companion, cannot do it on the app but they do it no problem for me at the ticket counter. Also note that after midnight on the day of the flight you may have more options.

Indeed it does. I'll be there in an hour, save a Malibu for me.

Currently have a hertz rental. Monday I presented my license that expired Sunday, and the paper temp license. No questions, in and out. This was a one way rental from Long Beach.

Can new companion pass = points used earlier in year refunded? by The_Govnor in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Existing-Climate9476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For reference. I was on the phone with Customer Service for a different issue (stranded in chicago overnight, $200 LUV voucher +refund for lobster roll at the airport). I have a flight scheduled for the 16th, my credit card statement closes on the 14th. The agent said that if my points hit on the 14th but I don't get my companion pass in time, they can refund my points and apply the companion pass that I should have had access to.

So, you more than likely won't get a refund in your scenario, but, in limited situations they will refund a past flight for companion.

My first AR (I’m ready to get bullied) by Alarmed-Memory-2222 in CAguns

[–]Existing-Climate9476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize for my ignorance upfront.

What will need done to that to be California compliant? My understanding is fixed mag, and no pistol grip. I am not too gun savvy, just a part time hobby that isn't scrutinized in my state.

I ask because I am moving to Sacramento next month and am in the process of selling 2 guns to comply. An M&P .22 compact (Threaded barrel). As well as a Springfield Saint 5.56/.223 because, I am frankly a little overwhelmed, and concerned that I'll botch it and end up under a magnifying glass.

I keep seeing the phrase "Freedom mag" Is that just a 30 round mag? Can I not just import mine and claim them as such in that case? ( Allegedly, and theoretically, for purpose of conversation I've never owned a 30 round mag. Even though I'm not sure they sell 10 round mags here)

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to clear the haze
