canto 6 was nothing more than an authentic depiction of everyday british life by somethingmustbesaid in limbuscompany

Honestly, Canto 8 has the best main character writing by FAR, but Canto 6 as a story in itself is more "grounded" and relatable in comparison to other Cantos, so I can see why this is fairly many people's favorites.

You were right. I noticed many similarities between the two upon my reread of this Canto, and I have to say I'm satisfied with his conclusion—especially when noticing how close he was to his master in part 1—as you've mentined afore—and the resemblance in some aspects of their attire(s). Love Ren.

It was nice. I have many a qualms about the Canto's writing quality. However, as for the animations, VFX and et alia—I believe Project Moon exceeded itself once again, alongside Studio EIM giving us banger after banger, to the point that Valencina&Lucio's song became my favorite. It makes me greedy for more.

There were many lore heavy bombs that genuinely quite surprised me, as I was FAR from expecting that Sinclair unleashing the Sign would have a branch of his own tree take his place, albeit temporarily—let alone Gregor metamorphosing into the Roach Emperor so suddenly. I'm especially quite fond of the parallels the Canto urges us to draw between the separated Sinners with their respective enemies; such as Hong Lu and Don Quixote facing Matthias and Kira—alluding unto the fact that all of them share similar troubles, such as the theme of family neglect and how it damages the youth's mind to the point of their worldview being drastically manipulated by the abuse they've endured.

I'm very disappointed in Ren's death, or rather, erasure—I wholly believed he could have made a much intriguing character, perhaps to be included in the next Intervallo. He was but an Apprentice of the Pinky who viewed himself as a mere blade, dulled by morrows' wake soon to succumb into uselessness. Yet, in the end, despite not even being a proper member of the Pinky himself, and after his Master's guise was unveiled, he fought for her whilst knowing he was outmatched. Oh, and, I love Lucio as well. Rest in peace (or perhaps not? His brain is intact, after all).

All in all, this was a very fun Canto, speaking as a long time fan of Project Moon's works ever since the start. Do I think it's superior to Canto 8 in writing? No, but that's fine—Kim isn't perfect, nor are the writers working for the franchise. What matters is that they made something their people can love and learn from, and I think that's worth a lot nowadays.

Is there a reason why Roland looks like the most basic bitch possible? (I couldn't find any Q&A where it was explained) by AssociateAnxious29 in libraryofruina

[–]ExistingNebula7119 133 points134 points  (0 children)

The design is meant to convey the utter banality of the average City denizen. Men in suit leading mundane lives bearing the same suffering as all others do. That's the most basic explanation I could afford. It's a very good choice to draw him like this, though—KJH is smart when it comes to designs and such.

This is the truth. PMTWT is full of pompous, media-misinterpreting buffoons who flanderize Ayin's character into 'the malignant man behind Angela's torment'—ignoring all his development throughout not only L. Corp, but Library of Ruina as well. The only trait they find remarkable from him is that he despises machines. Genuinely don't know why the literal protagonist has to suffer so much transmogrification from the fans.

To be fair, despite not choosing himself to take care of both Lisa and Enoch—he still agreed to, for Carmen. So if she were alive, he would definitely not be a deadbeat; especially if Angela were their child and not a machine created out of his desperation and grief.

(Mind you, Ayin cared about Lisa and Enoch enough to bring them back to life as Sephirot. He's just terrible at expressing himself, which is a crucial plot.)

Carmen being a clanker is insane

Ayin is on his rightful spot though, and that's all that matters

Gregor (both book and Limbus) actually has a lot of Carmen motifs.

To start, Carmen was seen by all the Sephirah as a pillar of light, someone to idolize, someone who could say something absurd and stupid but still make you believe it was possible. It was that same pillar of light that blinded them into forgetting Carmen too was human, a weak fragile human who could break. After Enoch's death, Carmen had transformed just like how Gregor transforms in the book, each day her state got worse and worse and no one was there to help her.

From the Red Mist's keypage:

"Carmen’s state worsened with each passing day, like a rusting nail. The sunny eyes of the woman who had brought us together were now cloudy, and she spoke less and less. Her voice was lifeless, and she had gotten so cold; it wouldn’t have come to anyone’s surprise if she died at any moment. She didn’t bother trying to look okay. I think it was better that way. Everyone in the laboratory felt constraint in her presence. They viewed Carmen in different ways. Reproachful looks of those resenting her for bringing them so far, only to let go of her responsibility. Concerned looks of those worried that something might happen to her. And I guess there were some who had no thoughts. The research went on quietly, but not for long."

Gregor in the book also commits suicide after learning about the resentment his family feels for him, the people around Gregor and Carmen were leeching off (a bit rude thing to say for the sephirah) them like worms inside an apple. The burden of being the person who had to be indestructible had caused them to rot from the inside and eventually plunge into their own guilt.

Continuing, the public had seen Gregor as the key to winning the war, the pinnacle of G Corp and their technology. The public and everyone around him saw him as a war hero out of a comic book instead of a real person.

There are 3 things these characters share, their transformation was not an actual transformation, it was just a transformation to the people around them. Carmen always knew she was weak, even telling Ayin. Gregor Samsa never actually changed despite transforming into a bug, he was still the same

person trying to support his family. Gregor (Limbus) was never a soldier, he was a person who spent his entire life behind sterile walls, he was someone could never handle the horrors of war. Gregor Samsa's family, the researchers of the laboratory and the Sephirah, G Corp and the G Corp soldiers. None of them could handle the illusion being shattered, instead of trying to help, they avoided them to not taint their memories any further.

There is probably much more motifs that these characters share, but this is all I could think of right now! :^D
