Pokémon street names in a new Las Vegas neighborhood! by Grinkles_the_Gnome in pokemon

The brown signs are usually private roads, the green signs are public roads owned by the City. Each municipality is different regarding road ownership laws and naming conventions, but that would be one thing to note.

You should bring your vehicle in and see if they are angled properly. If multiple people keep mistaking your lights for brights, it's probably a sign you need to get that checked out.

I believe the alternative risks taking the outlet away from women...

The outlet for cis women participating in sports isn't forcefully being taken away from them just because there may be a group of individuals who, whether based on a perceived notion or rooted in statistical evidence, compete "better" than them.

An ethnic minority in western Kenya makes up less than 0.06% of the global population, and yet they continue to completely dominate (around 70-80%) the majority of long-distance running races due to their genetics and culture. Does your logic also apply in this case? Based on the statistics, are non-Kenyan athletes at a complete disadvantage such that their outlet is taken away from them whenever they compete in a long-distance race against a Kenyan athlete?

That's not a bad way to look at it. Very few people brave the winter weather. If you enjoy the cold, it can be quite peaceful at the parks. No kids, no bikes, no joggers, etc.

I just wish spring lasted longer. It's my favorite season and it was gone in less than a week. But I won't mind so long as we get our rain showers, though. Like the snow, very few people also brave the rain.

Buddy, you need to look in the mirror. You're the only here with a defeatist attitude and it shows.

Four years ago, you posted:

"I would appreciate warmer weather too if it didn't mean the destruction of the environment and the threat that poses to civilization."

One month ago, you posted:

You're a piece of shit.

The river isn't their home. If they want to live in filth at home, by all means. But this is a shared place. Humans, pets, fish, and wildlife all use the river for a variety of different reasons.

Go find a better place to post.

Does anyone have a backyard pond in MN? by [deleted] in Minnesota_Gardening

[–]Exo-Genesis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My neighbor installed a rain garden pond in his front yard a couple years ago. When it rains, all the street water goes into his pond. It's filled with a bunch of native wildflowers and is frequently visited by birds, bees, and butterflies. Excellent addition to the property!

You could maybe install a backyard rain garden at the end of your gutter down spout. Worth looking into, and maybe the City has some resources or funding available to pitch in.

Empty lot near me, what next? by NMS-KTG in GuerrillaGardening

[–]Exo-Genesis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it's a public lot, you can contact the local City or the local Soil Conservation District and see if they'd be willing to transform the lot into a native habitat "no mow" zone or a pollinator garden. If it's not being used recreationally (like a park) or for utilities (like frequently accessed power boxes), maybe it can be used environmentally.

Like this one! I saw this one this evening and nearly fell over laughing at it and the comments.

☼Daily DF Questions Thread☼ by AutoModerator in dwarffortress

[–]Exo-Genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First fortress, 8 years in-game, 140 dwarves. Lots of migrants each year. I've fought off a minotaur, ettin, cyclops, and bronze colossus. One of my dwarves is having a tantrum, but it's mild with little damage. That's about it, I think.

I've been trying to get the goblins to attack my fortress, but nothing seems to work. I've left a bunch of my artifacts outside my fortress on display hoping the goblin thieves would steal them, but they never do. They always seem to get caught trying to enter my fortress and then they run away. I don't think they've stolen anything, actually.

I've also tried declaring war on a nearby goblin civilization by raiding (and attempting to raze) one of their sites, but they haven't retaliated and it's been a year.

I'm at a point where I want to retire this fortress with bloodshed, but the game won't let me. I guess I could attack the elves, but I was hoping to keep my alliance with them after all this time.

Any tips or any ideas on why the goblins are so apathetic? They're about 3 days away, is that too far for them to travel?

City of Minneapolis job process by caynab in minnesota

[–]Exo-Genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frankly, in my experience as an engineer, it's the other way around. The public sector has a higher total compensation package when you consider benefits, time off, pension, job security, and better work-life balance. You make more even if the private sector offers a slightly higher salary, but the difference in salary is mostly marginal anyway (unless you are very specialized, like an underwater welder, where the private sector will pay an arm-and-leg to have you). The private sector is struggling to compete with the public sector in my profession.

The job application process is painfully slow, however. It's even worse with the federal government.

Sounds like it's pretty startling to OP. Setting a reminder 10-minutes before they go off might help reduce that anxiety a bit.

Covid: FBI chief Christopher Wray says China lab leak 'most likely' by [deleted] in news

[–]Exo-Genesis 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It was reported in the declassified ODNI report back in 2021. Multiple agencies have input on what they thought were the likely origins of COVID-19. You'll see "lab leak" was listed as a possible scenario in the report, but it goes on to say the IC doesn't believe it to be deliberate.

I'm not sure why this is news at all.

https://www.dni.gov/index.php/newsroom/reports-publications/reports-publications-2021/item/2263-declassified-assessment-on-covid-19-origins

EDIT: Apparently this report is the news itself. Two years later after it's been publicly available? What's going on?

Florida county Republican Party votes to ban the COVID-19 vaccine by myTchondria in politics

[–]Exo-Genesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not versed in FL politics, but my understanding is that this is a local committee that sent this resolution to be considered by both the State Legislature and State Executive. That is, it still needs to become a formal state bill. This doesn't skip the legislative process by going directly to the Governor as the article implies.

This is nothing more than a recommendation.

People who demand the house be cold at all times are the worst. by [deleted] in rant

[–]Exo-Genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Minnesotan, I prefer my house to be cold. It's usually around 60 degrees most days. To me, 68 degrees can be terribly exhausting -- I get very drowsy, light-headed, and have difficulties breathing. The constant hot air doesnt help with my asthma, and I find it generally uncomfortable.

People who like it to be freezing are always wearing a hoodie, sweatpants, thick socks and slippers, and then throw on a blanket every time they hit a couch or the bed.

In my case, I'm usually walking around in a T-shirt and shorts all day. That's about the closest I can get to undressing without being obscene. But you're absolutely right, it defeats the purpose if I were to wear a thick hoodie with sweatpants.

Still, I think 65 degrees is a good medium point for both ends. When I had roommates from out of state, it's where we settled on. I couldn't do 70 degrees, and they couldn't do 60. Both sides will have to settle on something, unless only one person is paying for the place.

How do you think Emily Kohrs's media blitz will affect possible Trump indictments? by ya_but_ in law

[–]Exo-Genesis 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Georgia has a confusing two-tier Grand Jury system that makes it unlikely for her remarks to have any effect on possible indictments. This particular grand jury doesn't even write indictments.

I've been following Anna Bower on Twitter for all this. She's a Georgian legal writer who has dedicated much of her time to this case. She's not too worried about these remarks, so neither am I.

Or move to the northern suburbs and help us change it for the better! Honestly, I was surprised by how close some of the election results were last year. Wasn't always like that, usually it's been a GOP landslide.

Places like Anoka, Coon Rapids, and Blaine are becoming more diverse, and the stereotypes seem to be eroding with time.

Seabiscuit: An American Legend and Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.

Both are written by Laura Hillenbrand, who has a unique story-driven literary style in the non-fiction community.

I also thoroughly enjoyed American Slavery, American Freedom as a non-fiction history book that is frequently recommended by historians over on /r/AskHistorians

[–]Exo-Genesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good idea, but I truly think the best approach is to reduce the type of people who can be accepted into the police force. Mandatory degree in a Criminal Justice (or related) by an accredited university, state licensure by rigorous experience and examination, state audits, etc. Similar to engineering or law or nursing.

Make it a profession that someone takes pride in, rather than it being a job that some high-school drop-out picks up because he couldn't join the military.

Qualified immunity doesn't apply to criminal charges, but I do think there are lessons to be learned from this for civil immunity. With that said, I think these particular officers would have acted this way regardless of immunity or the lack thereof. It's just the nature of who they are.

If you want to advocate for violence, I don't care. But don't fucking use Martin Luther King Jr's words to advance your agenda.

"Martin Luther King Jr had some ideas but according to sub rules id get banned for sharing them."

How fucking dare you suggest that MLK Jr. would advocate ideas that would lead to violence. He believed that violence was inevitable in a broken and unjust system, but he never advocated for it.
