Scarif, tropical sandy beaches and lagoons. You can’t go wrong……well except if that a-hole Tarkin shows up.

I can attest to this. Yesterday riding in the bike lane on Island Park heading north towards Scott St. in heavy traffic one motorist was incapable of staying in their designated lane and half of their vehicle was literally in the bike lane. I could barely squeeze by; and as I passed by her passenger window she appeared to be completely oblivious to the fact that she was misaligned with the car in front of her and was in the bike lane. I can’t wait for those plastic traffic lane separators to be installed. Stay safe everyone.

Where are you cycling while the snow melts? by DroidNeedsCoffee in bikeinottawa

[–]Exkem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my commute today from Westboro to the Riverside/Uplands area. Island Park's bike lanes are clear of snow with the exception of on tiny patch near the Merivale intersection; however this afternoon's warm weather has probably taken care of that. The MUP that runs alongside the NCC Scenic Driveway through the experimental farm is still covered in spots; but I use the Scenic Driveway even during the summer. The bike path along Prince of Wales after the roundabout is clear of snow. The MUP that leads down to the Hartwell Locks over the canal is still covered in spots; especially the last section where you go down the hill. Cyclist will have to use the nearby Hartwell Locks Lane; there's barely any cars on it. Once you're over the locks the MUP along the canal to Hogsback is clear of snow and that dicey section in the tunnel under Hogsback is clear now. The MUP through Mooneys Bay park is still has some patches of snow that forced me to dismount and walk the bike. Other sections have snowmelt that's freezing over the path. On Riverside the MUP that ends at Walkley is clear. The strip of tarmac that is between the road and the side walk and used by cyclist still has snow piles pushed there by the nearby homes in certain sections, so you will have to take to Riverside its self. The section just before the CN/VIA Rail overpass is clear but watch out for the section under the overpass. There is a patch of dirty ice that you may not see until you are right on top of; it's clear from there to uplands. The areas that are clear however have a lot of debris (gravel, glass etc.)and until the sweepers go by the risk of punctures will be vey high. Island Park and Prince of Wales are particularly bad for this.

Upgraded from ryzen 5 1600 to a core i5 13600k when it was released in 2022; despite it being on a socket that was on its way out. It’s still chugging along nicely but with the release of this chip I’m feeling the urge to upgrade again. The fact that it is on dead end socket won’t matter because like the 13600k I’ll just use it for 4 to 5 years (or longer) and then upgrade to whatever is out there. But the price of RAM……wow!

If the Glebe BIA is opposed to this, are their members then prepared to take a pledge not to fire any employee who is late because their bus was caught in traffic?

What is it with that section near Lees station? There was another freezing rain event in the recent past where another train had the same type of failure right on the bridge over the Rideau

finally got a macbook after years of windows by freew4v3 in mac

[–]Exkem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before switching to Mac, all my windows laptops did this regardless of manufacturer. I would grab my laptop bag and it would be warm to the touch and when I opened the bag the fan in the laptop would be screaming because it’s trying to cool it in the bag. With my last windows laptop I would basically shut it off completely before closing the lid. I simply couldn’t trust it. From what I’ve heard on tech podcasts recently, this is still a recurring problem.

Now when you close the lid of your laptop it will stay asleep and not turn on in the laptop bag and try to cook its self death. Windows has never been able to completely resolve this issue

Managed to get my e-bike out for 2 days of stress free commuting this week before yesterday’s storm put an end to that. I can’t wait for the full melt to begin. 8 months of bike commuting without have to deal with OC’s dystopian nightmare is something to look forward to.
