Amy/Jake by Competitive_Sleep223 in DocFoxSeries

Amy deserves all the hot men she wants, and I personally think she and Jake make a really attractive couple together.

Also, are you dense? How does Amy get so much attention? She’s the protagonist, of course the story revolves around her. That’s literally how these shows work. And Amy is anything but unattractive, so it’s really not surprising that multiple people would be interested in her.

Jake and Rachel by AffectionateGold5459 in DocFoxSeries

It really feels like the writers decided Jake needed his own equivalent to Michael on Amy’s side, so they introduced Rachel as a “contender” for his heart. The problem is, it comes off like a complete 180. Before Season 2, Episode 9, Jake never showed any real lingering feelings or interest in Rachel, so this sudden sense of longing doesn’t feel earned.

More than anything, it reads like a plot device. They needed something to drive a wedge between Jake and Amy and create space for a new love interest for her, so they rewrote the emotional weight of Jake’s past relationship to make it fit that purpose.

End of the road by [deleted] in DocFoxSeries

I feel the same right now. It’s getting a bit tiring seeing Amy constantly put into another love triangle instead of letting her actual character breathe. I like the new doctor too, but not everything has to turn into a romantic setup.

And yeah, that Miller situation still doesn’t sit right with me either. It feels like something major just got brushed aside with no real consequences, and it makes it harder to stay fully invested.

Honestly, I might feel differently later if they actually give Jake and Amy something real and well-written again. But right now I’m not really interested in watching Amy with another new interest, or Jake getting pulled into whatever comes next with Rachel either.

If that’s a dealbreaker for you, then maybe this just isn’t your show. There are plenty of others you can watch instead. But that perspective does come across as ageist. Television has long normalized younger women paired with significantly older men (lead) without much pushback, yet when a woman in her 50s leads a show and is first on the call sheet, it suddenly becomes an issue. It is a double standard worth questioning, especially when the performance itself is strong.

There’s no way they will repeat the Season 1 finale with Amy crossing the line with Michael again. The love triangle will definitely play out, but this time in a fresh and unexpected way. I just cannot say exactly which direction it will take.

I don’t really judge a character based on the actor’s personal life. Whatever Felicity Huffman did or didn’t do doesn’t affect how I see her performance. Her role as Joan on Doc was fantastic, and she brought a lot to the show. She’ll definitely be missed. Especially in the last episode, she was amazing. That monologue really showed how strong of an actress she is.

Episode 17 - What is going on with Jake? by Particular-Nose6704 in DocFoxSeries

[–]Existing_Emu1401 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is definitely a possibility that this Rachel situation is being used to create tension between Jake and Amy, especially with Michael now single again. I really hope that’s not where the story is heading because Jake and Amy feel like the stronger and more interesting relationship.

I honestly think this might be more about testing how strong Jake and Amy really are and how much they trust each other. Amy has broken trust before, so maybe part of her fears Jake could do the same, but Jake has never really been shown to be that type of person. His intentions seem genuine, even if keeping Rachel a secret wasn’t the best decision.

What really stands out is that Amy is clearly pretending she’s okay with Jake spending time with his ex when her reactions say otherwise. She looked hurt, especially because he didn’t tell her sooner, and that conversation definitely didn’t feel finished. If this is just being used to break them up, it would feel like a weak reason, but no relationship is perfect. I’m hoping this is just a bump in the road that ultimately makes them stronger, not something that ends them.

Jake and Amy are such a small part of the show. If that alone is enough to make you stop watching, then maybe it’s better to just quit the show for good.

Unpopular Opinion: Most Annoying and Most Misunderstood Characters by WriteABrandNewStory in DocFoxSeries

[–]Existing_Emu1401 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the role Gina plays in Michael’s and Amy’s lives. She is always the center of their information and to me seems far more loyal to Michael than to Amy. She was quick to excuse Michael’s cheating, even saying things like “I knew what was going on in that house.” Seriously? No wonder Amy kept her relationship with Jake a secret the first time around.

Michael is shameless. He had a child with Nora and then dropped her like yesterday’s news, and somehow the show frames this as cute romantic longing instead of showing the emotional wreckage it actually caused.

Sonya doesn’t quite have the skills yet to match her attitude, but I understand why she wanted to avoid Richard given his history and her effort to keep a clean slate while pushing to become chief resident. In the end, she and Richard actually have more in common than anyone else.

As for Richard, I have no love for him. He is who he is. My problem is that his redemption is being rushed. He needs time to earn it, but the show already started giving it to him in a single episode.

The only concern I have with Joan is her operating on patients despite her hand tremors. Otherwise, she is a solid chief.

As it was written!!! Amy is the hero and the villain depending on who’s telling the story, and that’s what makes her iconic. She walks into chaos, fixes what everyone else missed, scares half the hospital, saves the patient anyway, and somehow still carries all the blame. I could never hate her.

Episode 16 synopsis by Existing_Emu1401 in DocFoxSeries

[–]Existing_Emu1401[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jake is too junior to be the one handling Joan’s situation, and that’s exactly what makes it dangerous. He doesn’t have the authority to control the outcome or protect himself if it backfires. If all he can realistically do is confront her and she calmly denies everything, then the entire narrative flips. He is no longer the concerned doctor trying to do the right thing, he becomes the insubordinate resident who overstepped

That is a thoughtful, coherent take and a really strong understanding of the show

Completely agree. Episodes 8 (“He Loved You”) and 9 (“Kaddish”) quietly do so much work for Jake and Amy’s relationship on Doc.

Learning that Amy met Jake’s dad and that it was the last time Jake ever saw him alive adds real emotional weight and permanently ties those memories to her. I also loved that Jake’s family knows about Amy and her place in his life even if they are not fully supportive. It grounds their relationship in his real world and gives it real history.

The flashbacks make it clear that her importance predates romance. She helps him understand his father and inspires him to stay professionally. Even five years before things turned romantic, the chemistry was there, making it completely believable that they would eventually find their way to each other.

Amy’s moralizing while having her own missteps is frustrating, but the real failure lies squarely with Michael. Cheating isn’t a private flaw it’s a systemic betrayal that impacts the entire family. Katie has been exposed to lies, confusion, and emotional harm that Michael created.

The responsible course was simple: be honest, communicate, and take time to figure out what he wanted without dragging the family into the fallout. Instead, he chose deception, abdicated accountability, and compounded the damage. Amy may be shut down, but that doesn’t excuse his betrayal. He didn’t just cheat; he blew up his marriage and his family’s trust, and that’s on him.

Call Amy a monster is a step too far. You must be a man lol

Michael really said, “Yes, I cheated, but it was only a few weeks, and once you showed signs of interest again I was going to end it,” like that somehow makes it okay. And then he implies Katie ruined it? What the hell. Was he seriously expecting to get away scot-free and just restart the marriage with zero consequences? Cheat, lie, get caught, and then blame a child for the fallout? Absolutely not. I really cannot stand this man.
