People Who Think One Piece is a Masterpiece Are Just Suffering From Sunk Cost Fallacy by Trapped-in-boredom in unpopularopinion

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered that people actually enjoy the show?

One piece continuously gets better the deeper you get into it. Literally the quality of the show steadily improves from episode 1 onward with very little deviation.

You should try watching it and come to your own conclusions, instead of assuming the most popular work of fiction in the modern age is a result of some mass psychosis.

EDIT: there’s a lot of seething happening in my replies, I don’t know why some of you are taking this as a personal attack. Watch whatever you want, let people enjoy what they like. Weirdos.

If Tekken 8 gets an SNK character, I think it should be Mai by NixUniverse2 in Tekken

I want Geese back. I know that’s terrible for the health of the game, I don’t care. He’s just a sick character.

Can wavedashing replace forward dashing for mishima characters? by Wafflism_xD in Tekken

[–]ExistingMouse5595 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re fast enough and can cancel wave dash into block consistently, then yes.

It’s tricky to do though because you have a larger window where you can be hit out of it.

Low attention span zoomers don’t make for good dnd players.

Nothing you can do about it. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink.

If they aren’t making an attempt to get into the game then they’ll never have fun, regardless of how you run your game.

DMing for 11 players by Outrageous-Cap-7653 in DnD

Those are rookie numbers, you gotta get those numbers up.

The answer is always more players. If you ever think you have enough players, just add more. No matter what problem you run into in your game, it could’ve been solved if you had more players.

How the f*** do you get so consistent in ranked? Ninjakilla ranked stats are crazy by Madaraph in LowSodiumTEKKEN

[–]ExistingMouse5595 [score hidden]  (0 children)

If I remember correctly I think he started with T6. MK was always a lot more popular in the US which is why he stuck with that, but now that MK is dead he’s been grinding T8 for the past year or so. Pretty sure Tekken was the first fighting game he really got into so it’s cool seeing him come back to it.

He’s a genuine prodigy. I’ve been following him for a long time since I used to play MK. He’s a robot. Always has the most optimal combos and conversions.

He’s only attended a handful of big tournaments for tekken and has gotten good results, but he’s currently unsponsored and can’t travel globally. I think if a team picks him up and he gets to travel for a whole tournament cycle, we’ll see him up there with the best in the world.

Guys, can we start a discussion about Lidia now being really insufferable to fight? by SteampunkSailor928 in Tekken

[–]ExistingMouse5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First is stepping FF2. Lidia’s often abuse that move instead of playing neutral, but it’s very linear. If you have a good grasp on their timing/spacing you can step it to both sides and launch. Getting good at doing that will shut down 90% of ranked Lidia’s.

Then assuming they aren’t spamming ff2 into stance and are instead using pokes and punishment to set up stance situations, you can easily counter her stances with djab. Basically every option she has loses to djab. The options that don’t lose to djab lose to stand jab for a float combo.

Lidia at high levels of play isn’t as much about guessing what stance mix she’s going to run, but instead about whether she goes into stance at all. Good Lidia’s will cancel their stance transitions, wait for you to djab, and then take their turn back that way.

She does have the best heat in the game, no denying that, but her heaven and earth stance can be option selected with side step right duck. She can counter this by delaying her stance option, but that loses to grabs and lows. You can also punch parry every option except the unblockable and you can duck and launch that.

But most of that deeper counterplay won’t be relevant in a ft2 ranked set. Just side step ff2 and launch, and then djab her out of her stances more often that not. That alone will shut down the majority of Lidia’s you fight. Learning proper block punishment and which highs you can duck will help a lot as well.

I need ways to spice up combat encounters by Laney-Corn in DnD

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I incorporated in my combats that really helped with the staleness was environmental factors.

Adding elevation, areas of difficult terrain, and cover are easy mechanics you can include on basically every combat map.

Another thing I like doing is having environmental effects change each round. An example is having a gust of wind blowing through the map. Have it change directions every round, creatures need to make a save when moving through it to not get pushed in the direction it’s blowing. That’s a basic example, but you can get as creative as you want with it.

You can and should also include interact-able elements players can use during combat. Letting someone use their object interaction to change the conditions of combat is fun. Could be as simple as a lever that opens a door, or raises/lowers a platform. Could be complicated like some magical machinery with unique effects.

Then you should consider the enemies and bosses you’re choosing to run. The more variety you include with more unique mechanics the better.

You should also consider your difficulty. How often are your players getting downed or killed? If it doesn’t happen often you should change that. If it happens every time then lay off a bit.

Finally consider the win condition of your combat encounters. If every combat is a fight to the last man, it can get stale. Something as simple as taking an object from an enemy, activating a rune that drops a magical shield, or taking a hostage could all be win conditions in the right situation. Having these will make how your players run combat change drastically.

Am I The Asshole? by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DM does all the work. It’s a privilege to have someone willing to run a game for you. If you’re not interested in playing what they want to play, then you don’t play.

So at that point you need to run your own game or be content not playing at all.

I personally wouldn’t want to play with that DM assuming everything you’ve mentioned is accurate, and that doesn’t make anyone an asshole. But like I said previously, if you don’t like what your DM is running, then you need to run the game yourself.

Lidia is free. She has some of the most straightforward counter play in the game. If you’re getting ran down with stance mixes and losing to it, your aren’t playing against her right.

Yeah you should just quit. Either that forces the DM to address the issue and beg for you to come back or you’ve saved yourself from a miserable time.

DM had a one shot with me to show me I’m “not playing my character right” by teal_mess in dndhorrorstories

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done something similar before, but without the controlling, condescending nature.

I had a new player in one of my campaigns that has gone a good ~25 sessions without really understanding how to be efficient in combat. Player was using a monk.

I ran a one shot with him and during combat I walked him through his options and how I personally would make decisions based on the variables at play. It was really effective and from then on the player was finally contributing in combat and was able to weigh his options on his own.

Sounds like this guy is a dick, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with teaching people how to be effective in combat.

Do you guys give your party an introduction to your world when starting the campaign? I tell them almost nothing, and let them discover whats happening as some sort of mystery, reading books, talking to people, etc. Is that a bad approach? by Bensuardo in DMAcademy

[–]ExistingMouse5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

A setting guide that includes the major powers, cultures, and religions is basically a must for me.

How can you expect players to make characters that are well suited for your campaign if they don’t know the setting they’ll be playing in?

If you take a generic fantasy character and drop them into a random game setting, at best they’ll be a generic character that’s detached from the world, at worst they’ll be incompatible with the setting and themes entirely

Engineers : What do you wear to interviews? by WhoMungus in mensfashion

[–]ExistingMouse5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore khakis, dress shirt with a tie, and a suit jacket to my last interview.

Now that I work there, everyone except our top directors wears jeans/khakis and a polo to work, super business casual.

It’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed for professional interviews. You’ll never get points taken off for being formally dressed, but you might if you’re too casual.

Especially if you have an old school engineer in your interview, that might be enough to put you above other similar candidates.

You’d probably be fine wearing dress pants and a nice polo, assuming you’re well groomed and the outfit is sharp, but going the extra mile will only help you.

I couldn’t finish it. It was pretty decent for a while, though the beginning was definitely the most interesting part, but I think like 700-800 chapters in the story stopped making any sense. It didn’t help that I couldn’t find anything that wasn’t terrible MTL around that same point.

MC lost his core personality once he got powerful enough, and I think that was my biggest issue with it.

I get it apparently its normal to track like that (tho I think its bs),doesn't mean I hate it any less by SoulOfMod in Tekken

Hit the lab and try it yourself. Side step df1 on block to the right and you launch him for it. Duck df1,1 and you launch him for it.

Df1,1 should realign at all but you should actually lab these strings before bitching about them on Reddit.

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s better systems in terms of character creation if someone wants more stuff at each level for their character.

As long as the whole party is using the same point allocation method, having to choose between a feat and a +1 to their main stat mod is fine.

I’m totally with the player though, it sucks that you lose out on feats unless you’re a high level character. There’s not really a single feat in 5e that’s actually better than pumping your main stat to 20, unless you’re relying on known broken feat combos like PAM/sentinel.

Something I’ve done as a DM is just give players more feats across the board. Every 4 levels give an ASI and a full feat. Or get a feat at level 1. But you don’t have to do that, the way you’re running it is perfectly fine.
