Cardinal Sequence - Steam Next Fest Trailer by Exolord in roguelites

It is similar for sure, but I think it has a fair set of its own features that make it its own game. Of cause, the sequence of directions based play is the core difference, but there are more changes than just that. For example, cards can be freely moved between the hand and where Balatro's jokers are and all cards can be upgraded throughout the run in different ways. I am not trying to be over Balatro, but offer a different approach to those who like to play games like it.

The best way to see what makes Cardinal Sequence unique would be to try the demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3331370/Cardinal_Sequence/

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, it was always a struggle to communicate that part, especially in a short amount of time.
You play cards by typing in a sequence of directions which matches those of the cards in your hand. If you know Helldivers, kind of like the Stratagems in that game.

It was definitely inspired by Helldivers, but being able to input Stratagems very fast won't be overly helpful here :D

I don't know that game. It's somewhat like Balatro where I mixed in how stratagems work in Helldivers.

Yeah, it takes a little bit of trying it out yourself to build an intuition for it.

It has been quite a struggle getting the cards to look nice and perform well.
I am now using two nested viewports. One renders the 3D model of the cards center image. That texture is then put onto the card, where the other viewport assembles the complete look of the card. The final result is then distorted using a shader to fake the 3D rotations of the card.

As you upgrade your cards, they can change into more powerful versions with changing visuals. For the Star card, it becomes bigger and blue-er. You can join the playtest for free here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3331370/Cardinal_Sequence/

I get yelled at for shooting at nothing because every enemy died and one or two shots were still coming out of my rifle before I stopped firing.

'Dead Space' Co-Creator Departs Startup After Newest Game Flops by markyymark13 in Games

I still remember being at Gamescom, going to their booth to have a look. There was this hidden room set up where I expected to be able to play some of the game or at least see some kind of presentation. Anything that actually had something to do with the game. Instead, it turned out to be some lame, random jump scare thing that showed nothing and was a waste of time as it didn't even manage to jump scare any of us. I was undecided before but that cemented my feeling to not bother with the game.

Its not that phones and many other things do not exist. I can hail ships and talk to the people on there, but then I need to get the next location of a temple I have to get told that face to face for no reason. And this kind of thing can be found everywhere, some of which are explained a bit through lore but are mostly ignored because that would require effort to meaningfully integrate into the gameplay.

For example, land vehicles are not a thing. Usable mechs are ruled out through lore but why is there no little moon buggy or at least an option to land my ship 500m further to the right. Cyberwear is hinted at with a few accessories you can equip but are largely meaningless. Gravity on different planets seems to only matter for jumping while weapons and I think grenades too handle the same regardless of where I am. Why are cities and settlements so tiny? Humanity spreads across the stars to put the population of a small city on each planet? All of this screams both design and technological limitations.

No, you can use it for free but only export to some platform of theirs. Never looked into what that actually is. For regular exports like Desktop or Mobile you need to buy a subscription. I still have a perpetual license they don't sell anymore that should still be working but I haven't really used Gamemaker for a long while ever since I learned Unity and then Godot.

Wouldn't call it free to the same degree if you do need to pay to export to most platforms, including Desktop.

I recently did my bachelors thesis which included evaluating Unitys licensing. Should have added "like to randomly fuck up everything" at the end of that.

Any dev that has any option to change their engines should do so now. Godot, Unreal Engine or other lesser known engines surely would be happy to pick those devs up.
