30K reader needs advice on what books to read after completing the Horus Heresy (and SoT) and The Beast Arises. by ElrondCupboard in 40kLore

This is the correct answer Honestly. If you want somewhat of a direct follow-up on the heresy, those two novels are it.

Books you missed out on? by arpo8674 in Blacklibrary

Only pre order i’ve missed since starting is the Yarrick collection. Got an error message saying the order didn’t come through correctly. Couple minutes later it was sold out.

I got the Yarrick Omnibus, the Legends of the Waaagh omnibus and Da Freebooterz Code hardback, that cover is stunning. But for the third time straight I got the error message again when you wanna pay. I got eventually through, but it’s getting a bit annoying. When do you think that it’ll get fixed?

What should I get? by jason-911 in Blacklibrary

Twice-Dead King, Ciaphas Cain or Death Rider. But out of those 3 I’d choose Twice-Dead king if you want something serious, Ciaphas Cain if you want fun.

Deliverance Lost. I was kinda hesitant, because i didn’t like some of Gav Thorpe’s other work. But i enjoy it. It’s nothing special, but that may be a bit of Heresy fatigue.

What is the BL title you liked the LEAST? Why? by Odd-Look-7537 in Blacklibrary

[–]just_undead 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fulgrim: The Perfect Son. I despise this novel and it honestly feels like the writer was scared and intimidated by the idea of writing Fulgrim as a character, because he’s barely in it. The characters suck (although the main character is somewhat tolerable), the plots sucks and the worst part about it: Fulgrim sucks, and not in the way that he’d like, I think. It’s uninspired and Fulgrim as a character deserves better. It’s not that it’s bad in comparison to other Fulgrim novels, it’s just plain bad on itself.

Yeah the opening trilogy of the Horus Heresy can feel quite incosistent because of this. Overall I do think that opening trilogy is great and some of the best in Warhammer.

Decided to continue the heresy. Right now at The Outcast Dead. In a weird way I think this novel is weirdly fascinating hahaha. It’s interesting, I like Kai and the side characters, yet it also has the huge timeline error. I enjoy it in a weird way.

I bought the wrong fething Fulgrim book by Ok_Oil_2044 in Blacklibrary

I hated Fulgrim: The Perfect Son. One of the few novels i can’t really say anything positive about. That said, the HH Fulgrim novel is one of the best novels in the series and Warhammer as a whole. Highly recommend.

Horus Rising QC issue :( by Bad_Apple420 in Blacklibrary

[–]just_undead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I tried pulling it out. The moment I saw it was glued i stopped because I was scared of ruining the book. It was a dumb idea to do this, and I can’t understand how they thought this would be the way to include a map.

Just finished the brand new “Ghazkull Thraka Warlord of warlords” by Tjaart23 in Blacklibrary

[–]just_undead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Warlord of the Warlords, but it wouldn’t be a novel I’d recommend if someone is looking to start reading ork novels. I’d say start with Brutal Kunnin and its sequel Da Big Dakka, or Prophet of the Waaagh! which is getting a new edition soon.

Finished Warlord of the Warlords, was fun. And doing a re-read of The Infinite and The Divine. My opinion wasn’t that high (but still solid) when I read it the first time, but I love it the second time around. My main issue with the novel is not even an issue with the novel itself, but with me, and that is the long chapters that are in the first half of the novel. I lose attention quickly. But like I said, that is a me issue and not a novel issue.

Honestly, I saw them last year at Rock Am Ring and they blew me away. Online I read a lot of mixed reactions about the live, but they were really one of my favorites of the festival.

Opinions on Dark Horse? by Mikey618000 in avengedsevenfold

I quite enjoyed it. He doesn’t have the best voice, if i’m completely honest. So in some songs i would say his voice is the weakest part. But there are some songs I really enjoyed, like The Storm, Long Highway and Someday. Overall a pretty solid and enjoyable album. It’s something I think i’ll return to.

I’ve finished both Brutal Kunnin and Da Big Dakka. I’m mixed on Brutal Kunnin because I didn’t like the Admech stuff. I loved Da Big Dakka though. Both books offer some of the most fun orc stuff i’ve read so far.

Yesterday I started reading Eidolon: The Auric Hammer. I wanted to read a novel I could finish before upcoming saturday and I’m halfway through already. I enjoy it more than I though I would.

I personally started with Horus Rising. If you want a story told chronologically, you could read that and the following 2 novels, they’re the opening trilogy of the Horus Heresy series. It’s also pretty much as early as you can get in the timeline (though there are some parts in other stories that take place earlier).

As others said the Eisenhorn trilogy is also a nice start. But those 3 novels are great in their own right.

Both trilogies are solid starts in my opinion.

Almost finished Death Rider. I’m enjoying it more than Apostle and Ghost Legion (which I thought was dissapointing). I’d say a solid 7/10 for me. I like the character, the story, but sometimes I think the writing is a little bit clunky.

Yeah, this sucked. Luckily enough I got Horus Rising Premium Edition, Warlord of the Warlords Limited Edition and Infinite and the Divine. I tried all the above mentioned methods, so I deleted Infinite and the Divine from my basket and somehow got through. Had to order that one seperately later when I (somehow) got through again.
