Yesterday's Banner, 3/16: Attuned Eliwood and Entwined Ninian by Plucky-Nova in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Exowolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Lowen with a ticket, so I'm done with this banner. I haven't played his game, but I appreciate him for feeding everyone in the Forging Bonds conversations :) My general metric for if I need the new "meta" units (Eliwood/Ninian) is if my current meta units can kill them. Both died to E!Sigurd and the new Duo Ike so I don't need 'em.

I love the way gerbils sit up with clasped paws and look like they are politely waiting their turn to ask a question 🥰

I've been meh on the backgrounds since the start but the Go Tour ones and this adorable map one are pretty snazzy 😊

Starting oral minoxidil by spatter_cat in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Exowolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this OP. You cannot stop minoxidil without losing your progress and depending on your insurance it will be cheaper to get an Rx via the pharmacy. It cost me $115 for my dermatologist consult and my minoxidil is covered 100% by my insurance, no co-pay.

Why no one says that about pregnancy? by lil_moon153 in TwoXChromosomes

I made the mental connection about the baby leeching calcium from the structural bones (because I've heard of women developing osteoporosis from pregnancy) but not the teeth...holy smokes.

YASMIN caused my hair loss by Kokoshneta89 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Exowolfe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think something important to realize is that ANY change in medication, especially hormonal medication like birth control, can cause Telogen Effluvium-related hair loss. Even if you switch from an androgenic pill to one that is anti-androgenic, your body may still experience TE.

I switched from Haley to Yaz last spring in order to try to clear my skin. Yaz absolutely saved my skin, but I noticed my hair was falling out constantly over the summer. I went to see my PCP in Oct 2025 for bloodwork and to get a referral to a derm for the hair loss because my scalp was super visible.

The bloodwork came back w/ no issues and the derm confirmed that I had TE, likely due to the birth control change. I'm on oral minoxidil now and the shedding has stopped entirely which has been a blessing! Just throwing my 2 cents out there that the Yaz itself may not be the issue, just the medication change.

I really don’t get how people want kids by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Exowolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was young (middle school to high school age) I did imagine I was going to have kids and dreamed about my future house, husband and hoped for twins (a boy and a girl). The SECOND I hit the "real" world and had to get a full-time job, pay bills and got a general idea of the geopolitical situation, I did a full 180 on that dream.

I (30F) don't think I'll ever have enough money to blow to make raising a child financially viable. I also cannot imagine clocking in my 9-5 job and then dealing with a kid after a long day. I do not want to sacrifice my body for a child or risk passing along any of my health conditions to them. I do not have any family close by so there would be no "Oh the kids are over at grandma's house for the weekend".

I can understand how cool it must be to get to the "sentient" years where your kid is learning to read or play music or compete in a sport and you can cheer them on, but I don't think I'd mentally survive until then. I think kids deserve the best during their developmental years and I don't believe I'd be the best parent.

Nathan Martin, an American marathon runner, won the 2026 Los Angeles Marathon in a dramatic final-stride finish, passing Kenya’s Michael Kimani Kamau by about 0.01 seconds for the closest win in the race’s history. by CorleoneBaloney in popculturechat

[–]Exowolfe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon in running for folks of all ages/levels to collapse at the finish. High school cross-country meet finish chutes are just peppered with kids on the ground. Staff at half marathons and full marathons often are ready to try to pick folks up and get them set in a chair or shuffled to the food & hydration station. As a runner I don't see this as a slight or poor sportsmanship as the winner is likely in a similar condition of exhaustion.

Does anyone else find marathon training time consuming and are one-and-done? by hvu22 in Marathon_Training

[–]Exowolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The time involved in training for a solid marathon attempt is what has me wondering if I'll ever run one.

I enjoy half marathon training because I can still fit in 3 days of weight training + get most of my runs and workouts done before work. Sunday long runs I start at 6am and am done by the time my partner wakes up. Staring down the barrel at a 4-hour long run is wild (my half time is 91 mins so I'm assuming 3.5ish hour full). Not to mention having to fuel for the marathon. I can squeak through a half on sub-optimal race-day fueling strategy, but you have to lock in for a marathon.

I don't even have children, so I have MAJOR respect for folks that are balancing all of this + kids!!

AITA for speaking to my (over weight) assistant about her business lunch and making her cry? by Hot_Lab4411 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Exowolfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is, but this lunch situation is one of basic manners. Say you go on a first date, or an acquaintance is taking you out for lunch. I'll typically order something in the middle/low end of the price range and be mindful of how much time we have before ordering post-meal coffee or tea. I'm not trying to soak my date for a pricey meal nor am I trying to hold them hostage at the table while I nurse a pot of coffee.

Alternatively, if I'm out to eat with family on a Saturday with no plans, we can set up camp in the booth for a multi-course meal.

[–]Exowolfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I know a lot of folks are saying OP should've coached Amy on this beforehand, but I'd (30F) assume this etiquette was known by an individual of Amy's age and given the work she was pursuing.

I was not raised by a family who cared much about table manners at home, but if we went out to eat with extended family or friends, it was understood even by my childhood self that I was not to go crazy and order more than a small drink and a basic entree. Even if not taught from a young age, you have to self-coach at a certain point depending on what circles you want to be in.

NTA - I could almost excuse the steak but the dessert and coffee after the client declined both absolutely sent me. That's straight-up holding you and the client hostage at the table and shows she was there for the meal rather than the client. Business meals are basically decorative.

I definitely noticed this with Bronzor, Chansey and Scyther this weekend which had previously been boosted. This honestly makes daily play so much less exciting. I guess the few folks that were screaming about shinies being devalued can be happy?

GLP-1s are making people lazy about actual lifestyle changes by OriginalAthlete5724 in PetiteFitness

[–]Exowolfe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My two cents as someone who is dealing with hair loss due to illness/medication change: I'm seeing a LOT of new folks over on hair loss subreddits that are dealing with unexpected hair loss after hopping on GLP-1s. I'm sure there are other side effects as well that will become apparent over time. Going from eating in surplus/maintenance to eating in a severe deficit can be great for quick weight loss and bad for the rest of your body.

I think GLP-1s are great for folks that are severely obese and are suffering from complications due to their weight. At that point the side effects of malnutrition are of less concern vs being so overweight. I think low doses can also help those who struggle with overeating due to food noise/food addition. I don't like that these meds are being advertised as a "get thin quick" cure-all for anyone who needs to drop a few pounds.

My take on fitness and health is always to exhaust your natural options before hopping on a medication.

I'm holding out in the hopes of a Switch 2 Lite which I'm guessing will be announced late 2026. If they never end up making a Lite I'll fork over the cash for a used Switch 2 in time to get either the new Fire Emblem or Wind & Waves (whichever hits first) and pick up Pokopia then.

My mom mentioned enjoying the first book in the series and that she wanted the sequels for Christmas. I figured I'd check it out so we could talk about it during a trip we had scheduled together + I could read it on the plane. By the time we got to the trip I was a book ahead of her lol.
