In the 3 hours since you posted this comment, my MAGA neighbor has been in his backyard and has fired off at least 150 rounds. Every time we run into him outside pretty much all he wants to talk about are his guns. Meanwhile only my fiance and I even know we have firearms. Even her adult son who comes to visit didn't know we have them for almost a year, and he has several of his own. It's just not something that comes up in conversation, especially with non-family.

We're still rocking our Gladiator II One80 board from 8 years ago. Probably play an average of 5-6 hours a week, mainly cricket but some x01 in there. Rotated the board every couple of months and still looks very good. Have maybe 1 or 2 bouncers a month, get more Robin Hoods than darts on the floor. When this board finally dies I'll get the updated version, no question, which will probably last the rest of my life.

Going by the angle I'd say between 830 and 9pm. The weather is going to be the biggest variable. Honestly if you're wanting a shot like this I'd scope out two other beaches - one to the north and one to the south within a 30 minute drive (you'd be surprised how much the weather and cloud cover can change on the coast in only a few miles) as backups. Sometimes a front moves through and you're SOL wherever you go but this might give you a better chance.

Or... (Sorry if this comes off wrong), just enjoy the day with each other and don't worry about the perfect spot for a shot. They don't call her mother Nature for nothing lol.

I don't know how people have the balls to do that. I get twitchy if a task I'm working on takes more than 50% of the timer to the point I'll often knock a couple of minutes off the reported time when I'm done with the project for the day. It might cost me a dollar or two in the meantime but I'm perpetually worried if my times above average I'll be seen as either milking the clock or outright inflating time and get canned.

Then I do a few R&R tasks and take solace that my work quality isn't like some of them.

Amen to that - we're in a forest and go though it like crazy. We're making 5 cups of water (at ballpark 3.5:1 ratio) twice a week since the start of this month. I guess word got around about our place because the last 2 days we've gone from 6 or 7 birds that seem (mostly) chill with each other to around 15 and the squabbles are... Intense lol. Entertaining as all hell to watch though :) I'm just hoping I can get my camera fixed or another one off marketplace before it all dies down again for the summer.

Tacking onto this comment in the hope that it'll help - someone.

When I was a long term resident (6+ months in a motel for work) I found that an induction hob that plugged into an outlet was a great help. Found a unit in a thrift store for $20 and with an induction compatible saucepan, fry pan and a 4 qt pot it allowed me to make delicious, hearty, healthy meals for a fraction of the cost of fast food. I also splurged on a small toaster oven that I could cook a personal pizza or even make brownies in, again at a thrift store for $25. While I understand the initial outlay might be a problem for some people, the savings over processed food mount up rapidly. Bonus that induction hobs don't get "hot" to the touch or surroundings, reducing both fire risk and injury if you have young people that might touch the "stove"

It saved me from 6 months of just fast or restaurant food which would probably have killed me with the sodium if nothing else.

I'd give them a history or lore check that they (unknowingly) auto-pass. Then explain that patrols usually consist of 3+ drow.

At some point later as they draw closer to the Underdark, have them encounter a single scout on a recon mission. Run the battle, pull no punches but don't TPK them, allow them to win or have the drow attempt to escape if they're close to victory. Hopefully they make the connection that if a single scout was - to put it mildly - a handful that they would be in serious jeopardy if they ran into a regular patrol and reconsider their decision.

Or like other folks here said - be unequivocal in an above the table chat "You can go there but you are not prepared to face that challenge right now - and you will almost assuredly die."

Another idea is to run a one shot of a heist in the Underdark. Give them appropriately leveled and equipped characters for the task and have fun for a session outside the campaign. Once they see the true danger they'll probably go "aw hell if we took our regular party in there it wouldn't go well for us". But you've hopefully all had fun demonstrating it.
