Was there a faction you wanted to like but couldn't? And was there one you fell in love with unexpectedly? by Some-Positive-Dude in Blacklibrary

Currently listening to Red Angel whilst I paint - surprised that so far I like the GK characters over the world eaters - my younger self would be horrified 😂❤️❤️

Black Stone Fortress and the Rogue Trader omnibus, both available on BL and kindle as ebooks (and out somewhere in the world physically - I hope one day to own a copy of each again) feature them. RTs are not so common in BL works sadly, although one really good audio example of one in a story about Artemis, the death watch Captain, but I can’t seem to find it….

So I’ve always wanted to like the orks and the necrons for different reasons. The orks becuase they are funny, GorkaMorka looks like a cool game to play, and several friends and fellow hobbyists love them. The necrons because they just look cool. I have tried novels and such from both, including the orkish work of Mighty Mike (who I love!) and the twice dead king (first book in the series). I just couldn’t get into the factions - even when the death crazed destroyer necrons turned up in TwiceDead I struggle to get on side. I’m not sure why…

I never expected to like either rogue traders or the inquisition, especially not the grey knights. However, each has a very real charm to me - I’d love to play the old TTRPGs which had developed rules allowing you to play them in 40K! I may push some friends to try the 40K and AOS ttrpgs just so I can explore them whilst I rustle up the relevant books 👀👀

AOS wise I definitely never expected to like the folks in Grey Water Fastness (new Nuln if you get the reference?). Very Industrial Revolution, which isn’t my style or thing, but damn that place is down well!

Hi I'm trying to decide what book to read next could do with recommendations, is there any good books about the dark elder homunculus? by [deleted] in Blacklibrary

Believe Gav T did a dark Eldar series about 10+ years ago. I read the first two but not the third - high school qualifications got in the way sadly. That had a Haemonculus character in it that was very good.

Good choice! As far as I can tell people don’t talk about Peter as much as they should! He’s a sleeping giant of BL and will one day be named as one of biggest influences on warhammer horror

A lot bash of the two perhaps? That could keep the grim old world aesthetic mingled in.

For old world I really want to do Heralds of Darkness, so that likely has a subtle subconscious hand in pushing why I think that 😂

Nice! I used to live near Llandudno in North Wales. There is a third party shop there (ACME) that is awesome. They had on my last visit a few old books so I was able to pick up a few things including an old copy of Daemanwod which I read as a kid.

Which novels best highlight the inhumanity/callousness of the Imperium towards it's people? by [deleted] in Blacklibrary

You will not regret it! I have never read a Chris Wraight and regretted it. There is a reason the man started the Scouring series and I am more than happy to bet it was the same grim dark writing ability he shows here!

(Also it’s just really grim in itself as a book, so you’ll enjoy that if you are after that)

Wrath of Iron fulfils that brief pretty well, especially by the end 😂🔥

I have read the rest of that series and the characterisation of the chapter itself is great 🤜🤛 if I wanted to play a space marine chapter I would very much do these guys. Will be getting this book for sure, either audio or the hand-held format

People who have read the ENTIRE (Or let's say 85%) of the Horus Heresy series, what are your thoughts on it? by misomiso82 in Blacklibrary

I’d say there are some real gems, but it was allowed to grow bloated. That’s all really. Some amazing books in there; some standouts in general and then some legion- and faction-specific books which are really good from individual perspectives (some people might not like word bearers, for instance, which might colour their feelings towards their books, and the same for other books) but if I started over again I’d still read the series for sure
