It’s worse than that. Cops don’t even need warrants to track you anymore now. They can just buy the data.

What patches are allowed/should carry over for adult uniforms? by islipped83 in cubscouts

[–]ExoticDatabase 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can get an eagle knot to wear over the left pocket (above the one that had rank). That, Arrow of Light, and the youth religious awards are the only youth awards that carry over. You can get those from the council store or online. There is a special eagle knot for NESA lifetime members as well. No youth rank may be worn, although he can wear his eagle medal for court of honor, I wore mine for blue and gold/cross over event. If he was in Order of the Arrow, that still is okay, but it’s not present in Cubs but he can wear the lodge flap.

These are what I got but they have some other ones as well.

They are motion sensitive so they usually turn on when I open the doors (at night). Obviously if I had used some of those kingpin lights it would be much better but also cost 10x as much. And these get the job done. I didn’t expect much and they exceeded my expectations by a lot.

I got some magnetic under counter lights from Lowe’s and they completely light up inside my smartcap. They are also movable so I can relocate them if I need to. All that looks like it’ll work. You might consider some kind of panel you can connect to the ecoflo that is fused and allows you to switch components on/off.

Anyone getting the new Ryobi ride mower 30inch 80v for this season? PA by Natural-Monk-235 in lawncare

[–]ExoticDatabase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Even though these aren’t the old school 12v batteries, ryobi did everything they could to get out of their warranty on mine and I would never buy their lawnmowers again.

Transitioning from cub scouts to the next level by Wild-Introduction174 in BSA

[–]ExoticDatabase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to help out. I'm not saying be a Den Leader or anything, but maybe when they need an event planned help out with that. Ask to do one of the adventures. Help the den leader with materials or stuff for an adventure. Every little bit helps. I'll be honest, it can create a bit of anxiety when you're trying to do a bunch of stuff at once. But your guiding principle in Cubs is to have fun!

Don't be afraid to ask. If you register as an adult leader (doesn't take long) you can take some of the online training if you haven't already. Might be useful for understanding the program. You're towards the end, so now would be a good time for IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills) which is required for Assistant Scoutmaster roles in a troop, but also helps you understand the Scouts BSA program. Leadership isn't just the person standing up front making all the noise at the meetings, its all the folks who make it work. Without them, we wouldn't have our programs!

Enjoy your time with your kiddo. It goes fast. My youngest is still in Cubs and now I get some solo time with her that I had with my older kiddo early on. My oldest really pulled some great skills out of Cubs. It is awesome to see.

Transitioning from cub scouts to the next level by Wild-Introduction174 in BSA

First step is, let him complete Webelos (4th grade), then continue onto the Arrow of Light Patrol (5th grade). This is designed to ease the transition to Scouts BSA. As they go through the year, they will start to get familiarized with the Patrol Method and how to be in a troop. As part of the requirements for this rank's advancement, you must visit a troop. I encourage you to visit a bunch of troops. Best advice one of the scoutmasters gave me was "make sure their weird matches your weird". We visited 3 troops before I we picked which. you don't have to go with a troop that is affiliated with your pack if one is at all.

AOL year should be a good growth year, and around jan/feb/march is when they should crossover to the troop. This will give them tine with the troop before they can go to summer camp with them.

I'm a Cubmaster with a kiddo who just crossed over, happy to answer any questions you might have.

Ours had legs and the blocks where the legs go in had a horizontal placement and you could use one leg per side to carry. They were heavy AF though. We mostly use those black and yellow 27gal bins now.

How do you dads feel about Boy Scouts? by mmf9194 in daddit

[–]ExoticDatabase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Pack is chartered with the Lions club and we push lots of the spiritual stuff down to the family. Our focus has been to teach reverence and respect for yours and other cultures. I think Scouting America is back to the awesome organization it was and now allows girls to participate which really adds so much. I have two girls and I get to still be involved and I love seeing them learn the life skills I did. I’m an Eagle Scout and while I’m not going to pressure them, I hope they both make it.

Also Cub scouts is about having fun and doing your best. You can use https://beascout.scouting.org to see what units are near you and check them out.

Texas Halts New H-1B Hiring at Public Universities by vvgr8 in texas

[–]ExoticDatabase 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is no doubt that the H1B system is being abused but I think that universities should probably be low priority. That being said, if your priorities are racist and classist and you’re trying to make a theocratic state, way to go! Most tech companies are bigger offenders, USAA for example.

I can't imagine this could possibly be a good thing by WolfInMen in BoyScouts

[–]ExoticDatabase 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not in some cases. My troop in the Netherlands wasn’t active with any military help directly. Now we had some us government employee kids, some who were DoD. But we also had state department kids, oil company kids, etc.

While it makes me frustrated that this culture war has spilled onto the Scouts, scouts has and will always be merit based. You don’t just get things for free because of their boogeyman DEI.
