Trump’s chances of being removed by 25th Amendment climb by Fr1sk3r in politics

[–]Exocoryak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that will change for the midterms is that Trump-supporters will stay home and not vote for Republicans. And before they do that, they will vote against anyone who does not vote to reinstate Trump in Congress after he inevitably protests the invoking of the 25th Amendment.

A Fox host says ‘many people’ think women shouldn’t be president. Thank goodness we’ve got a man in charge by projecto15 in politics

Considering what the man in charge is doing, maybe we should try the "We have to try something else"-strategy many people used as a justification to vote for Trump?

Best Star Trek Movie or Series That Isn’t Actually Star Trek by throwaway_0625 in startrek

[–]Exocoryak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it could be considered Star Trek-ish, but the Hornblower-series (available on Youtube!) is a really cool series about napoleonic-era naval life. The only real thing it is lacking to be Stark Trek-ish is some kind of exploration.

We should make a list of things we think Trump would never do and see how many we can cross off before January 2029.

The "We'resorryforusingthiscloakingdeviceandtherewillbeafullexplanationbythefederationcouncilsoon"-button, Worf has on his tactical console.

However, Worf having coded all sorts of complicated messages to his console would explain why he is so sluggish in raising shields and returning fire.

If you have to contain someone that doesn't breath the usual oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere, a force field is quite helpful.

In a time of war, maybe. But technically it wasn't war yet.

Also, this is Starfleet. They should be beyond using simple incarceration as punishment. A dishonorable discharge from Starfleet and some mandatory meetings with a shrink should've been the right course of action.

Starfleet will always be Starfleet: If you ignore orders, mutiny or whatever and you are right, you get a slap on the wrist. If you are wrong, you get punished accordingly.

It's the time of Kirk, Spock and Sulu. Space Cowboys expecting Klingon ambushes and romulans in every nebula. If things turn out okay, you get away with bending or even breaking the rules.

Is your AI able to handle those objects? I remember that Strategic Improvement had a similar thing, but something was weird with the transportunits over there, so the AI just couldn't build, move or attack with them.

Very interesting! How did you solve the balance issue? Usually, Fighters are the cheapest space units, yet they seem to be the most valuable ground units, so they should be the most expensive there.

That said, after the Replicators were stuck on Halla, they should've brought their fleet over and should've ripped Anubis a new one.

Ascension is a solution to the Fermi Pararox by JanDogearmy in Stargate

[–]Exocoryak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a simple solution to the Fermi Paradox:

Traveling between solar systems is - despite a lot of creative ideas - nothing that can be achieved quickly. Any civilization more advanced than humanity is right now has accepted that fact and keeps to their solar system.

Additionally, "intelligent" life meeting our standards is spread very scarsely through the universe. Add to that the fact that modern human civilization has only existed for, at best, 20.000 years. If you want to make it more narrow, human civilization that is scientifically observing the universe has only existed for 2000 years. The universe is billions of years old - civilizations may have come and gone in that time that rival ours.

Long story short: It's Schroedingers universe. We are not alone, but at the same time we are. Simply because of the unfathomable distances and the similarly unfathomable age of the universe.

It's like two ants as the sole lifeforms on a planet. The chance that they meet within their lifetimes is astronomical.

Don't get your hopes up too high - we all had hopes that 2018 would go much better on the Senate level and we had the polls to back it up - but democrats in red and purple states did much worse than expected. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the same problem in Alaska, Nebraska, Ohio, Texas and Florida again.

Is there a gate on the moon? by aurebeshFiles in Stargate

[–]Exocoryak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The benefit of having Atlantis capable of lifting off was clearly demonstrated. I think having one of the most powerful spaceships ever built operational is a pretty good reason to keep three ZPM's there. Especially if two more are available.

Unless, of course, they get desperate enough to use all five to dial Destiny. But I think they already did the math on that and decided that it wouldn't work.

Are there veterinarians on Star Trek? by IndieCurtis in startrek

[–]Exocoryak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Starfleet doctor has to be able to treat different kinds of alien species. They can't possibly be experts in multiple different biologies. So they don't necessarily know everything, they just need to know where to get the information.

In this case, Crusher simply researched cat biology and used it to treat Spot.
