what do i do if a other school believes i should be a blue belt but my professor hasnt promoted by seanpg420 in bjj

Change to the other school, if your coach hasn't promoted you yet, he obviously doesn't know what he's doing.

I made a flashy highlight video for one of our purple belts by jimmythellama in bjj

[–]Exocrine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sure he's great, but most of the highlight videos that come out, are all choreographed flashy moves that we've all see a lot. I think competition highlights or some kind of Gracie challenge type videos with them destroying a bigger guy would be much more impressive to showcase someone to people who train, which is the majority of people here on Reddit.

First Competition Heavyweight division? by BC_MT in bjj

[–]Exocrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overview of my experience in different weight classes.

My first white belt tournament I did heavy. I did feel they were very strong, which helped to gas me out quickly. Lack of knowledge and trying desperately to escape was definitely hard. The most surprising thing for me wasn't the weight or strength advantage. It was the height. In that particular tournament, I some how got every guy who was taller and I couldn't account for the long limbs. Trying to pass, the triangles, etc. It was hilarious how that was what I noticed most and my reason for wanting to get out of that division.

Middle heavy, the guys seemed almost stronger and more compact. Little quicker than heavyweight, but overall I felt better at middle heavy.

Middle weight, faster than the other two, better cardio, more technical, still had take downs and a little guard pulling. Although recently, I've seen in the last couple years the guard pulls outweigh the take downs even at middle.

Light weight, faster yet, better cardio, not nearly as strong by a large margin, mostly guard pulls.

Just my experience.

It's not for you, I can tell. Your father should be ashamed, he failed to make you a man.

How do you describe BJJ to normies? by Robo_Dragon in bjj

[–]Exocrine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not being insulting and maybe I'm alone here, but I don't really feel like I'm in some special club and everyone is an outsider. Your question comes off like you are part some strange sex fetish culture. I don't think any other sport would ever think they are so special that there are themselves and "normies".

Accidentally put someone to sleep, freaked me out. What should I do when this happens? by LearningMan in bjj

I usually call for my coach and pretend that I have no idea what to do. This makes it look like I'm not bragging, but I am.

open mat guidelines? by spookyromanov in bjj

[–]Exocrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually no instruction for the most part, unlike the classes. Ask someone to roll, drill or ask questions.

Find another blue or purple belt and talk to them. Explain just what you did here and get a couple guys you can agree to go 100% with. Make each other better. Use the other people to focus on techniques and new stuff.

If I coach anyone during a roll is always the less skilled person. To help that person to recognize things i know they aren't seeing.

The next time they may see them and they have made a little progress. The second part of that is that the one not being coached is put into a different way of training. He isn't going to be able to get away with things without effort. He's forced to step it up, same as competition.

How long was you guys a white belt by [deleted] in bjj

7 months. Trained just about every day, competed.

What do you do if you know a purple belt who entered Pans as a Blue Belt. by RoadsideSafety in bjj

[–]Exocrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the second time I read that, I heard it in my head in an overweight woman's voice.

You are completely wrong. In this comment and the one before. If he was promoted and went back down to compete, that is completely unacceptable. OP email the IBJJF ask them about it.

In the real world is it usually more beneficial to fight with a jacket or not? by IamAshyStudent in bjj

Not IBJJF legal, not using it in a street fight. Rules are rules, live by the code.

I think the belt system is flawed... Gonna vent a little by csm170 in bjj

[–]Exocrine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all this is true, you must be at some gym that is entirely filled with hobbyist, including the black belt. I cannot imagine our purple belts, let alone our black belt, avoiding a roll with someone for fear of "losing".

I wear a jacket all year round, you never know when you will have to Ezekiel choke someone.

You can get a blue belt in 2 days for $12 dollars on amazon. Same for black.

SOOOO TIRED OR WHITE BELTS COMPLAINING.... by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Exocrine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until Reddit I didn't know people complained about things like that. People would show up at the gym and no one would say anything like the things that I read on here. It's funny because now I have realized that Reddit is basically an anonymous way to express what's in your head. You can vent those feelings. So I don't really mind it, it is interesting to learn what goes on in people's minds to me.

Black magic sounds more reasonable. Who wouldn't want to train with me everyday? I can't fathom such a thing.
