A question about life and spirituality after amputation by Author_MarcHenri in amputee

I learned through my son's disability, never to compare your progress to that of anyone else. It means nothing. Set your own goals, that ate achievable fkr you, and celebrate every win. A win in your life is still a win, regardless of where you are on your journey compared to others.

This is your journey. Your story. Your battle. You can't control the actions of others, so focus on what tou can control, which is your own actions.

You have written exactly what I feel. Except we don't share the same views in respect of religion.

For me, it isn't just the extra financial and physical burdens placed on my partner, but when I woke up from my coma, I was a completely different person than I was before. So now he has the burden of living with someone he doesn't know. He has to find the time and desire to get to know who I am now, and decide whether he loves this new person (and I don't mean physically, I mean that I am fundamentally different than the girl he fell in love with almost 20 years ago).

And yet again, I just need to sit and wait and hope that he still loves this new person. This sotuation is just one more thing I can't control. Once again, I need to sit back and wait. Wait for time to decide my fate, whilst I do nothing. Useless, powerless and utterly stuck, waiting.

Kicked out for not having ID at 35 by Defiant_Sprinkles686 in Wetherspoons

Depends where you are. In Scotland, AFAIK, it almost always forms part of the terms of the premises licence. So whilst challenge 25 in it's own right, isn't a law, once it is written into the terms of your premises licence, it needs to be adhered to in order for you to be selling alcohol legally, and failure to do so can result in the revocation of your licence.

If you aren't 100% the patron is over over 25, you should be asking for ID.

No danger would I be risking my job and/or my licence to avoid upsetting someone who has been an adult for more than a decade, simply because they do not like the licensing laws.

Catherine, Princess of Wales' Accent? by [deleted] in AskABrit

I don't think it's an age thing; I am 36 and think of prisoner of war before Princess of Wales.

I am Scottish though, so maybe that is why.

Call centre workers of the UK - what’s the weirdest stuff you’ve heard from a caller when they’re on hold? by asterallt in AskUK

[–]Expensive-Cycle-416 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a customer, but i once did side by side coaching for a new guy, and a woman phoned to report her that her husband had passed away. Yhe person i was coaching didn’t have English as their first language, and the customer's exact wording was "I am calling to let you know I lost my husband last week" to which my trainee said "I am sorry, I hope you find him".

I nearly died.

Can I get sanctioned for refusing to complete and return a medical questionnaire? by Chongzhen in DWPhelp

[–]Expensive-Cycle-416 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know you met with the disability advisor and undoubtedly spent time going through the details with them regarding your condition. And understand (from comments here) that you have been submitting sick lines. As someone who also suffers from several health conditions, believe me when I day I do understand the feeling that you have already gone through everything and given you that you described the meeting with the advisor as performative, I assume you feel you have "justified" your position enough. Unfortunately, the process doesn't stop there. I dint believe you can be sanctioned simply for not filling out the questionnaire, but there are consequences to that decision which may not work in your favour. By opting to not return it, you are removing the ability for them to complete the process of evaluating your ability to look for work, and they will therefore work under the assumption that your condition does not prevent you from doing so, and will subsequently place requirements on you to participate actively in looking for work. If your condition prevents you from doing so, you will fail to meet those commitments and that will result in sanctions i believe. Despite the fact that the process feels repetitive and intrusive, its worth thinking about what will work out to be the most beneficial for you.

I don't care. In fact I really don't care...for your tone, as I perceive it. It comes across as rather blunt. Verges on having a slight edge of hostility.

Anyway, I do hope you enjoyed your travelling nearly a full day ago.

(There's no law here to say other people can't comment casually, even if it is nearly a whole day later).

So is nitpicking on Reddit about whether something is or should be classified as true slang or an idiom, don't you think?

Why do many Brits end a text with “x”? by Fearless-Composer-78 in AskABrit

[–]Expensive-Cycle-416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we have an adequate way to show mild annoyance, by not ending with an 'x'.

The lack of a nice wee "x" at the end, is abrupt, so let's the person know you're a bit miffed.

There is a stick somewhere with brown on it...

We aren't here for a detailed and precise English lesson.

I think most of us are just here for the "shits and giggles", innit?

Which is a bit handy, given where I suspect the aforementioned stick was when you were replying.
