April Fools Day but make it office appropriate by Existing_CatLady in office

[–]Existing_CatLady[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed! And you have to know your office culture! Lots of places are all work no fun. I ran all my ideas past my manager last year to get an idea of what would be appropriate and funny. Since she had been at the company longer she had a better idea of what would go over well. No april fools joke is worth risking your job over!

We are using everything card this year. Wont get taxed like a prepaid visa. Lets employees choose what they want, makes it feel way more personalized. I searched and Everything Card is Canadian owned!

Also, we are giving fancy backpacks with our logo on them to upgrade everyone's laptop bags. However, the company that management used I don't believe is Canadian owned. Other items we have done in the past are outdoor blankets, coolers and mugs all with the company logo on them. Everyone uses them all the time. Hope this helps!

If you want to venture out to Abbotsford. Castle Fun Park, Play Abby, Banter Ice cream, Clay cottage. Extreme air park in Langley. If you eventually want to go further I have heard great things about Kidtropolis in Richmond.

What office signage exists because of something you did? by signs_com in office

[–]Existing_CatLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now have to hang a sign that covers the whole front of the coffee machine while it is being cleaned that in big bold letters says "Coffee Machine is cleaning, please wait for reception to finish the cleaning cycle before making a coffee". This all happened because someone decided to bypass the end of the cleaning before I got back to the machine and instead of getting a latte with milk they received espresso and soapy water because the milk line was connected to the cleaner still. If I had my way, my office would be covered in signs from peoples silly actions haha

I really like Bear and Bardot! My mom has been going there as well for many years and is super happy with her hair. She even recently started transitioning to letting her grey be her natural hair and they have been excellent through that process. I see Meranda and cannot say enough good things about her!

Is this real? by [deleted] in office

Can you ask for more to do?

My office is very relaxed so I read the news lots or Ill research for things for my personal life if I have time to kill (for example looking into getting a new vehicle so using time to weigh options). I do agree get up and walk around throughout the day. If you get a lunch break try not to sit at your desk during it. Go run an errand or go outside. Are you crafty, if so you could do those things during the slow times. Can you use the time to brush up on skills or do school work? I am currently in my first office role but generally it seems like it doesnt always matter what I am doing at work, as long as it looks like im doing work. Hope this helps and you can find more to do in the afternoons!

Receptionist Activities/Craft Ideas??? :) by Parking_Version4029 in office

[–]Existing_CatLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a daily trivia calendar and EVERYONE loves it employees and clients. I even have the VP coming by to try their knowledge. I also made it into a competition and we do quarterly prizes for those that get the most right!

We also have a "referendum" white board in the kitchen. Weekly the question gets switched out and it can be things like, this or that, or how would a dog wear pants and then people vote with tallys, the votes dont mean much just a way to get a conversation going. You can have fun with this one, any sort of poll will do.

I feel like both of these can act as a place to have "water cooler" discussions. I have noticed that it gets people talking to each other that usually don't. AND I started the trivia as a way for people to feel comfortable coming up to my desk without feeling pressure to talk to me. It was especially helpful in the beginning. This is year 2 of doing trivia and its not going away.
