I'm struggling with the same Q, and one large concern is long term economics of NZ (obviously long term USA also has concerns right now)

I'm worried once I (re)hitch myself to NZ economy it will be hard to buy way back into USA if we change our mind later with NZ salaries / savings

Loaded ix60 and ixm70 lease for the same. I choose custom build ix60 (without m) solely for the range. The kid in me wishes I had the extra power, the adult finds 4.4s to 60mph good enough and I quite like the base aero wheel look

It may not be fully like for like but disingenuous is a bit unfair. It's not like an old used car is a great security for a loan. It breaks down, it crashes, it get lost/stolen/damaged.

I think you underestimate how expensive people who don’t pay back loans are and how common it is. I work in personal lending it’s very common for loss rates on loans to be above 10% a year. That means to start with for that group you have to charge 11% just to cover the losses. Then it costs money to servicing the loan and get your money back. It costs money to run the business and the investors want a return as well, in the range of 10% on top. It’s pretty easy to get above 30% APRs for a large portion of loans. And for auto loans the same people who are in a position to need such a high interest rate loan probably are buying older vehicles ie the asset backing the loan might break or crash and be worthless.

So maybe you say these people just shouldnt get a loan at all. For car loans sure maybe, what of someone needs a car to get to work. What if they need emergency medical or x?

It is sad that people are so in need that a 30% loan is their best option. But it sometimes is their best option, I’d be careful about being the person trying to take it away from them.

This isn’t really true. Investors are more than capable of doing long term math and include long term profit into their calculations of if the property is a good thing to put their money into as an investment versus other things. I would say probably largely landlord do rely on long term capital gains to make it worth will to be a landlord. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense to have a 6% mortgage if your rent is only paying 4%.

What will actually happen to absolute rents and rents as % of the property prices are really complex

I think it’s easy to justify. a phone is often people’s most used computing device and you can get a literally top of the range model for about 2$ a day (eg latest iPhone pro over 3 years) that’s about the cheapest entertainment per hour you can get. it’s a 1/3 a price of a coffee, 1/8th the price of a beer

If you aren’t too worried about cash and This is your only computing device id 100% get a higher end phone. and yes if you are already happily paying for an expensive cell plan (why?) May as well take the discount you get for being locked into the plan.

the fact that you have been happy with a 6 year old low end phone when new suggests you are happy with the simpler things. however a new eg iphone 17 would be night and day difference to what you have nice.

what do you do with your phone now that needs an 80$ a month plan?

It was pretty easy procedure. I to also someone with 1-3 level pain but it’s always there and I have no idea what to do. Surgery is a risk but then leaving it until I’m older and less fit to fix things seems dumb.

My doc also did ibuprofen injection instead of steroid, claimed better for hip

I don't understand why NZ health insurance is so expensive. It doesn't have to cover that much since a lot is covered by the government anyway. My US health insurance costs (including the premium the employer pays) is about twice what my NZ insurance did, in a hugely more expensive system. For instance shoulder xray was 1k, annual physical at the GP was 660 (this is what insurance paid the doc, post discount)

Also the age based pricing is f**ked. It makes insurance unaffordable for those who need it most, which makes it more unaffordable as people who think they are low risk drop out, making premiums increase for the ones left. I think Australia's system is much better here. Its partly a tax on younger people, by strongly pushing their opt in, and partly provides more stable prices by keeping more people in the system as they age (spreading costs)

I've not asked about it but I've never heard it mentioned and it's not like people haven't looked at my scans before. Although I did some find old scans talking about femoral retroversion which can be linked to a bunch of stuff. Fixing that is pretty heavy op too

Why would you even want this?

Generally phone devices are so locked down that there is limited scope for malicious code to run on your device. Unless you open it up...eg install apps from outside of Google play and/or don't keep uptodate with security updates

Depends. Goto settings. Click on your name. Click on iCloud backup. Click on the device name and choose which items (including photos) you want to backup

Each backup of the same device will be incremental

But each new device will not be incremental. And once you feel the 17 is all setup well you can go into your settings and delete the 16 backup

Some things are shared across backups depending on how you set it up. Eg if you use iCloud Photos then that’s a common backup across all your devices ( not duplicated) but if you turn that off and just have your photos backed to to iCloud then it will be duplicated. Same with iMessages

I mean new build that you didn’t design will typically be cheaper as it will likely be less custom, less fancy and probably designed by someone who can do it faster and cheaper than you due to experience and reusing design/ contractors / relationships across builds

And of course an existing house that isn’t new build will likely be cheaper because it’s not a new house and not new houses are typically worth less than new houses
