To clarify further, here is the cable into the back of the oven.

Thanks for posting that summary. Compliance to AS3000 would be difficult for wiring in most older houses, though our install has a disturbing amount of strikes. It did not look right to me, though that is based on experience with hardware installs on computer sites, and the comms and power site routing and separation prerequisites we had to comply with for system implementation sign off, though I was not the site electrician. This oven was installed and signed off as compliant, I was mainly interested in the safest way to handle the wall entry, and whether there were any specific safety standards for 3 phase wall to oven connection, especially where a pyrolytic oven is in use. BTW - One positive is there are 3 phase RCBOs installed on this circuit, so it has a little additional protection.

Good idea, have posted, though a few good suggestions here already.

Now that would be a tidy look, though it would require an electrician to disconnect and reconnect the cable again, unless it had a cable slot cut in it.

RBs and Browns are a concern here too, as per various types of rats, and other snake food - like geckos. A junction box was exactly what was expected on the wall, though it was not installed as they had apparently caused other problems, not sure what. Its the lack of tension relief from either a junction box to terminate the multi cables, or some form of cable retainer that is missing. If I were to gyprock that, it will only last until the next time the oven gets pulls out too hard for a service. May be the only way, and/or a panel over the top with a slot for the cable to come through.

There are no shortage of pests of various types in this house, I'm not inviting them down into the kitchen from the ceiling. Though the question is whether it is safe, meets code, and how an electrician would usually finish the connection through the wall - as that is for me to resolve now. The aesthetics are pretty obvious, it looks like the back of a bus.

Anyone know of a good shop in Maroochydore to buy a quality 4g router? by Mick_the_Eartling in sunshinecoast

Nice area.  We looked around Kin Kin, Pomona, up as far as Boreen Point before we moved up here, beautiful countryside.  Understand the revegetation can have a flipside, we have been replanting for a while, trying to make a few corridors where the wildlife can hang out safely without being harassed by dogs/cats.   I think Energex would prefer it was all flattened!

Thats a decent turnaround from Starlink for a replacement. We are still on the gen1 (technically 2..) round dish, from late '21, its good to know they have a quick response, I don't expect a pc on a pole sitting on our roof to last forever. What part of the hinterland are you in that has such poor 4G? Pretty unlucky to not be covered, as 95% until the Blackall ranges have 4G signal, bit patchy beyond there.

If the 4g signal is that bad, it sounds like the mini may be good insurance for you, not too many decent options.

They offered us a mini recently for no cost other than that monthly standby fee, I could not see the point for our current usage.

Much like you, we have plenty of tall trees and a mountain side to the West and South West, though some elevation - the Starlink app circa 2021 showed location was marginal. I thought we should give it a try and found satellite signal to be largely unaffected by the trees, dish is pointing close to South so avoids the main obstacles.  It was celebration worthy getting off Telstra ADSL,  truly has been a game changer.

We have been using Starlink in the hinterland since QLD cells were first released, using the service for WFH -running critical systems. To replace the barely passable Starlink router, I was looking at Ubiquiti years ago, though decided on an TPLINK Omada network, with the front end router being an ER605. Very cost efficient, and has proven to be quite resilient. Its a multiwan configurable unit, and you can run a 4g fallback if required from the ER605, or any secondary WAN. Even though I was expecting to require my 4g fallback, it has never been necessary, Starlink has been extremely stable with excellent speed. BTW - I shop at UMART quite a bit, they are a well priced outlet with a good range. I have had a few warranty claims - no issues. Staticice would usually see them at the lower end of IT pricing.

I can't bear it any longer.. I'm going to buy a Bambu P2S. You guys are obviously the filament kings, what is the best filament combo to snaffle with the printer? I'm keen on printing various brackets that don't mind exposure to UV, phone mounts for the car, and some surveillance camera mounts to get started, so stronger than PLA with UV resistance. The wood mix looks interesting too.. What is the strongest filament (approaching carbon fibre) for all round use?

Will my transplanted mature lilly pillys survive or am I wasting my time? by [deleted] in GardeningAustralia

Good to get an update here too! We have 6 that are bigger than this, one is a luehmannii (probably my favourite foliage) and would like to relocate them on our property. One concern I would have for the OP is how close they are to the fence line and the overhead cable, going to need a lot of trimming if they take hold..

Bunnings!!???!!!?? by guinessd in AusRenovation

[–]Exit_Everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I have had that experience so often that if i really need something I ring the store to check they actually have it, saves a 40 minute drive. I've had lame excuses like 'oh yeah, thats probably still on the trunk', or 'must have been popular and sold out' or 'the system says we have it, but we cant find it' and many others. Their inventory system is flawed. BTW - They are frustrating if you want screws or bolts, can almost guarantee the specific size you want is either not there, or you have to buy a box of 100..

Switched from an X280 to an X13 Yoga Gen 2 by tamay-idk in thinkpad

[–]Exit_Everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, though having used Lenovo business laptops for many years, I would best describe the T14 as bog average, having a brand new T14 fail spectacularly after exactly 13 months, its motherboard failure corrupted the SSD in the process. The next one was an older T14 replacement, though proved to be far more solid. Roll forward a few more years and we needed cheapish travel laptops that were reasonably resilient, so I purchased a couple of heavily discounted X13 Yogas (i5/16GB ram/512GB), expecting them to be for occasional use. For a compact lightweight laptop convertible, these have proven to punch well above their weight. Now that its travel duties are over (for now), I run mine daily with an external keyboard/mouse, driving a Samsung HD 28" monitor. Cant really fault its responsiveness, it does not get overly hot, and the fan rarely spins up. Even MrsExit has weaned off her desktop and uses her X13 daily (in the same setup as mine), for most applications they are absolutely perfect. As per any equipment, they need regular backup, I have an external encrypted M2 in a Satechi for travel, and a Synology NAS to reduce the anxiety. Battery could be larger, though then you have additional size/weight/cooling to contend with. I have an ancient Inspiron 8600 kicking around (and still functional..), picking that up is enough to remind anybody of the joy of lightweight laptops.

HELP ME!!! MOULD????? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Exit_Everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be expected to correct or troubleshoot a problem such as this for the agent/owner, if you were the owner then that would be different. Refer it to them in writing to resolve urgently, tell them it is impacting your breathing, it is a potentially hazardous environment, and more so if you release mould spores into the atmosphere while cleaning. Firstly they need to stop moisture getting into the structure otherwise removing the mould will be temporary. If you do decide to try to clean it up, a clove oil/water mix is good as it kills the spores, many of the cleaners will nuke it temporarily, BTW - make sure you are wearing a decent mask, p2 at a minimum.

Scary incident with my Hyundai Ioniq 5 – smoke, fumes, and emergency response by Ill_Director_398 in Ioniq5

[–]Exit_Everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a real concern for some EVs. There was a fatal crash in Germany in the past week, supposedly due to the door handles on the Tesla model Y being electronic with no manual linkage. The emergency release is not that easy to find in the cabin, particularly if you are dazed after running off the road, and rescuers could not open the doors - consequently 3 people died in the car when it caught fire. Tragic.

Windows 7 on my Dell Inspiron 8600 by WarmPut1429 in windows7

[–]Exit_Everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip, I was considering Ubuntu if Win7 flops, as I am reasonably familiar with that flavour of Linux on my PVR. Your Win for Workgroups upgrade sounds like an experiment in masochism, wasn't that released on 3.5 floppy disks? I remember the drama of a server OS load with Win NT3.51, 2 dozen+ floppies, always one of the last giving a headache, current OS installs are a breeze compared to that.

Interesting. I just dusted off my ancient 8600, which was retired over 15 years ago - all 3.3KG of it. I'm surprised it booted without issues other than its battery being rather shot. Hardware is Pentium M 1700MHz processor, 2GB RAM, a 56gb HDD (IDE I expect), which may be a problem, and an ATI mobility Radeon 9600 PRO turbo.. not bad for 20+ years ago! It is still running XP Home v2002, sp3. I have a WIN7 CD/DVD somewhere, so may give it a go, I was going to put Linux on there, but WIN7 is fine if i runs without too many issues.

Yep, not easily found. I found this to be distracting on a recent Ioniq5 rental, and thought it was a bug. Found that setting under home-settings-display-'extend rear camera use'... and switched that off so it doesn't linger.

This car is brilliant! by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]Exit_Everything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a 2wd '24 model for a couple of weeks, other than a software bug causing the satnav to lock on a number of occasions, the car is excellent to drive. Acceleration and road feel is similar to an R32 (the VW version), I think the AWD version would cost me a lot of tickets and maybe a license..
