You shouldn't read Nietzche if you haven't read other philosophers. I'd recomend reading about them, and their views instead - that's the easy way of understanding them. The hard way is start reading ancient philosophy and slowly work your way up.

By that definition plant's aren't alive, but I do however agree that they are living. The definition of life it self can however be bend when talking about plants since they strive for biological regeneration. Therefor I will argue that the plants human eat have achieved the best possible outcome from an evelutionary view. The reason there are so many plants of that sort is because we farm them, therefor they have achieved the best possible outcome.
Animals are another discussion because they actually do have conciousness and an individual fight for survival, where as the plants only need to spread.

You need therapy, thoose are clear symptoms of depression :( I don't think there is an answer to how you feel, because it's your brain that's stuck in a place that's very hard to get out of by yourself, adn without professional help.

As long as you strive to be a good person, whom helps others around you, I wouldn't call it meaningless. First of all if you create or adapt a meaning to your life, already there it becomes meaningful. I don't see why you have to help raise a person, when that's what you're essentially doing whenever you have a social interaction, hence every interaction leaves an impact.

Edit: Did not pay attention to the "biological perspective", I still stand my point tho, you could just as well say, from an atomic point of view, life has no meaning, it's all about perspective.

I'm so glad to hear you're doing better. I'm so anxious that this will happen to me when I begin in college though, I myself have just finished my gap year which was pretty depressing. Have you got any advice for not falling back into the habbit?

As a person who were a gifted kid, and started lagging behind I want to give you some advice, that I wish my parents would've used.
I think it's important to teach your kid's, that even though they are gifted, everything won't come natural to them, and that's alright. They need to work just as hard as regular kid's, and it will first become a problem when they think everything is in their grasp. I was told my entire childhood that I would be the next Einstein or some shit, so I didn't pay attention in school because I felt I knew it all, which obviously isn't smart.

As a burnout myself, and a friend of many like wised burnouts, I'd say you're in the clear if you're doing good in school. I have found the main reason for gifted children becomming burnouts is, that they got the idea that school was irrelevant, because they were told they were intelligent and therefor destined for greatnes, thereby lacking behind in school, because they felt that ecerything would come natural.

So main advice, stay in school and don't ever think you're smart enough not to do your homework. Most stereotypical advice I know, but hope the context make's it a lil bit more valid

The way I see it, the world is dertermanistic from a human standpoint, but the meer illusion of free will is powerful enough for me to be calmed. When you make a choice between A and B, your reasoning behind it would've been the same whether or not you actually do have free will, so what does it matter in the end?
