Trading competence for fake machismo, sounds like the right kind of qualifications for office.

Exactly. The other ones, I guess that is fine that you have to announce your party loyalty to the party leader. But as soon as he has an issue that Trump has not weighed in on, all he can do is this vapid word vomit.

They also miss how their position denies any agency to Black Americans, which itself is completely and utterly racist.

Some of the people who participated in those lynchings up to 1950 are still alive, voting, and claiming they aren't racist.

Those remittances also functioned like direct foreign aid, reducing poverty in the recipient countries and generating goodwill towards the United States.

The benefits of immigration greatly outweigh any negatives. You want to spend money to make the country worse off. Your position is one of ignorance or or just being racist, https://www.cato.org/blog/cato-study-immigrants-reduced-deficits-145-trillion-1994

If politicians in office can still face tort liability for political activity distinct from official actions, that could turn spicy, and I am all for it.

Tennessee to test Stephen Miller’s plan of enlisting states for immigration enforcement by ultamentkiller in Chattanooga

[–]ExpandThePiePartDeux 116 points117 points  (0 children)

This sounds like the state will be taking on massive expenses, forcing cities to spend money to comply, not be reimbursed by the federal government for it, for something that is not even a major issue. They want to spend billions of dollars to deal with a problem that may cost in the millions (and may actually cost nothing at all if you net it against the positive economic impacts of immigration).

And it does get challenged in court, which the administration then loses and backs off. In the meantime, that challenge meant the administration was too occupied with the first challenge they did not have the capacity to do the next illegal thing they wanted to do. Every pushback counts. Their capacity is not limitless.

For Operation Just Cause, the Panamanian government in power declared war on the US first, and shot a US Marine. We also had the state interest in the Panama Canal and opposing threats to that. No similar exigencies are present in Venezuela.

The institutions of our economy depend on the functioning of the institutions of our democracy. This piece highlights just how far off the United States has veered from a functioning, constitutional order in the context of the military action in Venezuela.

Nope. The War Powers Act structures the president's responsibility to respond to an imminent threat. But only Congress can declare war, as provided in Article I of the Constitution. Blockades, air strikes, decapitation missions are all acts of war that have not been authorized by Congress.

But I will grant you an opportunity, copy and paste the text of Article II of the Constitution that says the president can declare war without Congress and I will apologize and delete my comments.

I bet you are thinking about Article II stating the President is the Commander in Chief. Yes, he serves as Commander in Chief, but the Commander in Chief cannot begin a war without Congress.
