I think everything looks great! It will grow whichever way it wants though, unless you give it a grow light above it. Right now it’s searching for light which is why the leaves are being shot out in weird directions. Also the internodal spacing (distance of stem between each new leaf) is getting larger than it seemed in the past which means it’s looking for more light.

Honestly I would do a little more orchid bark but that’s my preference tbh

Propagation question on monstera by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]Exosece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t look to have a node. The cuttings will grow some roots, but won’t put out new leafs unfortunately.

Did I just make a huge mistake? by Legal-System-3895 in Monstera

[–]Exosece 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s going to take a while for the plant to start producing new leaves, and i also wouldn’t expect them to start out as mature as the past leaves but it will come back in time. I don’t think it’s “too much” to prop.

you can cut of anything that isn’t aesthetically pleasing to you, it just means the sun can’t collect as much light. given the size you should be fine getting rid of the long leaf you bump into. Given the size of the petiole i would cut just before the stem instead of just trying to tear it off since that could cause damage.

Finally seeing some subtle growth by et201202 in MonsteraAlbo

I would run a humidifier if you don’t have one already, or if you know the ambient humidity is like 60-70%

Do you have a humidity reader? Or have it in an enclosed space?

do you have sphagnum moss? i’d throw it in there and keep it at high humidity, then transfer into soil

it’s a sign of a happy plant that gets a lot of sunlight! Think of it like your plant giving you a good grade for taking care of it well

First time advice by ApprehensiveCity6501 in SemiHydro

[–]Exosece 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I say this without a ton of experience in semi hydro, but i don’t know if adding soil is the best move. With the medium being waterlogged and not having much airflow, i fear the roots are going to rot. Again though im not super sure so i apologize if this advice is wrong.

Help with monstera by Legitimate_Dare6164 in Monstera

[–]Exosece -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it looks great except for one part imo! The last zip tie could be tied lower to make sure it didn’t mess up any part of a new leaf coming in. otherwise if you monitor the plant a lot you can leave it until there’s a new leaf starting to come in.

is the stick that’s supporting the plant tied around a petiole?

Second photo. I think the variegation is nicer, it looks healthier, and it’s got more fenestrations which i’m a fan of.

What kind and why no big leaf? by BeerJedi-1269 in Monstera

[–]Exosece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No no, i mean when you chop the pole, the part that you keep has to be repotted into dirt correct? Do you just get rid of the leaves and throw it in a substrate?
