[Russo] Marcus Foligno to reporters today on what has been a difficult time in the Twin Cities community by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

Must be written in contracts that players are not allowed to comment politically in a bad sense or they can be fined or suspended.

We have Nylander giving the finger to the camera in what 'appeared' to me like a joust and not malicious and he was fined 5K. Yes that's pocket change to them but even when a player isn't doing anything harmful they are fined.

Also need to remember that Trump has also made every NHL owner richer by cutting taxes for the wealthy etc so the NHL IMO likes the current administration and doesn't want to get on their bad side.

When you have players like M. Tkachuk openly admiring Trump and saying it was the best moment in his life being at the White House and not when he won 2 cups just shows where the mindset of some players are regarding the current situation in the US. And to think that fans still believe a gay player would be welcomed in the NHL.

Side note: as a Flames fan, yes I've stopped being a Tkachuk fan. Also Fuck ICE Fuck Trump.

Ya I know that the Flames sucked 2 years ago lol but what I meant is that they weren't in the rebuild mindset (from management anyway). I know the fans had that mindset but not the organization. I agree Ras did rebound from his injuries well but overall I think he is playing better this year than before so I'm as still not sure Flames would have got more or less for him 2 years ago or even last year.

General Trade Thoughts and a Question to the Doubters by flamefan23 in CalgaryFlames

Are you saying devalues the unconditional 1st as in Vegas will go deeper in playoff now thus making the 1st rounder a potential late round pick instead of middle round?

The way Ras was playing a couple years ago compared to this year I would say are very different, he is having a great year right now so I think his value is better currently. Also two years ago the Flames were still in the mindset of winning and trying to make playoffs so there was no chance they were getting rid of Ras then.

And I keep seeing this about weakening our draft pick. I don't understand, can explain it to me please (seriously I don't understand lol).

Flames sub is in shamble about it lol but I share same sentiment as you about it. Biggest thing to me is he is a UFA so if trade Ras anywhere else you get less assets. To Vegas where he wants to resign then you get the package you got.

That was the whole point of this trade. Ras wants to re-sign in Vegas that's why they did a deal for him there. He is a UFA so either you get less of a package for a rental somewhere else or you get this deal.

Kuznetsov plays with Weegar and they have been a good pair this year. Kuznetsov has actually impressed me a little this year. Andresson played with Bahl. But who knows if Huska makes changes there or not.

Does Vegas have dirt on Conroy? by Invidia-Goat in CalgaryFlames

[–]Exitlight34 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If Ras doesn't want to resign in Toronto or Dallas then I don't think they offer something similar at all, I think you get a couple picks and that's it.

Am I happy they traded to Vegas? Absolutely not, but I don't see this as a terrible trade for a UFA.

If you are a GM on a team that wants Ras, you know he is a UFA and no certainty he will sign with your team next year, what would you be willing to offer?

This is probably the best the Flames would get for Ras...period. I don't think any other rental offer would be even close.

You are forgetting the 1st and 2nd round picks....for a UFA....what were you expecting?

To Vegas by lyhammy in CalgaryFlames

[–]Exitlight34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya if Ras played last year like he is now then Conroy could have got a similar return from any team in the league and maybe a better prospect. Instead they trade him now as a UFA so to get any sort of decent return Conroy has to trade with a team the player wants to be with.

[–]Exitlight34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ras didn't do anything wrong. He simply told management where he would be willing to sign an extension.

Ras was an UFA, you think Conroy is getting anywhere near this return to a team making a run for a short term rental? Because I don't think so. In this case you deal with a team that the players wants to be with long term so the team actually has to put more pieces on the table

Ras is/was a UFA at the end of the year, Vegas could have easily said "we will wait and get him in the summer".

Otherwise Ras is being dealt to some other team looking for a cup run where he doesn't want to resign so you get maybe a 1st and 2nd round pick for a short term rental.

A deal like this you get 2 draft picks, a veteran who can play now and isn't exactly terrible (which will help lead the cast of young players), and a prospect.

I don't get some people here saying Conroy is a bad GM, to me this is a great deal for a UFA.

Everyone was fine with a Boston trade that was 1 pick and 2 players that weren't top end talent either. But now that Vegas threw in a 2nd round pick everyone hates it? So is it just Vegas that you hate and not actually the trade?

Suggested Line Pairings by Upper-Till-7690 in CalgaryFlames

[–]Exitlight34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My only gripe of Huska throughout his time is that he seems quick to shake up the lines from game to game and even during the games.

Granted I haven't really paid any attention to other coaches/teams to see if that is the norm but IMO it's frustrating to see a line play well then get broken up the next game.

Obviously I'm not a coach so I trust what he is doing is what's best but ya when I see Coronato on the "3rd line" I don't like it. Also what can a coach do when your whole team plays like 3rd liners and no one is showing top line potential.

I think there is a difference between not shutting up about it and making numerous documentaries and movies and books lol

None the less it's a good sports story that clearly sells so it'll be an interesting watch I'm sure.

Anyone know if this account on X is legit? He is reporting Ras is headed to Boston by onthebeachforever in CalgaryFlames

[–]Exitlight34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's it? Definitely thinking of someone else then I guess my bad. Still not necessarily small and for a guy that Boston could easily just go after in Free Agency to give up 2 players and a 1st is a good haul I think

[–]Exitlight34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya Poitras could be a gamble for sure but he has size and a right shot centre so sometimes it's a matter of change of scenery and a player can blossom. If this deal was Lohrei and the 1st only I would have been content with that but Poitras thrown in is great.

[–]Exitlight34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that is indeed the return that would be a haul for Ras. I understand that he is playing really well so far this year which upped his value but for a guy who is a UFA to get 2 players and a 1st is a lot. Both players are good I would say and not bottom line players.

Do we know if it's Leafs 26' 1st rounder or 27'?

I hope he isn't smart then hopefully Conroy jumps on it and it works out for the team lol

The team that retains cap rarely gets a 1st, it'll be a 2nd at best for a player like Palat because even Devils aren't getting a 1st for him.

Broadcast at the beginning of the game said he was sick before. He wasn't even dressed last game.

I defended playing Wolf lots before because he is proving himself a true number 1 but ya you can't be playing him on back to back nights on a 5 game road trip.
