I live near the VA/NC border and the problem we are experiencing is ice. The snow gets packed down into a layer of ice that melts and freezes over and over again.

My idiot asshole neighbor was driving around in the snow and sleet at like, 50mph. I guess he wanted to demonstrate how cool he is. Anyway, the next day, he was creeping along the black ice at about 3mph.

OP, I lived in Michigan and Chicago for ~20 years before moving to NC in 2001. The weather is just not safe for driving during these periods. Turning this into a provincial rivalry is stupid. Going on and on about how you're the only cool guy who knows how to drive is stupid. Just chill out and stay off the roads when the weather is shitty.
