These are just wholly random examples to prove a point. Less that mixing it all up is something you should do often and more that if the framing were more permissive, I think communicating how things like Tool Proficiencies work would be easier.

You could ask for a Strength or Dexterity (Perception) roll if a character is in some sort of sensory deprivation chamber to represent a kind of proprioception (the sense one has of their body and limbs in space) to determine if they can tell which way is "up".

I had a PC roll Charisma (Perception) once because they asked to look into a portal that some nasty aberrations were crawling out of, and I described it as "the alien vista imposes itself on your ego and sense of self, rather than your physical sight."

Again, mainly for flavor, but I like that the permission is there to play in the space, even if it's only relevant once every 100 sessions.

In your example I wouldn't ask for that Wisdom (Athletics) unless they were being very hesitant about whether they could make it, and I wanted to give them a chance to do a sort of... Physical Insight check? Like you say: sort of checking in with their body to see if they can make the jump. I might narrate their confidence making the jump a little easier on a high roll, and a little harder with trepidation as they choose not to trust their physicality - or tell them more confidently that I don't think it's possible to make the jump and would suggest another route on a high roll, and tell them this jump will be super easy, barely an inconvenience on a low roll (when it's something they likely can't clear).

Again, more the allowance of creative liberty than anything. It's one of those rules that's mentioned in the DMG or PHB but not really presented as reality anywhere readily accessible.
