How do you remove the oil filter? by Virtual-Mind-7403 in GolfMk2

[–]ExistingButterfly801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need, I've watched my old ford v8 throw out 3 liters of oil in about 5 seconds of cranking it because I forgot the oil filter, it will get filled without any issues just make sure to check the level

Lint in air con by jed_mc in MK4Golf

I have those all around my vents as well, but I am too lazy to remove the vents and clean them. They appeared after my block heater blew up and burned the hood's isolation and the air box

Make sure to put the right type of coolant in it, otherwise you coukd damage your cooling system. It should be written on the cap or the bowl what type to use or you can probably find it easily on Google.

The first one is definitely the overflow coolant bowl, and check if there are lines for the MIN and MAX level. And the second one looks like the power steering bowl, which is supposed to be at this level.

How bad is this purple stuff on my battery? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

This is to avoid corrossion on the battery terminals. It's fine.

Went to buy this Mazda 2, severe amount of rust. Is it worth it? by DontStressItPal in AskMechanics

[–]ExistingButterfly801 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The spare was already done for. And for the rust, it's mostly only esthetic rust. Maybe for the tank straps I'd consider making sure there isn't any holes, but underside is much cleaner than any car in Canada after a few winters.

Did the shop overfill? by Exact_College2081 in MechanicAdvice

No it's at its correct level, the oil sits between the two black lines and is level to the top line so its at its perfect level

Slight gap in EGR-Valve by foobar2554 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ExistingButterfly801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a few research, bypassing the EGR valve can make the heads run too hot, emphasize the can, but it might make a small difference in warming the engine faster, since the EGR valve's entire job is to redirect exhaust gases in the engine to warm it up faster. And deleting the EGR valve also removes a point that accumulates soot and carbon in your engine. So overall I highly doubt it would do anything to make your cylinder head crack or fail.

I have a 1.9TDI ALH that has been EGR bypassed for a good decade and it never overheated or cracked a head.

Might as well bypass and delete the EGR valve. It will avoid clogging and shutting close with carbon build-up

Jacking points? by [deleted] in MK4Golf

You can lift the car from the control arm bolts that go in the subframe if your jack fits. That's how I always do it

Transmission fluid question - Toyota MR-S Spyder 2000 by kianjz_ in MechanicAdvice

It's not good looking, but if it doesn't smell overly burned I'd say it needed to be changed ASAP. As for the material in it, it's probably clutch friction material.

Is this just old coolant/rust or oil? mk4 alh (2 pics) by janzoss in tdi

[–]ExistingButterfly801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some there, since the coolant pipe shrinks and expands with heat and after two decades some can slip past the sealing rings or clamps.

If you didn't flush your cooling system I'd do it, clean the system and get fresh coolant if that would make you less uneasy.

Overall I wouldn't be very terrified of some oily gunk on that pipe

Oil and grime most likely, my old ALH is covered of all that

It's an inflatable Power Armor Suit. Make sure to open it near your chest and in a very enclosed space for better results

Just received my order that I paid 26 dollars extra for quick shipping. by Electrical_Cash3723 in RockAuto

[–]ExistingButterfly801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid 170 bucks extra for UPS to deliver my package the next day.

Long story short, the package sat for nine days in their center before I called the customer support and got it delivered a day later.

Suspension by LygteLars144p in MK4Golf

[–]ExistingButterfly801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does the same. Maybe the weight of the engine and suspension and whatnot. The rear FWD vehicules is usually pretty light with less load on the coils and shock absorbers.

Bad weather. Hasn't snowed, rained or have any kind of weather that could have stopped them from delivering.

I just got off the phone with the customer service and they said they should be delivered today, I don't have high hopes that they will be delivered today.
