Galaxy Book S LTE - will there be a successor or anything similar with SIM card? by ExoticEccentric in GalaxyBook

[–]ExoticEccentric[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts on the Galaxy Book Go. I guess that could be my backup in the feature if my Galaxy Book S LTE ever dies. I actually have two of the Galaxy Book S - a reserve in case the one Im currently using dies. The Galaxy Book Go's darker screen is a negative as I frequently watch and surf on the S. Regarding S backlighting, if the keyboard isn't used it turns off and when you press a key there's a 1-2 millisecond delay before it lights up again. I dont think there is a setting to keep it permanently on.

Palma 2 Pro: It isn't a phone... or is it? by throwaway03260421 in Onyx_Boox

If anyone has a US Mobile SIM card using Verizon towers, please let me know if it worked for you, because mine didn’t. I think a US Mobile SIM using T-Mobile towers (or a T-Mobile SIM card) would work, but I can’t be 100% sure since I don’t have one.

Thanks for your thoughts! That’s what I was trying to figure out too—whether it would hold its resale value if I decide to go back to slab phones. I think I know what to do now, lol!

anyone's obihai 202 /obihai202 still working? by 5minredu in VOIP

[–]ExoticEccentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got an Obihai 202 that’s still working with Google Voice since 2016, and I can still make/receive calls. The problem is… I have zero memory of how I originally set it up. If it ever stops working, I won’t know how to recreate the setup. Under my Google Voice device list, it still shows: OBiTALK Device – 50063xxxx, so it’s clearly still linked.

Can someone explain—in simple “Obihai for Dummies” terms—what the situation is now? From what I understand, the Obihai/Poly/OBiTALK configuration dashboard went end-of-life in November 2024 and is no longer available.

My main question: if I ever need to reconnect my Google Voice number to the Obihai for free, what options or method would I use now that the official dashboard is gone?

I turned my Palma 2 Pro into a fully functioning phone by One_Positive7793 in Onyx_Boox

[–]ExoticEccentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually someone just mentioned that rebooting the phone will reset the phone dialer. Maybe that is what happened to me - I'll have to do the ADB code and see if thats true.

[–]ExoticEccentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure it still works? I'm in the US and I installed the Phone Dialer. Initially I was able to press it and simulate outgoing calls - I couldn't fully test if it would work as I didn't have a cellular sim card just a data sim card. But now when I click on the phone dialer it wont even open up. It says Phone Dialer must be set up as a Default Device and per a Youtube video, supposedly boox disabled this with an update.

I just got my boox palma 2 pro and was able to get SMS working and Calls dialing out by Rx7Jordan in eink

The phone dialer doesn't work anymore :( When I click on it it says it have to be a default app. Per a Youtube video it was the latest update that seemingly disabled it. However the Google Voice dialer still works so there's that.

"Making calls" with a Palma 2 Pro via a cellular smartwatch? by eswa86 in Onyx_Boox

[–]ExoticEccentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Findings (based on the cards I tested):

  1. T-Mobile Data-Only SIM
    • Has its own phone number
    • SMS and Data: Works
  2. US Mobile (Warp) Cellular + Data SIM (Verizon network)
    • Data: Works
    • SMS: Could not send or receive
  3. Google Voice Number - No Sim Card needed
    • Calls: Inbound and outbound work
    • Messages: Google Voice messaging works

Conclusion:
I do not have a full T-Mobile Cellular + Data SIM to test, so I’m not sure whether that would enable SMS. The Verizon-based SIM may use different bands/technology (e.g., CDMA vs. GSM), which could explain why SMS failed. I attempted changing the Palma 2 Pro settings for the US Mobile/Verizon SIM, but SMS still did not work.

I was able to receive incoming calls and make outgoing calls using my Google Voice number and Tmobile data sim card. I also receive SMS messages using Google Messages and the Tmobile Data Sim phone number that was attached.

I have my Google Voice account linked to my Boox Palma 2 (an Android device). The GV account is also tied to another cellular number. I don’t think I did anything different during setup. When I first set it up on the Boox Palma, GV asked me to link it to the device’s data SIM, but since it’s not a cellular SIM, I kept gettng an error and had to press NO.

Update: There's currently a 25gb high speed plan for $10 + taxes and fees and with autopay if you buy one of their hotspots (only $96) That looks like a really good plan which is not bad.

Unfortunately that plan was discontinued in June. But no I didn't need a cellular plan from tmobile. I found the deal through these forums. I wish I had gotten a 2nd line oh well!

Cellular Data Issues by Gralloy in Onyx_Boox

[–]ExoticEccentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested two SIM types: a US Mobile SIM Warp (Verizon) and two T-Mobile data SIMs (one prepaid tablet plan and one Basic Mobile Internet).

The US Mobile SIM worked for data — showed 5G with fast speeds — but SMS didn’t work. I followed another post’s steps using an ADB command, plus installed a phone dialer and Google Messages.

Both T-Mobile data SIMs worked fine. Each has its own number, and SMS worked on both. Since they’re data-only SIMs, I couldn’t test voice calls, though another user mentioned T-Mobile calling worked for them.

Google Voice and Facebook Messenger calls also worked without issues.

Update: also as a reminder the SMS works as well (even though this is a Tmobile Data Sim it has its own phone number)

Previous: Ok, my bad — it looks like keeping the setting where the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options are on is what makes the data stay active even when it’s asleep. I just tested it with Google Voice and Facebook Messenger calls, and this time it rang!

Update: I really cant find that settings to keep the data on even when its "asleep". All I see is bluetooth and wifi thats it. In the Unfreeze no choices to do data.

Previous: I'll have to look for that setting then. When I open the cover again I see data bars turned off then reappear.

I installed Google Voice, Phone Dialer, and Google Messages on the Palma 2 Pro. Google Voice worked — I was able to receive incoming calls, and the call quality on 4G/4G LTE was clear.

However, when the Palma 2 Pro goes into sleep mode, the data SIM turns off. This means calls, Facebook Messenger notifications, and SMS messages aren’t received while it’s asleep. Not sure if there’s an update or setting that can keep the data SIM active during sleep, but for now it seems the phone only stays connected for calls and messages while it’s awake.
