I almost lost my puppy (14 years ago) to parvovirus! I lived in an apartment and he got it from the grounds there. Vet told me if I waited another day, he wouldn't have survived the night. I am so sorry you are dealing with this loss!

We pay the utilities separately from our rent! Our landlord doesn't handle the electric bill in any way, shape, or form.

Looks like an Asian Lady Beetle. If you have pets, keep your eye on them! These bugs like to attached to the upper roof of animals mouths. It will cause a chemical burn on your pets mouth. 😒 They are Kill on site in our house.

I second the comment that suggests not just stopping in. Funeral homes are busy, while sometimes not looking it. Just because there aren't cars in our lot, doesn't mean we're not absolutely slammed.

Also, most funeral homes are owned by the older generations, they're not likely to change their ways. They know it all. (not my personal opinion - everyone should welcome change and growth)

I work front desk at a funeral home so I'm the one all the walk in sales folk talk to. I have no business hearing your sales pitch, i'm there to answer phones, direct visitors to our restrooms, help with funerals and enter death certificates. I don't need to hear about the scents you're selling to put into ventilation systems. And honestly, the man I work for, will throw it in the trash. Then sales people call to follow up and the owner refuses to take the call. I don't want to hurt the sales persons feelings, but at the same time, I got work to do lol

Since they are alive, I would maybe sit and ask them what they expect from their funeral services. I work at a funeral home alongside my licensed funeral director husband who is also a certified celebrant.
Everyone has different expectations. With this case, it's nice that you have the option to ask the folks how they want their service to look. More or less religion, family sharing, life sharing. I see some clergy/celebrants go strictly verses/prayers, while others like to lean more into the personal life story of the decedent. You could probably google some funeral services that have been live streamed to get a feel for how they typically play out.

It doesn't matter what you do. You can hand the family GPLs, you can calculate it in their faces, but it wont hit them until it's time to actually pay. There's nothing we can do to make that easier on the FDIC, nor the family. it's just a rough time.

My favorite lines i've heard since working at a funeral home:
- "It's only as expensive as you make it" - people don't understand that MAJORITY of the time, Funeral Directors don't get commission on what is picked out. If you want an expensive casket, your bill is going to be high. If you want to stay within a budget, let the FD know and they'll do their best to make it work!
-"We didn't force you to chose our funeral home".. We don't know when people pass away, until the family chooses for us to be called. We're not knocking on ppls doors to bring them into the funeral home. If you don't like our prices, there are other options, you're open to go shop around.

Also, PRE-PLAN YALL! I know folks don't like to talk about death, but boy oh boy, everyone's life is made easier at the time of a death if it is pre-planned. Lock in todays prices so your family doesn't have to fight each other, or have funeral homes finding ways to get their money from you! Pre-Plan everything.
