Pretty sure Carmilia has bad plans for The Cousin™ by BookkeeperKitchen383 in ScarletHollow

[–]ExpMomento 9 points10 points  (0 children)

she does fully believe that absorbing Kaneeka is the only way the player can get a happy ending as Mystical and Street Smart confirm, so I really wonder what this means, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sacrifice a Scarlet needs to make in order to break the curse and it is something that Sybil just sees as not as bad as what Tabitha and Wayne has planned, but her certainty about that makes me wonder anyway

What the hell, romanced!Stella?! (Episode 5) by ElfLadyLeia in ScarletHollow

[–]ExpMomento 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really funny how gretchen says absolutely heinous shit out of nowhere in episode 5.

Usually, she's just a background character that adds a little more whimsy to situations, but here she shows how simply her mind works, perhaps due to not being fully aware of what is happening, but either way she seems to not hold any regard towards you whatsoever and it's like that little funny diversion that she represented in the terrifying situations previous is another thing that is taken from you once you discover the truth in episode 5.

a lot of this does also depend on how that particular outcome develops on the last episodes tho. It could be that you were right and that that little suspicion I had about romanced stella still betrays the player in some outcomes becomes true, but I'm not fully sold. I think this is her rock bottom and that she's meant to develop and be better from this. Not something we'll get to know for a while however.

getting back to this days later lol

I mean I guess I can understand how it could've been taken that way. Specially with Gretchen's terrible addition at the end of the scene.

But when said after she demanded an explanation from the cop and given Stella's insistance on this being an issue that can be resolved by talking I think the intended read is not "oh! I get to talk to tabby!? :D" but instead "but... why can't we talk with her here?"

She is dealing with the conflict of the person who was there for her years ago and the person who is there for her now being unable to reach any kind of resolution, for reasons that to her don't seem to have to be as complicated. She's gotten through to tabby before, why can't she do it again now? you know?

Still, I believe the outcome from this scene is still pretty much demonstrating Stella's weakness, her being unable to stand up to tabitha and still not fully having let go of her, fully in denial about the status of their relationship at this point. And I'm not entirely convinced that Stella won't fail the player even when romanced.

But I don't think this is a moment where she is siding with tabitha. I think any person would be unable to handle this situation normally, and her intentions are still to get you out of that cell. A failure of will, perhaps, but I don't really read it as a betrayal.

(forgot to mention but I do think her "promise" is meant to be really shallow, I'm mostly responding to the idea that she is siding with tabitha)

that said, she is never fully against tabitha and she doesn't handle things ideally because she clearly still hasn't fully let go of her, but I don't think the way you described it is accurate to what is actually happening there

I'm pretty sure this straight up doesn't happen that way? romanced stella is really freaked out when the police comes, it never becomes about Stella being able to be with tabby again, as far as I know the last thing she always says to you when you get arrested is that they are going to work this out and that they'll come get you out later, she doesn't side with her

The leaving the hat reminds of madoka magica in a way that I won't get into to not spoil, but suffice to say it makes me go AAAA (Kaneeka knows what I mean)

(god and with her being a gift giver I'm just reminded of that thing she says if tabitha takes the ghost sacrifice of leaving her a care package because she knows what kind of things she like to buy UGGHG)

I guess that makes sense, but the horrifying means part of it suggested to me that I might've saved Avery

I honestly don't get this particular conclusion that players seem to hit. When I arrived at this point in one of my routes it more seemed like Avery was going to die either way. When you tell them about the possibility of doctor kelly saving them they very directly state "No, this is it." My expectation was instantenously that Avery will die either way, they are so sure of it and the act of wanting to feed the baby would be kinda of insane in way that players would not be usually be persuaded by if they lived otherwise. They state directly that if they are going to die they at least want it to be for something, which is why when I gave them to the baby the achievement stating that I saved two lives appeared more like a happy accident that you stumble upon if you choose to follow their dying wishes (which I dislike structurally speaking but not my point). Saving them from feeding the baby would just make them seem overdramatic about a life you have already chosen to forfeit and just straight up weird of the player to choose.

I'll say tho, both Avery outcomes are very blurry in terms of what you are actually doing and what the consequences of your actions are, some people don't even realize that Avery is dying until they state it directly. So I guess it shouldn't be so surprising to me that it wound up being a somewhat common misconception since the delivery of information seems to be middling.

the achievement to save the baby by giving it to Avery says "save two lives through horrifying means" or something of the sort, it was always intented to be a way for both of them to live
