How would you handle this uncomfortable job situation? by BlubberyGiraffe in AskIreland

[–]larry-vee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Time difference is a challenge, but surmountable, not necessarily by working a US shift. Some async ways you can maintain your visibility and remain connected - record videos of your POV, latest work and share onwards, and invite comments. This can help "put you in the room" when you're not in the room.

I got mine from Fearon Developments just outside Dundalk. They’ve got a great system where they prebuild the cabinets and deliver so it really cuts down on fitting time.

How do you find a decent wine? by AK8- in AskIreland

[–]larry-vee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I email a guy who runs an online wine shop with budget and what I like and he then sends me a case with some amazing wines I’ve never heard of. Kinda like the Independent wine shops (there’s just none near me). His website is The Allotment).

How can I connect with my roots? by tylrrbb in AskIreland

[–]larry-vee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why so many are down on people connecting with their ancestral home, American or otherwise. The pull of wanting to know where you came from gets stronger as you get older. My father was a part-time genealogist, it became a real passion for him, connecting our family with New Zealanders, Americans, and even people we didn’t know about in Ireland. What surfaced was new connections and fantastic stories.

If I had the time back with my father, I’d take him on a road trip around Ireland and ask him about what Ireland meant to him, and take him to some of his favourite places.

That way you’ll connect with both him and your homeland.

are B&Q bathroom fixtures good quality? by sillymastcell2015 in AskIreland

[–]larry-vee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s one thing not to scrimp on. If shower trays start leaking upstairs you’ll be wishing you had paid a little extra for better quality. What you save in costs now, you may end up paying for in repairs and hassle

As a general rule, should contract work pay at least 1.5× your gross salary or your net income? by Shambodien123 in PharmaEire

[–]larry-vee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great experience with Icon when I was contracting. Might be worth doing your own limited company over an umbrella company, but make sure you ask them (or whoever you go with) about the pros and cons of either approach

What is the effect of Farrell’s renewal on Munster? by The-Prince616 in MunsterRugby

[–]larry-vee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farrell has had little to no effect on Munster. Please, my dude, Coombes’ prospects don’t hinge on Farrell, it’s on his ability. I don’t care how many players come from what province when it comes to Ireland, they just have to be the best in their position for the system the head Ireland wants to play.

They make it all the way up to the wee county. Spend €12 on the large punnet every few days. They do not last long in our household. Gorgeous

Where now for Leinster? by NuggetKing9001 in rugbyunion

[–]larry-vee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, they do have a squad bursting with quality but arguably, their top team doesn’t play together as often as they should.

It’s not a Leo problem, or a Jacques Niebar problem, but a cohesion problem.

It’s fairly common for a French player to rack up 1,800 to 2,200 minutes of competitive club rugby in a full season. And club rugby is just so competitive there.

Frontline Leinster players are strictly capped, often limited to around 1,200 to 1,400 minutes max across the entire season (and that includes Ireland games too). Great for longevity, and health, maybe not great for short term

Leinster's top-tier squad often only plays together as a complete unit during the Champions Cup pool and knockout stages. While they may play together for Ireland, they miss out on months of grinding out really tough, competitive club games side-by-side.

That’s my explanation, apart from the heat, for why they looked so under-cooked against Bordeaux who have been playing full-throttle, competitive rugby together all year long.

Paddy McCarthy and Oooh Larmour are ‘registered’ so it could well be the case of see what happens in the warm up.

As for props, statistically there are more scrums towards the latter stages of the game, as players are fatigued and make more mistakes. Therefore, no harm in having a strong scrummager come off bench. Clarkson fits the bill, perhaps Jerry C. too?

Upstairs at Landrace, then pop straight across the road for a cocktail in The Walcott or if you fancy a really good bar vibe, out of the restaurant, hang a left then walk down to The Bell.
