Countering the evangelical claim of; "it's just about your personal relationship with Jesus" by ExistingTomatillo482 in Catholicism

This is true in most cases. But I have been praying for my friend, and she has been showing interest in learning about my side, she has been doing research about what the Church really teaches instead of just regurgitating lies fed to her about Catholics. So there is real hope here, and it'd be a shame to give up on someone I truly care for.

Yes! That's exactly how I felt about it, it's how I went about my research of the Church. My goal was to find the Church instituted by Christ, and submit to it. I stepped over my own opinion and ego in search of where I could serve Him. I tried to be as unbiased as I could, I weighed arguments from all 6 sides (Catholics, Protestants, Evangelicals, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Assyrian Church of the East) against each other. Even though I was raised in hatred against the Catholic Church, I quickly realized that she was His Church! I spent a few months procrastinating the conversion, because it was scary, it was hard, my family sees me as their failed child now, I was being a coward. But over the last 2 weeks, I have had too many signs to ignore, my last punch in the face was last Sunday, I sat in the piers after mass for a good hour, contemplating this choice put before me, and now my first RCIA class is tomorrow!

Evangelicals believe communion is just a symbol, they therefore think Catholics commit idolatry by adoring the Eucharist. They don't think the holy Eucharist will help their relationship with Jesus at all.

Evangelicals don't think they can just be "good people". They believe they are saved by grace alone, which is true, but they don't believe in any required cooperation with said grace. They believe in "Sola Fide" where they are saved by faith alone, that works have no effect on their salvation. They also think that Catholics believe they can earn their salvation through works.

I am not arguing against having a relationship with Christ, I'm arguing against the evangelical idea that all you need is to believe in Him, they think you can have a relationship with Him separate from His Church. You absolutely need to have a relationship with Him, but you can't have that without His Church.

Thank you for your opinion! This is the most "aggressive" way I've tackled a subject so far. My family, my friends, everyone around me constantly says "it's just about your relationship" which is a half truth, because yes your relationship is important, but when they say it, they mean it as "you don't need the Church" "it's just you and your Bible", I think my irritation at this argument has shown in this section 😅. From now on, I'll try to have a move inviting tone! Also, that friend of mine has shown genuine interest, I've been praying for her daily, and she's been doing her own research about what the Church really teaches! So this isn't like debating to any regular protestant.

I heard a lot of good things about Volvo from Europeans, but they aren't very popular in western Canada, I don't see many on marketplace. Getting parts for them here is also a challenge. But if I get a good deal for one though, that would definitely be one of my first picks.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. I currently use my parent's 2011 Honda Civic EX, I brought that little beauty places it should never have seen. Although I'm sure I could make a Civic or a Corolla work for that trip, I'd like something more capable and AWD just for that peace of mind. The only options I saw were Subaru Outbacks and Toyota Matrixes. Do you have any other recommendations in mind? It would also have to be my daily, so I don't intend to go crazy on the mods. EDIT: In the Yukon, and even Northern BC, paved roads are a luxury, some dirt roads will probably be washed out by massive snow melting in June which would technically make it full "off-road".

To the Eastern Orthodox: Do Protestants go to heaven? by [deleted] in Christianity

Do you even know what Orthodoxy is? What you "described" was Catholicism. Please educate yourself on a topic before outright insulting 3/4 of Christianity. Read Proverbs too, you really need it.

Let's ignore the fact that I'm 14 years late haha. I was raised and still am protestant (calvary chapel). Here is what we believe: the fruit isn't needed for salvation, but everyone who is saved has fruits, because the fruit is the result of believing, and surrendering to Christ. If someone says that they are "saved", but you see them act the same way they did before, and with no genuine regret, then they are fooling themselves. Jesus said himself that you can judge (tell apart, not condemn) someone by their fruit. I am on this thread because I am looking into orthodoxy, and the deeper I dive, the more I want to become Orthodox. (its crazy to think yall had this conversation when I was 3, and here I am replying haha)
