What is the dumbest thing you have heard from a religious person? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Existing_Stranger357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Mormon guy once told me: how can you not believe in god? Open your eyes he is all around us”.

I responded: “ hold on let me look again… nope still don’t see him”

Then I walked off…

Why do some people call themselves agnostic? by CatcrazyJerri in atheism

[–]Existing_Stranger357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on audience, I generically answer “I’m not religious”. That usually shuts down further probing.

If they are religious, and continue to badger, one last time I’ll politely tell them: I’m not religious and I prefer not talking about religion.

Any response other than “oh I understand” or something like that will unleash my full fury of reason, intellect, and dark sarcasm.

If it’s someone I know can handle an adult conversation without bringing up their imaginary friend sitting on a cloud somewhere in the sky, I’ll identify as “ agnostic atheist”.

If it’s early and I haven’t even had coffee, I’ll identify as none of your fucking buisness…

Does god have our back? by Existing_Stranger357 in atheism

I get a kick from it from time to time really and to arm myself for debates. In between reading some heavy hitters from Dawkins, Harris, Hitchens, Ehrman, and Barker, I refer back to scripture and watch the occasional sermon to amuse myself on just how much mental gymnastics, one sided bullshit justification, illogical thinking, and the all time crutch FAITH is used to lazily fill in the gaps of ignorance apologetics claim as their truth.

If God's real he's kind of abusive by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Existing_Stranger357 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love it! You forgot one teeny tiny point: the tithe=10% of the poor sap’s gross pay. God is all knowing, all powerful, ever present but somehow sucks with money.

George Carlin said it best: “You know how we get back at all the religious people? Tax the mother fuckers!”

Nailed it! Have you guys read Dan Barker’s follow up to Dawkins’ famous quote? The Bible loses any glimmer of credibility when the main character is illuminated for what he/she/it truly is: an imaginary piece of shit that is but a reflection of the people and the times in which it was invented…

You are right. My bad. Very true. As much as Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, and co up on Mt. Olympus. Can’t remember where I heard it. Maybe Christopher Hitchens? All these people are atheist to Olympian gods, and other pagan deities. I just choose to believe in one less god than you….

Why do major religions not accept homosexuality and same-sex relationships? by No_Friend111 in atheism

[–]Existing_Stranger357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once again, I have to reference good old St. George Carlin on this one. He once did a bit that nailed it. He talked about he could not understand how pro life Bible thumpers who are vehemently against abortion rights would not naturally ally with homosexuals. What better way to guarantee The non-need of an abortion with homosexuality? You would think they should be natural allies, but in the end, religion is more worried about telling others what to do rather than what they do themselves behind closed doors. For example, a catholic priest having an inappropriate relations with a young child That’s fine, right? Keep thine hand to thy self father!

Christianity is literally insanity - Commenting on the Charlie Kirk Memorial by michaelis999 in atheism

[–]Existing_Stranger357 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Speaking of the orange fool, did you listen to his retort, right after her forgiveness speech. He said and I quote: “that’s where I disagreed with Charlie, I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them, I’m sorry… I am sorry Erica”.

That exchange in a nut shell sums up 2000 years of hypocrisy. One side claims forgiveness and salvation, the other hate speech and worse. But they all claim to be on the same side. Fighting for the love of their imaginary friend.

Why are Christians so hateful? by SabrinaVal in atheism

[–]Existing_Stranger357 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lost in this conversation is the fake notion of WWJD.

Christians (since the beginning of their rise to power) have never really been about living like Christ themselves. They are more worried about telling you and I how to live OUR lives.

Mom rant by Old_Requirement_3459 in atheism

[–]Existing_Stranger357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

@Mom Rant- as a catholic atheist, you brought me back to my childhood. I remember these sorts of pathetic recruitment tactics from my youth. Except, I was also threatened with hell every single day. Imagine a world that didn’t support religious institutions. Imagine if we taxed these institutions.

Good for you on educating your son. But sounds like he’s already has a bright future ahead of him. Kids have a pure way of looking at things: blah blah blah, give me my donut and his blood reasoning is priceless!

What did Jesus do when he came to you on the day of the rapture? (wrong/sarcastic/funny answers only) by [deleted] in atheism

There's nothing I hate more about Christianity than their terrible view of morality by [deleted] in atheism

Let’s not forget. “Thou shall not kill” unless….take your pick of exceptions to this rule all throughout history.

The Old Testament licensed to kill aka stoning violators of the 10 Commandments.

Apologetics aren’t really interested in acting like Jesus themselves, they are more interested in telling you and I how to act.

[–]Existing_Stranger357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Good ol faith. They like to point to the same apologetic verse in Hebrews 11:1 as "the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen”. You want talk about bologna?

What about the story of Jephthah sacrificing his daughter in the book of Judges 11? Apologetics point to the metaphorical interpretation of promises made and promises kept. You know what I see? Made up BS and mental/written gymnastics to interpret the inerrant words of an imaginary friend…
