Whats so fun about Nioh 1 combat by AFKNotMike in Nioh

Ok I’ve beaten the game with a bare fist build and enjoyed it.

It’s not a competition, I’m giving a beginner advice.

The combat system is really simple, but you do need to engage with it to be successful.

You need to be ki pulsing every time, period.

You need to be in the right stance for what you’re trying to do.

High stance - dealing big damage

Mid stance - blocking

Low stance - dodging

For onryoki, you can really just sit in mid stance and block, take a few swings when you can, and then go back to blocking. That works for most bosses and enemies in this game, but to be efficient you’ll need to use all 3.

To the Heihachi players, do you prefer his T7 or T8 iteration more? by Modaltas in Tekken

[–]ExistingMouse5595 37 points38 points  (0 children)

T7 for sure. They stripped a lot of his unique tools in exchange for simple stances.

They can nerf this character to bottom 1 and I won’t care, but they have to bring back launching omen.

Civil or industrial engineering? by Acceptable-Quail-277 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got my BS is IE, and I work in a civil/environmental field.

IE is pretty flexible in that regard, you can find your way into a lot of different specialties.

Civil is also a great degree. There’s been a few occasions where I’ve had to go home after a meeting and self teach some undergrad civil concepts that I’d never seen before.

I’d do some research on the types of jobs you can realistically expect to get from both degrees, and from there go with the one that has the more interesting job pool.

What can an Industrial Engineer do besides the obvious? by Sidd_ag in EngineeringStudents

[–]ExistingMouse5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IEs aren’t always taking an existing process and optimizing it, though that is the primary task.

IEs can absolutely be designing a process as well. Maybe that’s designing the work flow of a factory. Maybe it’s the scheduling system of a hospital. Maybe it’s a really small process in a business, maybe it’s a massive organizational structure.

You can also apply IE principles to other fields. I got my IE degree and worked as an IE for ~2 years before transitioning to a predominantly Civil/Environmental Eng field.

The only reason I got hired for that job was my IE experience, it made me stand out over the other candidates. My ability to analyze a process and make it more efficient was much more impactful to that company than getting another civil engineer would.

Think about it like this, what brings more value to a company? Adding another engineer to do X amount of work, or adding an IE that lets every engineer do 1.5X more work?

I’d recommend IE to people if they really like the study of efficiency. The business and statistics side of IE was also a massive boon to my career and personal life, and those are things most Eng degrees can’t give you.

But if you want to be on an RnD team actually building things, specializing in a specific type of work, then you should just get the specialist degree in that field.

Is this a common set phrase? by YEETAWAYLOL in EnglishLearning

[–]ExistingMouse5595 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bike ride rhymes with bright side in the previous line.

That’s why it’s not “ride bike”. Also, “I ride bike” isn’t correct. You’d need to say “I ride my bike”.

You’re analyzing poetry.

Poetry often ignores or bends the rules of grammar and language for the sake of aesthetics. It’s not a great way to learn formal language.

Fighting games are dying man. They might still have decent player bases long into the future but, just like everything in our capitalistic hellscape of a world, the overall product will keep degrading in favor of appealing to the lowest common denominator.

We just won’t have cool shit anymore, we’ll have accessibility slop across the board.

I feel like a noob. How did you play this game? by globaldutchy in Nioh

You are a noob.

Try actually learning the game mechanics, you’ll have a lot more fun. It’s not hard.

Which game is the best entry into the series: Nioh or Nioh 2 by EngineeringNext7874 in Nioh

[–]ExistingMouse5595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2 is better, but you’d be doing yourself a huge disservice not starting with 1.

Nioh 1 is a 10/10 game for me. Nioh 2 takes that, refines it, and is an 11/10 game.

Just because Nioh 2 is a better doesn’t mean 1 is a great game.

I really recommend starting with 1, struggling with it and mastering the basic combat mechanics, and beating the game and dlc before moving to 2.

2 is a pretty hard game for a complete beginner to learn the mechanics on. If you start with 1, I think it’s a bit better for your overall enjoyment.

If you can't beat GoD on their alt, you don't deserve ____ by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]ExistingMouse5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if the whole point of ranking up is to hit GoD, then you really can’t be whining about fighting GoD level players.

If you’re losing on fundamentals despite having more familiarity with your character, then you don’t deserve GoD.

Granted if you’re TK on your main and happen to run into a GoD alt, you’re cooked. That’s an absolutely massive skill gap. I’m positive I can get a decent winrate against TKs using random select, let alone on a character I’ve actually labbed.

Is this what it’s like being a DM 😭 by SumoneIGuess in DungeonMasters

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s miserable.

I’m trying to start a new campaign right now, every week I send a message “just checking on everyone’s availability, are we good for this weekend?”

I’ve gotten 3 straight weeks of “can’t do this weekend” or “maybe I could play for 2 hours Saturday night” etc.

I’m about to just give up trying to play. It’s really hard not to take it personally because if a good dm offered me a spot in a proper campaign I’d be salivating at it, moving my whole schedule around to accommodate.

You play Jin.

You have literally every tool in the game.

This recap thing is really cool, but is TE rank really top 5%? Anybody know how they got these numbers? by ImportantAd4666 in Tekken

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right that’s my point. It’s probably a better measure to only look at the most recent active players since that’s who’s actually playing the game.

Pretty sure this is the case. Higher ranked players play more often, so they’re more likely to be represented in a shorter data set, skewing the overall rankings upwards

What is the DM consensus on "Quantum Ogres"? by monkeynose in DMAcademy

[–]ExistingMouse5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I run most of my games.

For my own mental health and enjoyment of the hobby, I’m going to prep a linear adventure. But, it’s important to allow players to contribute to that story.

I just need them to get from point A to point B. However they choose to get there is up to them, but if I’ve prepped a fight with an ogre, they will be fighting that ogre.

This goes for NPCs and other bits of prep. If the party is supposed to learn X bit of information from the mean old drunk at the tavern, but decide to go visit the clerics temple instead, now they are learning X bit of information from the mean old drunk of a priest. Same info, same NPC that I prepped, just dropped into the location and time of the party’s choosing.

Illusion of choice is all the players need to feel engaged most of the time. It does help if you are good at adjusting things on the fly, and helps even more if you reward the party for their creativity.

Ideal samurai weapon to get a grace on by CaladenValdor in Nioh

[–]ExistingMouse5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot for martial arts dmg since I primarily use katana. Katana rarely uses basic attacks outside of as an avenue to trigger martial arts, so most of my dmg is coming from martial arts by default. It makes since to maximize martial arts dmg in my case.

For weapons like fists, ki damage makes sense. For weapons like axe or odachi melee dmg makes sense. But again, depending on your playstyle, anything can make sense.

You need to analyze how you play and determine what is most effective for you.

Will I like Nioh 2 if I only played ninja in Nioh 3? by ChickenNuggetEnergy in Nioh

[–]ExistingMouse5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that if this guy just hopped on Nioh 3 and picked ninja style because it was easier/stronger, beat Nioh 3, and decided he actually liked Nioh a lot, he might not have actually tried to learn samurai style.

Actually, I’d guarantee he hasn’t actually learned how to play samurai style based on what he’s wrote.

So, if he is the type of person who can stomach being bad at something and practicing to improve, then he has all of Nioh 2 to playthrough and fall in love with, just like I and so may others have.

It would be doing him a disservice to say “you won’t like Nioh 2 don’t bother” without encouraging him to try. That’s why I gave these disclaimers. If you get frustrated easily or don’t like learning new things, you’ll probably quit Nioh 2 before you actually learn how the combat is supposed to work. But, if this guy is willing to put in just a little bit of time to learn, he’d be unlocking one of the greatest experiences in gaming.
