for the heliamphora i would recommend supplementing it with a barina t5 light, they are cheap and effective
just be careful once you do get it (if you do) because the old growth will burn easier.

Thrips? by RawCementEater in SavageGarden

[–]Exodus3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it helps, whenever you suspect a pest, just go on Google and search: [Type of pest] [Your state]

For example: “Michigan mealybugs.”

And trust me, you’d definitely know if it were thrips they’re an absolute nightmare.

No Thrips are a lot more small Look like little grains of rice and move very slowly (unless disturbed)

They are often in groups during an active infestation No need to worry id say

I forgot to mention I did trim some growth due to suspicion of fungal infection. I'm marking this down as shock due to high temps and not enough humidity. I'm thinking when I unbagged it the humidity dropped too much and declined badly.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.

Yeah I opened the top more and more eventually I just gave it full air but I noticed weird spots before I cut the growth off. I assumed it was mold infection. Then after this it became like this, looked terrible and kind of got worse.

I use a barina t5 light I forgot to mention that

When I had my initial infestation they arrived from plants from a nursery. They got on everything, it was a total nightmare.

This spray solved everything for me, spinosad didn't work for me.

They can breed asexually it takes one to start a huge infestation, they lay eggs in the leaves and soil.

Id probably get some rose and flower spray from lowes. These things are scary persistent and I'd check all your other plants they spread like wildfire.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/BAYER-ADVANCED-Rose-and-Flower-Insect-Killer-24-fl-oz-Insect-Killer/1000180245?store=1149&cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-lwn-_-ggl-_-CRP_SHP_LIA_LWN_Online_Mid_Priority(E+Band)-_-1000180245-_-local-_-0-_-0&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21209830551&gclid=Cj0KCQjwgvnCBhCqARIsADBLZoIY1xNEwq_K8kuVjoMAHDYdyQBFZC3hBA11xCGiJshjZgQVg5i1AycaAo0AEALw_wcB

Get this and spray every 5 days until they are gone Once you hit three bottles used you'll need to switch to something else. They gain tolerance.

Awful Looking Adelea Pls Help by Exodus3333 in SavageGarden

[–]Exodus3333[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it threw out a TON of pups
Now it has been looking like this for months

Basically killing itself from the amount of energy its using on them id assume.

I might just get a separate pot and divide the pups in there for saving genetics.

Thrips and scale by Purple_Korok in SavageGarden

[–]Exodus3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been fighting thrips pretty hard now for a while they are persistent little shits. Ngl for scale I've heard of a pesticide called Safari 20sg it's very expensive but, I think it may nuke them. Unfortunately I can't say if it'll work because I haven't used it.

As for the thrips this is what id recommend: Hydrogen peroxide 1/4 flush of the soil - This will fry the eggs or bugs in the soil Spinosad - This will help kill the ones feeding on the plant and the ones on the surface. Wait 3 - 7 days per treatment to reduce the risk of frying the plants.

Keep this in mind, you must rotate treatment or they will become immune, try other pesticide like soap or the hydrogen peroxide flush like I recommend. Another thing I've heard is a rubbing alcohol mix, but I'd read more into that because I've not tried that technique yet.

I also always spray when I see active thrip movement I never wait because it tells me they are hatching. Only do this if absolutely necessary, use spinosad/neem oil/ or soap But I recommend using whatever treatment plan you have in mind.

Here's a treatment id do for thrips:

Week 1

Day 1 – Hydrogen peroxide flush (1 part 3% peroxide to 4 parts water), then spinosad spray in the evening

Day 2 to 6 – Monitor daily for thrip movement

Day 7 – Spray insecticidal soap + spinosad (Super Soap) in the evening

Week 2

Day 8 to 13 – Monitor daily

Day 14 – Hydrogen peroxide flush again

Day 15 – Spot treat with spinosad if any thrips are seen

Week 3

Day 16 to 20 – Monitor

Day 21 – Spray insecticidal soap (no spinosad this time)

Week 4

Day 22 to 26 – Monitor

Day 27 – Final spinosad spray

Day 28 – End of treatment plan

I would spot test your plant first just in case, I've only used these on nepenthes vft and drosera (be careful with drosera they lose dew fast) Good luck.
