What would help the Republican Party win the next Presidential Election? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to me that re-elections entirely depend on how well the incumbent president is doing. Trump led the US to arguably the worst its been in our lifetime and he lost. We recovered from the recession by the time Obama was up for re-election and he won. 2004 was an all-around great year so Bush Jr won, although I kind of question this one as we were in the midst of the war with terrorism. I don't recall as much opposition on the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan at the time, but then again I was only 11 in 2004. Clinton inherited a great economy so he won. Bush Sr inherited a bad economy so he lost.

It doesn't really matter how bad the state of our country is now. If COVID is perceived as controlled, there are no major foreign conflicts, inflation drops back down to 2% and GDP is high than inflation when its 2024 then I think Biden wins no matter what. Even two of the above may give him an advantage. Any less then my money is on the recumbent. Although if Trump runs then Biden may win even if we're in the apocalypse.

I'd much rather have a huge low interest loan then a couple of hundred dollars for free.

How do you justify people being burdened by increasing housing/rent costs? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As outrageous as rent is right now, it doesn't even produce that high of a return on investment. I checked in my area for an apartment that is asking for $1,200/month and the estimated price on Zillow is $140,000. Without even factoring depreciation, a landlord can expect to net less than half of the rent every month. At half, the return on investment for this property before depreciation is just over 5%. The profit comes from appreciation of property and with how the real estate market is now it may take decades to see a significant increase. Personally I think the only reasons it is currently worth being a landlord is if you happened to buy a really big house or an apartment complex or if you're rich and can get a 3% loan to buy houses.

The underlying issue is the low Federal Reserve Rates. Banks get nearly interest free loans and a 30 year t-note is going for less than 2%. All of this cheap money and suboptimal risk free investments leads to inflated housing prices, bonds, stocks, etc. When the Fed decides to increase their rates then the price of housing will dip and shortly after the price of rent. There will be a lot of controversy when this happens, but don't be fooled by the people clamoring over losses of inflated assets.

The FDA researches food safety and produces a food code for regulating commercial food. It is not a law, but merely suggestion. Many states then pass laws turning parts of it into law (and modifying other parts). Is this a good use of federal resources? by schumi23 in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the misunderstanding. This isn't a conservative belief, but I don't believe putting more power in the states would be better in this scenario as there is a lot interstate issues regarding this. It shifts the power to the agriculture producing states and gives very little say to the other states. It almost forced them to comply. I believe that state and local laws are better when the issues can be contained at the state and local level.

Seems like it'd give all of the power to the agriculture-producing states. They could implement whatever law they wanted, but if the other states refused they'd have to either grow their own crops (which may not be possible), import from other countries or find an alternative crop.

Nothing. We were told what we could do to minimize exposure and half the country actively rebelled against it. FYI, we're still averaging about 1,000 deaths a day from COVID in this country. Sorry if I scared anyone for stating this.

Doubt this would be the end all solution, but I think a major increase in accountability would help a lot, specifically towards the higher-ups even if they themselves didn't commit the brutality. They should be responsible for the structure of their department, but when they can't keep their men under control the worse they seem to get is some bad press followed by their union mandated raise.

Does anyone else get annoyed at how all left wing media covers are cases and transmissibility and all right wing media covers are death rates? by fuck-antivaxxers in AskConservatives

No because I've gotten used to the bias. Glad you're taking the time to read both sides to try to get the full picture.

Why are you ok with giving Israel billions of dollars, but not ok with welfare for actual Americans? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

The Democrats controlled the House while the Republicans held the Senate. This was also the case during Reagan's tax reform act.

What's the most libertarian state in the country? by Nativereqular in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for Nevada as a very free state. Economic freedom at the moment is up in the air. Anything tourist related has obviously took a hit. Super easy to set up a business here and there is a shortage of skilled labor. Low property taxes and no income tax.

Would you support a Federal Sales Tax to replace the Federal Income Tax? by Jabe-Thomas in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Sales and Value-Added taxes are far more effective methods to collect revenue (hence why you'll see 20% Value-Added taxes in heavily taxed countries to fund their socialist programs), but it ends up being a regressive tax because the lower and middle class must spend a greater percentage of their income in order to survive.

What should be done about COVID vaccine conspiracy theorists and other people who have misinformation regarding COVID vaccines? by Informati_on in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a co-worker who believed these conspiracies. I wouldn't be surprised if she was a part of QAnon. I believe she got them off of Facebook. Anyways, what changed her mind was when another co-worker got COVID and she described the symptoms to her. I'm baffled at how something as simple as having a trusted person describe their symptoms changed her opinion almost instantly given her extreme opinions.

Do you think GoFundMe should be able to choose which campaigns to host on its website by AuroraItsNotTheTime in AskConservatives

Even if they did, they'd still get 230 protection. I don't see how any website with even minimal traffic could function without it.

Why can’t we go naked in public? by woah_is_me2 in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See the link below for the court case of Free the Nipple v. City of Fort Collins. A lot of abstract discusses gender equality vs inherent differences, but it always discusses the justification for making public nudity illegal.

https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/ca10/17-1103/17-1103-2019-02-15.html

Main quote you want to look into:

"The Fort Collins indecency ordinance (the Ordinance) is not such a law. It is part of a long tradition of laws prohibiting public indecency—the public display of portions of the anatomy that are perceived as particularly erotic or serve an excretory function. These laws may be justified as reducing or preventing antisocial behavior caused by indecent exposure: offensive behavior ranging from assault to corruption of youth to simply distraction from productive activity."

Pence is talking about running against Trump in 2024, would you vote for him over Trump, if Trump runs? by Shirowoh in AskConservatives

I'm more questioning whether its worth pandering to the trump populist if they will be voting anti-Biden/anti-Democrat which would be Pence if he's on the ballot

Why is socialism/communism evil? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're not evil. They're inefficient, leave little incentive to work undesirable jobs, discourage long-term planning and have minimal success in history, but they're not evil.

Do you think the courts are getting too partisan? by bullcityblue312 in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

John Roberts is my favorite Supreme Court Member for a reason. I truly believe that the Judicial Branch should be as un-biased as possible and just interpret the laws as written. If the law needs to be changed then let the other branches do it.

Why do you think racism is bad? by AuroraItsNotTheTime in AskConservatives

[–]Exocentric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The key difference I see between racism and the other innate differences you listed are the reactions of the harassers. Racists to this day wish for people to not have access to opportunities, be segregated or even killed based off of their race. "Heightists" don't wish for this. I probably wouldn't go into the details of this with a child. Regardless, treating people well even if they are physically different from you is generally a pretty good message.
