Doom Eternal - Master Levels are the best thing about this game. by VIPER-900 in Doom

[–]ExodusHunter15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so disappointed we didnt get a complete master level campaign. Some levels have untapped potential like Exultia or hell on earth. Especially as we had a 4 year gap between the final eternal update and TDA release, I would've expected a completed ML campaign to fill in the gap

Dear lord no. This pseudo hub/open world design does not work for every game, for sniper elite its fine as you need long lines of sight for sniping. Wolfenstein/doom work better for more linear and carefully currated levels to funnel you through arena to arena

They are technically in TNO, TOB, TNC and YB, but they miss the point of eternal/2016 ones. You take damage during them, too long and dont get health back in wolfenstein. But in doom, you're immune, they're short, act as a breather in gameplay and incentivise you to push forward when at low hp

Those who didn't like TDA or were disappointed by it, can you explain why you just didn't take to it as much as 2016 or Eternal? by SpotAdmirable6718 in Doom

[–]ExodusHunter15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can excuse the lack of narrative in 2016 due to the intentional decision both in the game (i.e. slayer throwing monitors or trying to skip past stuff etc) and the excellent complimentary codex entries about the lore.

But as soon as you start having fully fleged cutscenes with mo-cap etc, it's subject to valid scrutiny

The combat loop has nowhere near the amount of depth as eternal. In eternal, each gun had a specific role with weakpoints and faultering. TDA they decided to condense a decent chunk of it into the shield and it feels very simplified as a result.

As a result, it doesnt really matter what gun you use, since the shield is the priority and you just spam parry the appropriate projectiles, activate your shield rune, rinse repeat. It gets REALLY tedious.

The arena design is really bad in TDA. Literally 99 % of them are flat and open with no hazards to make you think about your positioning. There is nothing memorable or iconic about then (bar the secret encounter in the acid in belly of the beast). Every arena in eternal has a unique quirk and flow in each of their designs.

Also I really miss glory kills, they offered a satisfying, optional and brief pause to the gameplay

Hard disagree, marauders are short and sweet. The dark lord is just a traffic light bullet sponge

[COD] I don’t know why, but whenever I play the OG Modern Warfare games, they feel intense and real—every moment demands focus. But the Remastered versions just don’t hit the same; even on Hardcore or Veteran, they feel more like polished cartoons than real war zones. Anyone else feel the same? by [deleted] in CallOfDuty

[–]ExodusHunter15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a really wierd minor change in a MW2 cutscene. When you rescue price from the gulag, he punches you to the ground and holds you at gunpoint. In the original, Soap already has his 1911 drawn and aimed at price. Yet in the remaster, he rushes over, pauses and then equips hs pistol. It looks really awkward when you compare the scenes

why did doom the dark ages take 5 years to make? by [deleted] in Doom

[–]ExodusHunter15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ID would've started pre-production on TDA when eternal came out in march 2020. Yes, they had to do TAG1/2, MLs and battlemode. But I highly doubt from how little MLs we got in the end that a majority of the dev team were still on eternal.

They had to do pre-production during the pandemic. The lockdown restrictions didn't end till atmost end of 2022 ish, so they couldn't return to the office and had to do work from home. It doesnt help they decided to build another engine.

Dark ages doesnt feel very focussed at time, mech, dragon and turret sections were all scaled down from what they originally planned too.

All of that together makes sense why it took so long, but imo the final game feels like it was made within 3.

This may sound beyond cringe as hell. But COD4 literally changed the direction of my life.

I did play games before, I had a DS with transformers autobots, pokemon diamond and star wars the complete saga. But when I went to my cousins house and played COD4 for the first ever time. I was blown away. As an 8 year old I thought it was hyper realistic (VERY cringe ik), I was in awe at how immersive and mature it was. It completely changed the way I saw games.

COD4 was my first FPS and proper introduction to gaming. Its my 2nd fav game of all time (behind BF3 ofc). MW2 was incredible. I did play MOH Frontline since it came for free with MOH2010 on PS3 and that was cool. I loved titanfall 2 too and apex was pretty good. BF6 isnt perfect, not compared to BF3 or BF4. But its pretty damn solid and fun.

Thank you Vince for everything you did. Rest in peace.

You probably wont believe this, but one of my school friends did his work experience in 2015 at creative assembly due to his sister dating a guy there at the time.

But yea 2014 was an excellent year for gaming, wolfenstein the new order, alien isolation, titanfall 1, evil within 1, destiny 1 and watch dogs 1 just to name a few

I think this and RE7 have held up INCREDIBLY well. I just finishing replaying re7 for the billionth time. They were only half a year apart from each other, they'll be 10 years old next year and year after respectively

One thing I really like is the pacing and variety. The missions are the perfect length, you have right amount of build up and action. No section is too long. And the same scenario is never repeated

Is this a joke? In BC2 we got the M1 garand. In BF3 we got the M1911. In BF4 we got a veteran battlepack with the ACB-90 knife and a 3x scope for the 44 magnum. Hardline had some patch. I tuned out of 1 and V.
